2013 Lexus GS Goes Official

Some of you have probably been waiting for Lexus to unveil the 2013 GS for months now. It finally happened at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and I must say that it is one of the best looking cars of this year.

The Japanese automaker said that the car was developed in order to be contemporary and spacious, and as we can see from these official photos, it borrows the sporty design that we’ve seen in the LF-Gh concept at the New York Auto Show. It will come with a “spindle” front grille, LED-infused headlights, while at the back it will have a diffuser and a dual exhaust system.

The interior of the 2013 Lexus GS will be very luxurious, featuring seats wrapped around in leather, ambient lightning, a wood trim and an analogue clock. Aside from these, the car will get an 8-inch infotainment display as standard while the cars fitted with the navigation package will benefit from a bigger 12.3-inch display. Aside from this, it will feature an energy-saving climate control system as well as an optional Mark Levinson audio system with 17 speakers.

Lexus will offer three engines for the 2013 GS, but the specifications have not been mentioned yet. What we do know is that the choices will be a 2.5-liter, a bigger 3.5-liter and a greener hybridized 3.5-liter power unit. The car will ride on an updated platform that features a wider track as well as a new multi-link rear suspension.

Audi RS3 Gets 503 HP Via German Tuner B&B

If you thought that the Audi RS3 was powerful enough, think again as the German tuners from B&B have managed to squeeze 503 hp from the 5-cylinder 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. Let’s start slow and talk about the first stage available, which increase the output of the engine from the standard 335 hp (340 PS / 250 kW) and 332 lb.-ft (450 Nm) to 404 hp (410 PS / 302 kW) and 413 lb.-ft (560 Nm).

The Stage 2 power kit brings 419 hp (425 PS / 313 kW) and 428 lb.-ft (580 Nm), followed by 444 hp (450 PS / 331 kW) and 442 lb.-ft (600 Nm). But if you want the big muscles, prepare to pay 15,950 Euro for the Stage 3 kit that increases the power of the engine to a whopping 503 hp (510 PS / 375 kW) and a peak torque of 501 lb.-ft (680 Nm). They can do this by fitting the car with a bigger turbocharger as well as a high-performance stainless steel exhaust system. With the stage 3 kit, the Audi RS is able to do the 0-62 mph sprint in only 3.5 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 193 mph (310 km/h).

Aside from the power upgrades, the German tuner B&B also throws in a lowering suspension kit that brings the car closer to the ground by 20mm and has two modes: Comfort and Sport. Other than that, they can fit your Audi RS3 with a high-performance brake system and you can choose from one of the 19- or 20-inch rims available.

The guys from WorldCarFans have managed to grab this week a few spy shots with the upcoming 2012 Bentley Continental GT Speed which is set to make an official appearance next month during the Frankfurt Motor Show. The photos with the prototype were taken somewhere in the near vicinity of the Nurburgring track (what a surprise, right?) and we can see that it has the same updates as the standard facelift version, but it is distinguished by the bigger 21 inch alloys and larger air intakes on the front bumper.

Under the hood it will feature a massive W12 6.0-liter twin-turbo engine that will fire more than 600 hp (608 PS / 447 kW) and a peak torque of 553 lb.-ft (749 Nm). The engine will be mated to a Quickshift gearbox that will send all of those ponies to the AWD system and we should expect to see a 0-62 mph sprint time of less than 4.5 seconds.

2012 Honda Fit Gets Some Mild Updates

The 2012 Honda Fit Sport was announced the other day and it comes with a bunch of changes, starting with the design where it will come with a new front bumper, an updated grille and a pair of tinted headlights. The car will ride on a new set of 16-inch alloys that have a “machined surface” finish.

As far as the cabin is concerned, it will come with a dark metallic trim, revised cup holders (exciting, right?) and more chrome accents. Aside from these rather insignificant updates, the 2012 Fit Sport will benefit from better seat upholstery, improved sound insulation and Bluetooth connectivity, the latter being an optional feature.

Under the hood there’s going to be only one engine available, a 4-cylinder 1.5-liter power unit that develops 117 hp (119 PS / 87 kW) and a peak torque of 106 lb.-ft (144 Nm). Honda estimates that the car will return 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

It will go on sale very soon and the base price will be of $16,910, which I guess it’s quite decent for one of the best cars in its class. It could have been a lot better if they did something more significant about the design, but I guess it’s a matter of tastes.

