What crisis? Italian ministry orders 19 Maserati Quattroporte limos

Maserati Quattroporte

You certainly have heard about the problems that Greece has been experiencing in the last few months and it appears that these issues will occur in other European countries as well. According to a lot of analysts, it seems that after Greece, the next in line will be Italy and Spain.

Despite of all these issues and warnings, the Italian Ministry of Defense has recently put an order on 19 fully-loaded Maserati Quattroporte limousines so that the government officials can travel in style. Needless to say, this has caused a huge outrage in the country because the ministry’s plans are to cut the expenses in the next three years by a whopping 2.5 billion Euros ($3.5 billion) and obviously this isn’t the way to do it.

Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale by Novitec Tridente

The engineers from Novitec Tridente have developed a new tuning program for the very hot Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale. Design-wise, the coupe now comes with a ventilated bonnet, a sport exhaust system, a reduced ride height and it rides on 21- / 22-inch alloys that are wrapped around in Pirelli P Zero tires.

The most interesting modifications have been brought under that new hood where the V8 4.7-liter now has a supercharger, bigger fuel injectors, a new intake manifold and an updated engine mapping. Thanks to the implementation of these updates, the power unit now produces 637 hp (646 PS / 475 kW) and a peak torque of 460 lb.-ft (624 Nm). This is enough for a 0-62 mph sprint time in only 3.9 seconds, a 0-200 km/h in 11.4 seconds, and a maximum speed of 190 mph (306 km/h).

The price for all these goodies is $31,820 (23,900 Euros) and Novitec Tridente says that the interior of the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale can be “crafted to [the] utmost perfection.”

Frankfurt Motor Show – Maserati Kubang

Maserati Kubang Concept

The Frankfurt Motor Show may be ending in a few days but we still didn’t have enough time to show you all of the cars that were revealed at this year’s edition. One of the models we haven’t talked about so far is the Maserati Kubang concept. It is the company’s response to the success of the ugly Porsche Cayenne.

Maserati Kubang Concept

I never thought that the day would come when Maserati will exhibit an SUV but I guess money is a priority for all people, especially car companies. Anyway, I have to admit that it looks quite nice although I’m not a big fan of SUVs. The Italian automaker described the concept as being “the first tangible look at Maserati’s future”. It has the same name as a concept that was shown at the Detroit Motor Show back in 2003.

When the production version will be out, the Kubang will be motivated by a new generation of power units that will be developed at Modena and produced in Maranello by Ferrari. These engines will be mated to a new 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic Gets Sport Pack

Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic Sport Pack

The Italian carmaker Maserati announced a few days ago that they will offer a Sport Pack for the sexy GranTurismo S Automatic model that promises to improve the overall performances of the vehicle without having to compromise the convenience of its transmission. This new Sport Pack consists of a very fast MC Auto Shift software that reduces the shift time of the gearbox, along with a revised exhaust system that manages to keep the bypass valves fully open when the vehicle is in sport mode.

Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic Sport Pack

Aside from these goodies, the car also comes with a black grille, body-colored side skirts and front winglets, smoked headlights, black mesh front side grilles, oval exhaust pipes and an integrated rear boot lid spoiler. Maserati also throws in dual-cast disc brakes and a set of Grigio Mercury Neptun alloys.

Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic Sport Pack

As a reminder, the Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic comes with a powerful V8 4.7-liter engine that develops 440 hp (323 kW) @ 7000 rpm and reaches a peak torque of 490 Nm at 4750 rpm, which is enough for a sprint time from 0 to 62 mph in only 5 seconds while the top speed is rated at 183 mph.

In UK, the price for the model fitted with the Sport Pack starts from 92,480 pounds and if we have a look at the price tag of the standard model, we realize that this additional package costs 3,840 pounds.

It wouldn’t be a proper tuning program if it didn’t include some changes under the bonnet where the V8 4.7-liter engine of the GranTurismo S has been modified in order to output 485 hp (492 PS / 362 kW), up from the standard 434 hp (440 PS / 324 kW). Maserati Plans Expansion Of Its Lineup

2009 Maserati Quattroporte S

This news shouldn’t come as a surprise to most of us as we all know that just about every manufacturer in the world is working on new models to satisfy the thirst of the customers, especially if we look at the Chinese market. Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has decided that Maserati needs some new toys in its lineup and in the next couple of years we should see two new 4-door premium models: a new version of the Quattroporte and a 5-Series-sized derivative.

