2013 Mercedes S-Class, New Details Emerge
We have showed you plenty of spy shots with the upcoming 2013 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but now we have more information about the car. We’ve learned from our colleagues at Car Magazine that MB’s luxury flagship will ride on the all-new Mercedes rear-wheel drive architecture (MRA) platform that features a 4-link front suspension and air springs. This platform promises to be very versatile if we take into consideration that the German automaker plans four body styles for the S-Class: a SWB sedan, a LWB sedan, a 4-seat convertible and a coupe.
Tech-wise, the new S-Class will come with the Magic Light Control system – adaptive LED headlights, an improved and updated COMAND system which will benefit from Internet connectivity and will be able to download software updates, along with the Magic Body Control which is a system that has two cameras for scanning the road for imperfections and it can configure the suspension of the car in order to provide a silky smooth ride.
The 2013 Mercedes S-Class will be available with a variety of power units, like the V6 3.5-liter twin turbo that produces 301 hp (306 PS / 225 kW), a V8 4.6-liter twin-turbo that delivers 429 hp (435 PS / 320 kW), along with two engines coming from AMG, the V8 twin-turbo 5.5-liter with 518 hp (525 PS / 386 kW) and the top-spec V12 that unleashes 650 hp (659 PS / 485 kW). Aside from these gasoline engines, the new S-Class will also be available with a couple of diesels, a plug-in hybrid and maybe an all-electric version.
