Audi A1 to “attract new buyers”, serve as gateway to larger models

Audi is quite confident in its upcoming city car, the A1, which it is now promoting just like a drug dealer of some sorts, saying that it will introduce a younger audience, 25-35 years old, to the Audi “drug” and will make them interested in larger models as time passes.

“We’re confident that we’ll be able to delight these customers with the new A1″, said Audis sales and marking boss Peter Schwarzenbauer, “so that they will stay with the Audi brand and will later want to drive our larger models.”

He says that plenty of new technologies, like auto stop start or brake energy regeneration will be implemented in the car, and even “infotainment items… otherwise only found in luxury class models.”

In terms of sales, Audi is planning to get plenty of people “hooked”, expecting to shift over 80,000 units in 2011, the first full year of production. The A1 is set to be revealed next month and be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show. Also expect to see Justin Timberlake around the new car as much as possible.
