60 vehicles involved in highway accident in Austria

The heavy snowfall caused a massive accident on a highway in nortwestern Austria. One person, a Spanish woman living in Switzerland, was killed, 30 more were injured (of which 5 are in a very bad condition) and more than 60 cars were damaged.

Police reports that some victims remained trapped in their cars and the rescue efforts were slowed due to the heavy snowfall. The sector of the highway, where the speed limit was 80 mph, was closed by the police, until the road will be cleared.

Whoa, that’s a high speed pile up, 130kmh. Only one person killed seems low, considering the carnage. Guess you could say it was lucky in that respect. Looks like it could have been much worse. Scary.

The speed limit is 130km/h. It doesn’t mean that the traffic was moving that fast in the snow.
