BMW 7-Series ActiveHybrid Concept to make Paris debut

Looks like the luxury hybrids will be a very interesting market to watch. After last week Mercedes announced the S400 BlueHybrid, today BMW announced that the Paris Motor Show will mark the debut of the BMW 7-Series ActiveHybrid Concept. The car is powered by a combination of an eight-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor developing 15 kW/20 hp and maximum torque of 210 Newton-metres/155 lb-ft as a mild hybrid concept. Electric power is generated by a particularly powerful variant of Brake Energy Regeneration already featured in BMW’s regular production cars. This allows the hybrid 7 Series to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 15 percent. Of course, the concept gets all the luxurious features from its regular gasoline powered brother. After the Paris debut, BMW hopes to get the car into production starting with 2009.
