Audi R8 GT Arrives In The United States
The German automaker Audi has revealed the price list for the limited run R8 GT at the launch of sales in the United States market. The meanest R8 has a base price of $196,800, compared to “only” $114,200 for the entry-level model that packs a V8 4.2-liter engine, and the $149,000 version that has a more powerful V10 5.2-liter.
The interesting thing is that the R8 GT is still considerably cheaper in the US, if we look how much it costs in its homeland Germany – about $269,300. I never understood why some cars are more expensive “at home”. If you have enough money saved, grab one while you still can as they will only make 90 units for the US market.
The 2012 Audi R8 GT is offered with many performance and styling changes over the regular R8 V10 model. The most important modification would have to be with the engine, as the V10 5.2-liter FSI power plant has been upgraded and it now produces 560 hp, that’s 35 hp more than the standard version. Other important changes include the weight saving measures that managed to shave off about 220 pounds (100 kg) over the R8 Coupe 5.2 Quattro. In addition, the model packs specially tuned suspension and ESP systems, a new body kit and carbon ceramic brakes.
The engine will be mated to an R-Tronic sequential manual gearbox, allowing the R8 GT to do the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.6 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 199 mph (320 km/h).
