Alonso Wins At Silverstone
Fernando Alonso managed to win his first race of the F1 2011 season, beating both Red Bull drivers in what was the best race of the season. Sebastian Vettel was at the top of the race when a very slow pit stop allowed the Spaniard to grab the first place which he successfully held until the end of the race.
Mark Webber finished in third place although he had good chances of overtaking Vettel but the team told him to “maintain the gap”. In other words, make sure that you don’t try anything stupid, like making Vettel lose precious points. The highest-placed Brit was Lewis Hamilton who successfully secured his fourth place after an interesting battle with Felipe Massa in the last few corners of the GP.
On lap 10 of the race, Michael Schumacher had an altercation with Kamui Kobayashi and had to make a short visit at the pit stop in order to change the nose of his car. Once he got there, he also changed his tires and opted for slick ones and managed to make a couple of consecutive fastest laps. However, he caused an accident and he had to make a stop/go penalty and he lost precious seconds.
Alonso won his first race after 2010’s Korean GP. Let’s see if this win means that we will be seeing a new Ferrari for the remaining GPs or if this was just a slow day for Vettel.