Mercedes SLK 250 CDI Announced

At the beginning of this week Mercedes-Benz announced that the SLK 250 CDI will go on sale starting with September 13th in Germany for a base price of 41,828 Euro, including VAT. The car is powered by a 2.2-liter diesel engine that produces 201 hp (204 PS / 150 kW) and reaches a peak torque of 369 lb.-ft (500 Nm).

The Mercedes SLK 250 CDI will be able to do the 0-62 mph sprint in only 6.7 seconds and it needs 4.3 seconds from 50 mph to 75 mph. As far as fuel consumption is concerned, you can compare the sexy roadster with the modest VW Polo as it consumes only 4.9 liters / 100 km with CO2 emissions of only 128 g/km.

First it was only a rumor and now we know for sure that Jaguar is working on the hottest version of the open-top XK model they’ve ever released. Our esteemed colleagues from Carscoop have managed to take a few spy shots with the upcoming XKR-S Convertible and guess where these pictures were taken? That’s right, on the Nurburgring, where else?

As a reminder, back in March at the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show, the British automaker launched the coupe version of the XKR-S so it goes without saying that a convertible will soon be launched. It will come with a new front fascia that has a different nose, along with an updated bumper that will feature winglets on both corners as well as a ventilated bonnet. In the back, expect to see a revised bumper that has a diffuser, a prominent wing and four tailpipes. Also new will be the alloys and the bigger and more aggressive side skirts.

Jaguar XKR-S Convertible

The car will be powered by an updated V8 5.5-liter supercharged engine that will fire 550 hp and 501 lb.-ft (680 Nm) of torque. In addition, the Jaguar XKR-S Convertible will feature a lowered sports suspension along with a new high performance braking system which will be able to stop this beast.

We don’t know when Jag will release the car but probably it will have its official debut next month during the Frankfurt Motor Show.

U.S. Gets 2012 Lexus CT200h With F-Sport Package

The second model year for the Lexus CT 200h will come with a few updates, the most important one being the addition of the F-sport package to the U.S. model. This package was first unveiled last year at the Sydney Motor Show in Australia and after that it made an appearance at the 2010 SEMA. Now, customers will be able to buy it for the 2012MY CT 200h.

The F-Sport package consists of 17-inch alloys, a sportier tuned suspension as well as a front grille which will have a mesh pattern. Inside the cabin, the Lexus CT 200h will get a perforated leather steering wheel, metal front scuff plates, aluminum sport pedals, leather shift knob, along with a metallic trim for the dash panel. Clients will be able to order the car with Black NuLuxe trimmed seats or they can choose perforated black leather-trimmed seats.

The new model year also brings the Vehicle Proximity Notification System which helps alert the pedestrians as well as the cyclists of an oncoming car under specific conditions. It does that by emitting a low audible warning sound.

Aside from these updates, there are no other modifications in comparison to the 2011MY as the car will keep the hybrid powertrain which is made out of a 1.8-liter VVT-I gasoline engine that produces 98 hp and an electric motor that along with the gas engine offers a combined output of 134 hp, which is enough for a 0-62 mph sprint time in 9.8 seconds.

The Japanese automaker didn’t release any photos with the U.S.-spec 2012 Lexus CT 200h with the F-Sport package and the one that we have uploaded for this article is the car exhibited at SEMA 2010.

Frugal Hyundai i20 Blue Announced

The Korean automaker Hyundai has launched this week the frugal version of the i20 model which is called simply “Blue”. The car is already on sale in United Kingdom for a base price of 13,195 pounds. It was developed to be one of the most economical cars in its class and comes with a not so impressive 1.4-liter CRDi engine that produces 89 hp (90 PS / 66 kW) and has a peak torque of 162 lb.-ft (220 Nm). With this power unit, the car sprints to 62 mph from 0 in 13.5 seconds and hits a maximum speed of 108 mph (174 km/h).

But what makes it interesting is its fuel economy rating of 63.6 mpg (76.4 mpg UK or 3.7 liters / 100 km) while CO2 emissions are of only 98 g/km. The engineers from Hyundai managed to achieve this impressive figure by implementing a stop/start system, low rolling resistance tires as well as underbody paneling.

