In a recent press release, BMW announced that the BMW 1 Series Cabrio will be introduced next spring, about the same time as the BMW 1 Series Coupe. When sales will debut in the United States, there will only by 128i versions available, with 135i versions coming later next year.
The 128i will be powered by BMW’s 3.0 liter, 230 horsepower inline six-cylinder engine, featruing Valvetronic valvetrain management and aluminum/magnesium cylinder block construction. The 135i Convertible is powered by BMW’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine developing 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. The 135i sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).
Probably to save costs and make the car lighter, BMW has fitted the 1 Series Convertible with a cloth roof instead of a folding hard top, like most producers do now. View more photos and a video after the jump.
