The second generation of the BMW 1-Series will arrive at the dealers in UK next month, on September 17th. The redesigned 5-door hatchback is going to be offered at first with a choice of two gasoline engines and three diesels and the most affordable model will set you back 19,375 pounds for the 116i ES, up to 24,720 pounds for the 120d Sport or the 120d Urban.
This new iteration of the 1-Series is 83 mm longer, 14 mm wider and its wheelbase is now 30 mm longer and the German automaker says that the car provides greater comfort inside the cabin. Moreover, the luggage space dimensions have increased by 30 liters, for a total capacity of 360 liters and if you lower the rear seats you’ll get 1,200 liters.
All of the aforementioned engines are going to be turbocharged. The gasoline ones are the 1.6-liter with 136 hp, available in the 116imodel which should be enough for a 0-62 mph sprint time of 8.5 seconds and a fuel consumption of 49.6 mpg UK, along with a more powerful 1.6-liter unit that churns 170 hp, for the 118i model that enables the car to reach 62 mph from start in 7.4 seconds and have a fuel consumption level of 47.9 mpg UK.
If you prefer diesels, the 2.0-liter turbodiesel will be offered in three configurations: with 116 hp for the 116d model, 143 hp for the 118d and the top-spec 120d model with 184 hp.
All of the models are going to get a RWD configuration and clients will be able to choose from a 6-speed manual gearbox or an all-new 8-speed automatic transmission.
BMW’s UK branch estimates that they will sell 20,000 units of the new 1-Series in the car’s first full year of sale.
