BMW says future Mini models will be made in Germany

With many people getting tired of big heavy cars, a lot of them are turning their heads to smaller, city cars, which can also deliver a bit of an adrenaline rush when needed. For quite some time, BMW’s Mini brand has represented one of the best answers to such a search.

But with the German automaker planning to begin production on the recently unveiled Mini Coupe and Mini Roadster concepts, which were presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show, it seems that they will not be built in the traditional Oxford plant in the UK. With a weak pound sterling and troublesome manufacturing costs, its seems that BMW wants to build the new models exclusively at its Regensburg plant, which currently handles the production of the 1 Series and 3 Series models.

It is believed that the plant will be upgraded by the German automaker and both it and the Oxford one will be working at full capacity in order to anticipate the big number of orders that the Mini is experiencing these days. Would you like your Mini to be built in Germany or does the UK-made charm brings a smile to your face? Leave us a comment with your thoughts.

I wonder if Oxford will be running at the old ‘capacity’ or the more recent ‘capacity’ – http://www.aronline.co.uk/wordpress/2009/02/16/news-report-bmw-sheds-850-jobs-at-mini/

I have had no problems with the two I bought that were produced in GB. what I’d like is a European delivery program in either France or Germany.
