As most of you already know, the China-based Geely company is the owner of the Volvo brand, and they have big plans for the car manufacturer for the years to come. They want to reach 800,000 global sales annually by 2020 (or sooner). In order to make this happen, Volvo must increase the capacity of its factories and hire new employees.

This year’s edition of the Seoul Motor Show is turning out to be quite interesting. Another concept revealed this week is this Kia Naimo EV. I must say that they couldn’t have picked a better name for the car – Naimo (is Korean for “square”). This B-segment concept looks really cool as it has no B-pillars, and the rear doors have a funky clamshell-style opening style. The Naimo rolls on big 20-inch rims, wrapped around in low-rolling-resistance tires.

Seoul Motor Show – Chevrolet Mi-ray Concept
At this week’s Seoul Motor Show, GM unveiled the Chevrolet Mi-ray Concept. This attractive car pays tribute to Chevrolet’s sports car heritage and GM said that the concept is “small and open” just like the 1963 Monza SS, while at the same time being “light and purposeful” like the 1962 Corvair Super Spyder. Regardless of its resemblances to classic cars, the Mi-ray (Korean for “future”) looks awesome from every single angle you look at it.

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Delayed > Kia Optima Hybrid Delayed
The hybrid version of the Hyundai Sonata was supposed to hit the dealerships in the last month of 2010, but the automaker postponed its launch in order to do some engineering change to boost safety. When the car manufacturer found that that Obama planned to sign a bill that would ban a switch meant to disable a noisemaker that was created for warning blind pedestrians, Hyundai decided to remove this switch. This move delayed the car’s launch from December to late this month.

Hyundai Blue2 Unveiled
Here is something more special coming from an automaker that in the past usually rolled out pretty boring cars. Hyundai revealed this week at the Seoul Motor Show the Blue2 concept, which is a very attractive fuel-cell concept car, with which the automaker hopes will help it gain “early leadership of the FCEV” market. What should we understand from this? That a production version based on this concept is in the works? We’ll have to wait and see.

It’s nice to hear that the automotive industry is recuperating after the damages caused by the tsunami and the several earthquakes that hit Japan several weeks ago. Honda has announced that they will resume their production at their Japanese plants starting with April 11th. Despite the fact that full capacity at its plants is possible, they are going to keep the production levels at 50% due to shortage of parts supply.

2008 Dodge Viper ACR
You probably know by now that there is a continuous battle between almost all supercar makers to grab the title for the fastest car on the legendary Nurburgring track. Over the last few years there have been many claims to a lap record for a street-legal production model.
However, while some of these cars are considered street-legal anywhere in the world, others cars like the Ferrari 599XX, Ultima GTR, Gumpert Apollo and the Pagani Zonda R are not considered entirely legal in some parts of the world, which means that they are not eligible to go in the standings.

Last weekend at the inaugural Global RallyCross Championship, Marcus Gronholm managed to win both races, but people talked more about Kenney’s accident rather than Gronholm’s success. Kenney was behind Hyundai driver Marcus Dodd and he wanted to win back the lost ground. However, his 70-foot jump didn’t turn out to be as he hoped and the result you can see for yourselves.
