The bad boy 2013 Audi S8 will be making an appearance this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show and it will be motivated by a recently introduced V8 twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter engine that also motivates the sexy S6 and S7 models.

This impressive 4.0 TFSI power unit, which by the way has the most beautiful engine cover I’ve ever seen, manages to unleash 520 hp and a peak torque of 497 lb.-ft (650 Nm). The entire HP is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox and the automaker’s AWD system. With this configuration, the new S8 hits 62 mph in only 4.2 seconds, which is 0.6 seconds faster than the S6 and 0.7 seconds quicker than the S7.

This power unit benefits from a cylinder deactivation system that is able to cut down one bank, thus becoming a 4-cylidner unit which reduces fuel consumption. Other than that, it comes with direct-injection technology, energy recuperation, as well as stop/start systems. Although the new engine is 70 hp more powerful than the previous V10 5.2-liter unit, it manages to consume 23% less fuel as the car can return 17.8 mpg (13.2 liters / 100 km), which although it isn’t in the Prius terrain, it still is quite impressive for such a big and powerful car.

The German engineers wanted to make the new S8 better as far as handling is concerned so they installed a specially-tuned adaptive air suspension that has variable damping and can vary the ride height of the body between three different levels. In addition, the stopping power is guaranteed by the massive 400 mm ventilated disc brakes for the front wheels and the 365 mm carbon ceramic brakes for the rear wheels.

The car rides on impressive 20-inch alloys that are wrapped around in 265/40 rubbers. The front grille looks different with the new model, while the front apron and lip spoiler have also been restyled. The updated rear bumper now incorporates four tail pipes and a diffuser. Inside the cabin it comes with a sport steering wheel, sport seats and a bunch of other updates that emphasize on the sporty look of the car.
