The German automaker Volkswagen has revealed the other day its intensions of bringing a TDI-powered Beetle to the United States. This version of the car will be makings it public debut next week at the Chicago Auto Show. As you would expect, the Beetle TDI will look just about the same as its gasoline-powered sibling, except for some additional chrome trim, special badging and unique 17-inch alloys.

Inside the cabin there aren’t many modifications, but there will be a supplementary pod that has a stopwatch as well as oil temperature and turbo boost gauges. Some of the optional features which will be available for the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle TDI include GPS navigation, a Fender audio system and a panoramic tilt/slide sunroof.

The car is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine that pumps out 138 hp (140 PS / 103 kW) and a peak torque of 236 lb.-ft (320 Nm). The power unit can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a dual-clutch gearbox, allowing the Beetle TDI to return 29 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway.

We don’t have any details at the moment about the price tag of this 2013 Volkswagen Beetle TDI, but we do know that it will go on sale this summer.
