You can easily recognize the Mercedes Benz SL-Class in traffic because of its distinctive elegance and performance. The older models of Mercedes Benz SL manufactured between 1972 and 1989 are much simpler regarding both the trim level and the exterior design. The next generation of Mercedes Benz SL was produced between 1990 and 2002 and is available in different engine versions including the V6, V8 and V12 engine version. The V6 engine version was able to produce between 228 horsepower and 389 horsepower and it could be equipped with a five-speed manual or automatic transmission. The V8 and V12 versions were available with a four-speed automatic transmission. The standard features that equip this generation of Mercedes Benz include dual-zone climate control, stability control, HID headlights, integrated cell phone, adaptive suspension, CD changer, stability control and all the modern gadgets available at that time on the market. This generation offers high performance, luxury, comfort and decent handling.

The Mercedes Benz SL-Class generation, manufactured between 2003 and 2009, consists of the SL500 equipped with a 5.0 liter V8 engine able to produce 302 horsepower and the later on released supercharged SL55 able to deliver around 493 horsepower. In 2004, Mercedes Benz launched the SL600 which was equipped with a V12 engine able to deliver 493 horsepower and, for the SL500, they designed a new, seven-speed automatic transmission. In 2007, the SL 550 replaced the SL500. All these vehicles had a less aggressive look than the current version. In 2009, Mercedes Benz released the SL63 which was meant to replace the SL55 and along with the hyper SL65 AMG black series impress the customers with even more elegance and luxury. The SL63 is equipped with a 6.2 liter V8 engine able to produce 518 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft of torque while the SL65 is powered by a V12 engine which delivers 604 horsepower and goes from zero to 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds. The SL63 features cruise control, leather and a wood center console trim, ventilated front seats, a power activated trunk, a sport steering wheel, the COMAND electronics interface, antilock brakes, side head/thorax airbags and the TeleAid emergency telematics.

You will have to pay between $7,413 for a 1994 used Mercedes Benz SL and $71,033 for a 2009 model.
