BMW to release xDrive40d variants for X5 and X6 in Geneva
BMW has just announced that it will be taking the 3.0-liter diesel engine from the 740d and transplant it into the bodies of the X5 and X6 SUVs. The result of the new pairing? The X5 xDrive40d and the X6 xDrive40d.
The engine will deliver 300 HP and 442 lb-ft of torque, and will be mated to a new ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. The goal of the diesel engine in the X5 and X6 is to offer a more fuel efficient version with lower CO2 emissions.
While these new versions will be shown during the Geneva Motor Show for the European market, if demand is big enough, they might even arrive in the US, where the only diesel variant is the 265 HP X5 xDrive35d.