Hennessey Venom GT Heading To Pebble Beach

The officials from Hennessey have announced their plans to stage the United States debut of the incredible Venom GT supercar at this week’s McCall Motorworks Revival, as part of the buildup for the popular Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

As a reminder, but we’re sure that you know this already, the Hennessey Venom GT is as you can see based on the Lotus Exige and it is powered by a V8 6.2-liter twin-turbo engine that fires 1,200 hp (1,217 PS / 895 kW) and an amazing peak torque of 1,155 lb.-ft (1,564 Nm). This powerful engine is mated to a 6-speed Ricardo manual gearbox and it enables the 2,685 lb (1,220 kg) supercar (or should we say hypercar?) to do the 0-62 mph sprint in only 2.5 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 275 mph (443 km/h) which is a lot more than the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

2012 Ford Focus ST Will Be Unveiled This Weekend

We have good news today coming from Ford as they’ve announced that the 2012 Focus ST will make an appearance at the Woodward Dream Cruise which will be organized this weekend. Basically, the new ST is the production variant of the Focus ST concept and it is powered by a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that unleashes about 247 hp (250 PS / 184 kW) and a peak torque of 265 lb.-ft (360 Nm). Other than that, the car will feature a sport-tuned suspension along with some styling changes.

The aforementioned Woodward Dream Cruise is the biggest one-day classic car event in the entire world and for this year’s edition, the officials estimate that about 1.5 million visitors will come and approximately 40,000 classic cars will be exhibited so if you don’t have anything planned for this weekend, this is definitely something worth your time.

BMW Announces Exclusive Editions For X5 And X6 SUVs

The German automaker BMW has announced this week its intentions to launch Exclusive Editions for the X5 and X6 models which will be available starting with this fall. Both of the cars will come with an upgraded interior cabin with seats that are wrapped around in Nevada leather, along with an Anthracite headliner and a dark Bamboo wood trim. In addition, the SUVs will get black floor mats that have oyster-colored edging, along with bespoke sill plates.

In addition, the BMW X5 xDrive30d will benefit from the BluePerformance technology which will make the car Euro 6 compliant. To accomplish this they’ll add a diesel oxidation catalyst, diesel particulate filter and a NOx absorber.

The weird thing about this model is the fact that it will be less fuel efficient than the normal version as it will drink 7.5 liters / 100 km, compared to the standard one that needs 0.1 liters / 100 km less. In addition, CO2 emissions will be up by 3g, reaching 198 g/km, compared to the regular BMW X5 xDrive 30d that has CO2 emissions of 195 g/km.

VW Polo Vs. Toyota Yaris, Which One Should You Buy?

So, time has come to buy a car but you don’t know which one to choose between the Volkswagen Polo and the Toyota Yaris? Well, to be completely honest, it is a tough decision as we consider that both cars are very good and we don’t know which one we would pick if we had to make a decision.

First of all, both cars are safe as they have received 5-star rating from EuroNCAP. However, the Polo comes as standard with ESP whereas for the Yaris you’ll have to pay extra. That rating is applicable for the newest generations of both cars whereas the older ones got three or four stars. Another advantage of the Polo is that you have a lot more choices as far as engines are concerned. Let’s enumerate the power units for both cars.

We start with the VW and the smallest engine available is a 1.2-liter 60 PS that has a combined mpg UK of 51.4 while CO2 emissions are 128 g/km. With this engine, the car reaches 62 mph from start in 16.1 seconds while its top speed is 98 miles. This engine is also available with a 70 PS output that has the same fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, while the 0-62 mph sprint is done 2 seconds faster and top speed is 103 mph.

Moving on, we find the 1.4 85 PS  that returns 47.9 mpg and has CO2 emissions of 139 g/km, while 0-62 mph is done in 11.9 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 110 mph. These figures are for the model fitted with the manual gearbox whereas the automatic one has a fuel economy of 48.7 mpg in the combined cycle, 135 CO2 g/km emissions while the top speed and 0-62 time are identical.

You can also get the Polo with a 1.2 liter with 105 PS that returns 53.3 mpg, with CO2 emissions of 124 g/km and a 0-62 mph time in 9.7 seconds. Fitted with this engine, the top speed is 118 mph. The most powerful engine available for the Volkswagen Polo would have to be the 1.4 180 PS (Auto) that generates 180 PS and has a combined mpg of 47.9 and 139 g/km CO2 emissions. Naturally, it is the fastest model in the lineup, reaching 62 mph in only 6.9 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 142 mph.

If you prefer diesel, the German automaker has to offer a 1.2 TDI with 75 PS and a more powerful 1.6 TDI with 90 PS. With the first one you get a fuel consumption of 80.7 mpg and CO2 emissions of only 91 g/km, which makes it the most eco-friendly engine in the lineup. 0-62 mph is done in 13.9 seconds while top speed is 107 mph. The other one, returns 65.7 mpg while CO2 emissions are 112 g/km. This one is a little bit faster as it is capable of hitting 62 mph in 11.5 seconds, on its way to a maximum speed of 112 mph.