Pininfarina will design both models along with Fiat Auto Centro Stile. We should expect to see brand new engines, like a MultiAir turbocharged version of the V6 Pentastar, delivering 400 hp, along with a V6 turbodiesel that produces 300 hp courtesy of the latest generation of Fiat’s JTD II high-pressure diesel injection and management. We don’t know if the latter will be heading to the United States.

Most likely, both these new sedans will benefit from the all-wheel drive system of the Ferrari FF and will also feature an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission that promises great fuel efficiency.

The new version of the Quattroporte should arrive towards the end of next year while the other sedan will debut in 2013. One year later, we should see an SUV from Maserati, based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

All these additions are going to be made in order to grab as many customers as possible from the expanding Chinese market so we should give them a big thanks!

Maserati GT Garbin Envisions 2020 Gran Turismo Model

Maserati GT Garbin Concept

Designed by Jaime Cervantes, Andrea Coccia and Chetan Rajput, this Maserati GT Garbin is a design study that envisions a 2020 Gran Turismo model. It was the project thesis for these designers that graduated from the Politecnico di Milano and it was developed during the Master in Transportation and Automobile Design and was sponsored by the Fiat Group.

Maserati GT Garbin Concept

The designers got their inspiration from the 1967-1973 Maserati Ghibli, despite the fact that they didn’t want to create a retro design. It was named after a south-westerly Italian summer wind, also known as the “Garbino” or “Libeccio”.

Maserati GT Garbin Concept

In the front we notice the traditional Maserati grille, mixed up with a couple of design cues borrowed from the fascinating Citroen GT Concept. It features generous doors that slide forwards and luminescent materials along with backlighting areas that give a special look to the general design of the concept. They used the same recipe for the interior cabin, which is dominated by the areas that connect the Garbin’s door panels to the dashboard.

Maserati GranTurismo MC, Heading To The U.S.

Maserati GranTurismo MC

The U.S.-spec version of Maserati’s gorgeous GranTurismo MC Stradale model has been announced by the Italian manufacturer. Wearing the “GranTurismo MC” designation, probably the most important change over the European version is the addition of two full-sized rear seats, along with a fully automatic gearbox.

Maserati GranTurismo MC

The car is powered by the same engine as the Stradale, which is a V8 4.7-liter that produces 444 hp (450 PS / 330 kW) and a peak torque of 376 lb.-ft (510 Nm). However, the car’s performances are not the same due to the added weight. In other words, the North American version has a sprint time to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds slower than its European sibling. Top speed is also down, from 300 km/h to 298 km/h.

Novitec & Maserati GranCabrio Combine Beauty With Performance

Novitec Maserati GranCabrio

One of the most beautiful cars ever launched by the Italian automaker Maserati is without any doubt the GranCabrio. The standard drop-top variant of the GT packs a V8 4.7-liter engine that produces 440 hp @ 7,000 rpm and 362 lb.-ft (490 Nm) of torque @ 4,750 rpm.

Novitec Maserati GranCabrio

The engineers over at Novitec felt that there is still room for improvement and they’ve installed a brand new supercharger, a water-cooled intercooler, along with a remapped ECU. The result? 590 hp @ 7,300 rpm and 421 lb.-ft (572 Nm), enough for a 0-60 mph sprint time in only 4.5 seconds.

Maserati Working On Lineup Expansion

Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S Awards Edition

The Italian automaker Maserati is working on expanding its lineup of models and according to various sources, it will launch three new models in the next three years. The first one that will arrive is the successor of the beautiful Quattroporte, which we will probably see at this year’s edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Basically, it will be a GranTurismo sedan and will come with a V8 4.7-liter engine that will develop around 400 hp, or a little bit more. According to Inside Line, the model will move up the market, but previous reports said exactly the opposite, stating that the successor of the Quattroporte will move down the market in order to compete with the Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-Series and the Audi A8.

In 2013, Maserati will launch a crossover based on the Dodge Durango and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. We can’t tell you much about it, but most likely it will have a bespoke interior and unique styling. In addition, we can tell you that it will get Ferrari-sourced engines; at least that is what Fiat’s CEO said.

In 2015, the car manufacturer will launch an entry-level sedan that will cost about $78,000. This baby Quattroporte will benefit from a V8 engine and will tackle the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and the Mercedes E-Class. They will also launch a high performance version of this model, which will cost about $96,000, a car that will rival the BMW M5, Mercedes E63 AMG and the Audi S6/RS6.
