BMW set to launch 135is instead of M1
BMW’s 1 Series recently received a lot of attention, thanks to the many rumors confirming a high performance version of the entry-level lineup, which might get the prestigious M1 badge, when it will appear.
But even though we received dozens of presumed specifications for the performance model, BMW declined to comment on any of them. A new report, coming from InsideLine, reveals that the performance 1 Series won’t bear that badge, and won’t be so hardcore, as to not steal customers from the bigger M3.
Instead, this new car, presumably set to receive the 135is name, like the recent 335is and the Z4 sDrive35is, will sport an upgraded version of the N54 twin-turbo inline-six unit. Power figures are also expected to be somewhere along the lines of 320 HP and 332 lb-ft, with an overboost function taking torque ratings to 370 lb-ft.
With all of the conflicting rumors, we can’t really say for sure what will happen. But what’s clear is that a more powerful 1 Series, whether it is the M1 or 135is, will appear. Until then, more rumors will certainly follow.