Now that we’ve got that covered, let’s move on to the Yaris to see what the Japanese are offering. Well, as we said in the beginning, you get fewer engines than the Polo. The smallest of them all is the tiny 1.0-liter that manages to return 55.4 mpg while CO2 emissions are 118 g/km. The car can do the 0-62 mph sprint in 15.7 seconds while top speed is 96 mph. A bigger engine would have to be the

3 that has a combined mpg UK figure of 54.3, CO2 emissions of 120 mpg and it sprints to 62 mph in 11.7 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 109 mph. You can also get it with the 1.4 D-4D engine, which is the most eco-friendly engine in the lineup as it returns 67.3 mpg UK and has CO2 emissions of only 110 g/km. 0-62 mph time is 10.7 seconds while top speed is 109 mph.

Regarding the interior cabin, both models offer roughly the same amount of space while the quality of the materials seems to be a little bit better in the Yaris. Speaking of the Toyota, don’t forget that the older models have the dashboard mounted in the center (the new one has the traditional configuration). Personally, I’m not a fan of the dashboard’s style but this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t choose the Yaris.

As far as the price tags are concerned, the VW Polo costs from 9995 pounds to 19415 pounds for the top-spec model whereas the Yaris has a base price of 10730 pounds and the most expensive one starts from 15285 pounds. If you’re going to buy a used one, keep in mind that parts for the Polo are in most cases more expensive than the one for the Yaris

Regarding reliability, the Yaris would have to take the 1st place here but don’t think that the Polo isn’t any good, on the contrary, it has proven its reliability over the years but it can’t compete with a car “Made in Japan”.

We’re not going to talk about the design because our opinion isn’t relevant. We are just stating the facts about these cars. However, if you do ask us, we’ll be more than happy to provide an answer.

If you’re interested in buying a used one, you should know that you’ll find thousands of cars, from all generations, except for the new generation of the Yaris which was recently launched so you probably won’t find it yet as a used car. Both of them are good city cars and you won’t have any problems finding a parking space. These are also perfect for 1st time drivers.

2008 VW Polo 1.4

In the end, let’s offer a real comparison of one Polo and one Yaris that are on sale today. On gumtree.com you can find a 2008 VW Polo that has a 1.4 engine and the seller is asking 4,500 pounds. It is the 5-door hatchback variant with the gasoline engine and a manual gearbox. He drove it for only 22,000 miles.

 

On the other side, we find a Toyota Yaris 1.3 Auto from the same year with 29,620 miles and the current owner wants to sell it for 5,750 pounds. This is a 5-door blue Yaris that comes with AC and the seller mentions in the ad that he will provide the car’s service book.

As you can see, the cars are from the same year with roughly the same engine capacity. In my opinion, the guy with the Yaris is asking too much for the car and if I were to pick from these two I’d take the Polo because it’s a lot cheaper and it has fewer miles on the odometer.

Of course, this would have to be a simple comparison that we can make, but in the end, the decision is up to you. Don’t forget that you’re not limited to these two models as there are plenty of alternatives, here are just a few of them: Citroen C1, Skoda Fabia, Honda Jazz and the Renault Clio.

If you were hoping for an easy answer, there isn’t one as you’ll have to take into consideration a lot of factors. Taking into consideration that you are going to choose from two great cars, you really can’t go wrong on this one.

New Details About Next BMW 3-Series (F30) Emerge

The 6th generation of the BMW 3-Series will make its official debut at the beginning of next year during the Detroit Motor Show and it seems that the car, dubbed F30, is now during its final phase of a 3-year durability testing program. More and more prototypes have been seen around the company’s Munich HQ as well as the Nurburgring.

The sedan version is the first one that will be launched, followed later on by five other variants: Touring, GT, coupe, cabrio and a GranCoupe. The last three models will ditch the 3-Series designation and will wear the new 4-Series nameplate. The sedan is set to go on sale in the United Kingdom in March at a starting price which will be 4% higher in comparison to today’s price tag.

Design-wise, the car as we said a few days ago will look a lot more like the 5-Series, which is a smart approach BMW is taking with its two best selling models. The car will have a more wedge-shaped profile while the kidney grille will evoke the shark nose appearance of the original E21 3-Series from 1975. Other updates worth mentioning include a heavily angled window, a high bootline and defined front wheel arches, as well as more prominent lines running down the flanks.

