2012 Mercedes A-Class Hatchback Revealed
Several weeks ago at the Shanghai Auto Show, the German automaker Mercedes unveiled its A-Class Concept, previewing the upcoming production version. Now, we have pictures with the car that we will be seeing on the streets next year and to my disappointment I have to say that it looks very boring if we put it side-by-side with the concept.
These images come from the European patent office and we see the 5-door hatchback model, which should be officially launched this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Although it has been shaped after the concept, it looks way less dramatic, even boring some might say. Anyway, it still is far better than the current A-Class as Mercedes has decided to forget about the minivan style and adopt a more traditional hatchback look to rival with the Audi A3 and the BMW 1-Series.
The concept version had an all-new turbocharged, direct-injection 4-cylinder 2.0-liter gasoline engine and we will probably see it in the production model, along with other gasoline engines and updated diesels.
There is going to be a 3-door version, which will hopefully look more aggressive than this 5-door variant, along with at least another body style, probably a mini CLS model, designed for the North American market.
