Audi A3 e-tron Details Emerge

Audi A3 e-tron

One of Audi’s first EVs will be based on the A3 model and will feature an all-electric motor under the bonnet that sends power from the rear- and mid-mounted battery packs to the wheels in the front. The power output is rated at 130 hp (100 kW) and 199 lb.-ft of torque. The car’s 26.5 kWh lithium-ion batteries will last for about 90 miles, which is rather disappointing.

The Audi A3 e-tron will be able to do the 0-60 mph “sprint” in 11 seconds, before reaching a top speed of only 90 mph. The good news is that thanks to a 400-volt rapid charger, filling up the batteries should be done in a mere 4 hours, and up to 9 if you’ll use a standard household 110-V outlet.

In comparison to the conventional-powered A3, the e-tron version will come with a new gauge cluster, a heated windshield and a low consumption HVAC system.

We don’t know when will Audi launch the model, but the R8 e-tron should hit the dealerships sometime in 2013.