The wheelbase of the next BMW 3-Series is going to be 50mm longer while the tracks have been increased by approximately 20 mm in the front and 15 mm out in the back. The target of BMW’s engineers is to increase the interior cabin space so that it could match its main competitors, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Audi A4.

The new 3-Series will ditch the regular MacPherson strut suspension in the front in favor of a space-saving double wishbone design which promises to provide a shorter front overhang, a slight reduction in the turning circle in comparison to the current model, along with an improved wheel control. The back will still feature the multi-link suspension. However, it will benefit from a bigger number of aluminum components and will feature variable damper control.

Another update that we have to mention is the inclusion of an electro-mechanical steering that will come with an ActiveSteering option in order to provide the necessary variable assistance based on the speed of the car. A novelty of the model will be the two different wheelbases. The sedan, touring, coupe and cabrio models will ride on the SWB version while the GT and the GranCoupe will use the LWB version that will be 75mm longer in comparison to the wheelbase of the current 3-Series. China will also get a LWB version of the sedan.

The car will be available with a choice of 11 engines; five of them will be turbocharged gasoline units while the other six will be turbodiesels that will have piezo injectors. Keep in mind that the car won’t be available at first with all of these power units. The now legendary 3.0-liter naturally-aspirated 6-cylinder gasoline engine will be retired in favor of an all-new 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo unit that powers the X1 xDrive28i. The entry-level gasoline engine will be the 4-cylinder 1.6-liter turbocharged unit with 150 hp.

A trio consisting of turbocharged 2.0-liter engines will be available, with outputs of 180 hp for the 320i model, 210 hp for the 325i and 245 hp for the 328i. The top-spec 335i will get a 6-cylinder 3.0-liter turbo engine with 306 hp.

As far as the diesels are concerned, the new BMW 3-Series will be available with a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine that will be available in the following output configurations: 122 hp for the 316d model, 143 hp for the 318d and 184 hp for the 320d. These will be joined by three 6-cylinder 3.0-liter engines with 204 hp for the 325d, 245 hp for the 330d and 286 hp for the 335d. All of these engines will be mated as standard to a 6-speed manual transmission and clients will be able to choose an optional 8-speed automatic gearbox developed by ZF.

Also in the pipeline are at least three other models that will benefit from an optional 4WD configuration. We are talking about the 328iX, 320dX and the 330iX models and rumors say that if the demand will exist, BMW will roll out other similar ones. The German automaker is also working on a frugal variant of the 3-Series in the form of a 320d EfficientDynamics version that will manage to return about 75 mpg UK on the combined cycle.

After the launch of the Touring variant, BMW will most likely prepare an ActiveHybrid version that will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that will work in tandem with an electric motor which will be mounted within the housing of the automatic gearbox.

Some of the technology available on the upcoming BMW 3-Series include night vision, lane change warning, forward collision warning, the company’s four-color version of the head-up display that features traffic sign recognition, along with surround view parking system that has side-mounted cameras plus driving dynamic control to modify the mapping of the power unit, suspension and gearbox.

Skoda Octavia vRS Hits 202 mph At Bonneville

Skoda took a heavily modified Octavia vRS to the Bonneville Salt Flats and managed to reach a top speed of 202.15 mph (325.33 km/h). The engineers from the company’s team in United Kingdom along with REVO Technik fitted the car with the 2.0-liter TSI engine from the VW Group and they’ve tweaked it in order to output 500 hp (507 PS / 373 kW).

However, in one of their previous announcements, Skoda said that this engine will fire between 542-592 hp (550-600 PS / 405-441 kW) and a peak torque of 332 lb.-ft (450 Nm) while using high-octane fuel as well as 26-28 PSI of boost.

The guy behind the wheel was journalist Richard Meaden and he hit that speed during the Bonneville Speed Week.

Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid Gets 128 mpg UK Range

Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid

Set to be unveiled next month during the Frankfurt Motor Show, Toyota announced today that the Prius Plug-in Hybrid will have a fuel efficiency of 128.4 mpg UK while CO2 emissions stand at 49 g/km. The car will benefit from the company’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system which combines an electric motor for limited distances and low speeds with a small gasoline power unit that provides extra range and flexibility.

The model will become the flagship in the Prius lineup and it will join other efficient cars from Toyota, like the new Yaris hybrid, the 7-seat Prius+ as well as the Auris hybrid. The car is set to go on sale in fall 2012 and the base price will be of approximately 30,000 pounds. In United Kingdom, the car will qualify for the incentive payment of 5000 pounds for plug-in EVs, which means that on-the-road price tag will be of around 25,000 pounds.
