Up until now there were only rumors and speculations regarding a possible model that will be slotted below the Boxster. This week, Matthias Mueller who is Porsche’s boss has confirmed that there is going to be a new entry-level model, a “modern-day” version of the 550 Spyder. This new model is going to be based on a brand new mid-engined aluminum and steel platform that is being developed by Audi who will most likely use it for its upcoming R4 roadster.

The car will have a base price of around 35,000 pounds and will become the company’s most affordable model while the Boxster will grow in size and it will also be more expensive when the next generation arrives. The new entry-level model is going to be powered by a 4-cylinder boxer engine, the same that that will be used for the Boxster, the sexy Cayman and probably the 911. According to various sources, this power unit is sized at 2.5-liters and in the turbocharged form it churns about 360 hp.
