Our esteemed colleagues from Autocar.co.uk have managed to take a couple of spy shots with the upcoming new generation of the sexy Porsche Cayman, the only car I’d buy from the German company if I had to. The prototype you see in these pictures was undergoing some heavy testing at the Nurburgring track.

It is expected to be powered by updated versions of the 6-cylinder 2.9- and 3.4-liter engines, which will deliver about 280 hp in the 2.9-liter unit and 330 hp for the bigger 3.4-liter power plant. Aside from these updates, the new Cayman will also get an electro-mechanical steering system as well as a stop/start system to reduce the CO2 emissions and increase fuel efficiency. Later on, Porsche will offer the Cayman with an all-new 4-cyilinder 2.0-liter engine, the one which will go into the 2014 sub-Boxster roadster.

Next-gen Porsche Cayman

The new Cayman will be officially launched together with the third generation of the Boxster. Porsche says that all the panels in both the Cayman and Boxster will be entirely new and the fabric roof for the latter will also be new. Needless to say, these panels are going to be lighter in order to reduce the curb weight of the cars. Both models will get a longer wheelbase, measuring almost 4.4 meters which translates into more luggage and passenger space.

The current generations of the Boxster and the Cayman are manufactured in partnership with Velvet Automotive, located in Finland while the new ones are going to be built home at Stuttgart as this partnership will end soon.

Porsche 550 Revival In The Works

It seems that the German automaker Porsche is working on a car that will revive the iconic 550 model from the 50s. This baby Porsche is going to feature an entirely new engine in the form of a 4-cylinder 1.6-liter “boxer” unit. This engine is going to be turbocharged and is expected to generate about 200 hp. The power will be sent to the rear wheels via a manual transmission, although the company will most likely offer an optional PDK twin-clutch unit.

Scheduled for a 2014 entry, the car will become the entry-level Porsche model and is expected to have a curb weight of approximately 1,200 kg. The two-seater will be able to do the 0-62 mph sprint in about 6 seconds, on its way to a top speed of approximately 145 mph. Unlike other Porsche models, this one promises to be a little more efficient, returning 40 mpg UK and emitting less than 160 g / km of CO2 thanks to the inclusion of the start/stop technology.

This mid-engined platform is also going to be used for a production version of the Volkswagen Bluesport, a concept that we saw back in 2009 at the Detroit Motor Show. In addition, it will be used for a new Audi roadster, probably the R4, which will be slotted below the current TT. With the introduction of the R4, the Audi TT will be more expensive. This strategy will also be applied at Porsche when the 550 will be introduced as it will have a base price of 35,000 pounds, while the Boxster will surpass the 40,000 pounds mark.

Until 2014 when the 550 will be out, the German automaker is going to launch three new cars. The first one is the new generation of the 911 which will get its official debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show which will be organized in September. The new 911 will be followed next year by the new generations of the Boxster and the sexy Cayman.

Porsche Triumphs At 24-hour Nurburgring Race

The Porsche Team Manthey has managed its fifth victory in the last six years at the 24-hour Nurburgring race. The guys behind the wheel of the 911 GT3 RSR were Marc Lieb from Germany, Timo Bernhard form Germany, Romain Dumas from France and Lucas Luhr from Switzerland. They managed to drive the car for 156 laps or 2,460 miles (3,958 km).

The Porsche 911 GT3 RSR took the lead of the race while there were only 35 minutes left of the race and successfully hold on to the first position until the end. In second place came last year’s winner – BMW Motorsports M3 GT2 and rounding up the top 3 was the Audi R8 LMS.

Switzer Tunes The Porsche Panamera

Yet another tuning program has been revealed for the Porsche Panamera, this time coming from Switzer Performance who managed to increase the output of the engine to 680 hp, hence the P680 designation for the upgrade program. They took the model fitted with the V8, direct-injected, twin-turbo engine and increased the peak torque by a whopping 200 lb.-ft.

To obtain the extra oomph, they’ve installed brand new turbos that have custom billet compressor wheels that feature an advanced aero profile. They tuning company said that this configuration can work with the car’s stock catalytic converters as well as the standard exhaust system. In addition, they’ve fitted the Panamera with a custom intercooler that has a new heat sink and an increased capacity, along with a Siemens ECU tuning.

This Porsche Panamera P680 is able to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds while 60 to 130 mph is done in a mere 8 seconds. The top speed should be around the 215 mph (350 km/h) mark.

The German tuners over at Magnat have revealed a couple of days ago their upgrade program for the Porsche 911 GT3, which features visual and performance upgrades. They’ve fitted the car with a brand new exhaust system that has sports catalysts and they’ve remapped the ECU.

Thanks to these modifications, the engine of the 911 GT3 develops 462 hp and has a peak torque of 451 Nm, which should be enough for a top speed of 197 mph (317 km/h).

The car now rides on 19-inch OZ Ultraleggera HLT CT rims that are wrapped around in Yokohama Advan Sport. Inside the cabin, Magnat installed a powerful 2,100 watts sound system that comes with new speakers which sport anodized PP membranes, 1-inch textile tweeters and high-performance voice coils. In addition, it also features a Black Core 5 channel amplifier and a 10-inch subwoofer that has a down-fire casing.

Cars team up again with femininity – 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 by Autodynamica Performance

I don’t know how this is possible, but apparently women cannot stay away from super-cool cars, and either cars from women. It’s like a silent long-term partnership that activates itself exactly when at the right moment and always with the right woman / car nearby.

Such an example is Porsche 911 GT3 modified by Autodynamica and his sexy partner Shellee Nemeckek, a Texas model. The result: a provocative photo-shoot and an aroused guilty pleasure.

So, let us be clear about the characters involved into this situation: we have one super-hot model and a Porsche 911 GT3. The latter carries a new tuning package, with an electric program for the engine ($1,400), also offering a new set of Brembo brakes ($4,990), a new exhaust system ($4,075), and a new set of wheels of 19″ and 21″ ($2345).

3-door Porsche Cajun Version Might Be Launched

If we were to believe our colleagues from Car and Driver, the highly anticipated Porsche Cajun might get a 3-door version and an interior that will be inspired from what we can see in the Panamera and Cayenne models. The crossover is going to be based on the Audi Q5 and will get a Quattro all-wheel drive system, bigger brakes and an updated suspension.

As far as the engines are concerned, we don’t have any certainties, but a 2.0-liter TFSI engine that develops 220 hp (223 PS / 164 kW) is possible, along with a V6 3.0-liter unit that cranks out 300 hp (304 PS / 224 kW) and 350 hp (355 PS / 261 kW). Most likely, there are going to be some diesels, like a 2.0-liter TDI that generates 200 hp (203 PS / 149 kW) and a bigger V6 3.0-liter TDI with 250 hp (253 PS / 186 kW) and 310 hp (314 PS / 231 kW).

A hybrid version is most likely under development, which will feature a 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline engine and an electric motor that generates 44 hp (45 PS / 33 kW), providing a combined output of 241 hp (245 PS / 180 kW) and 354 lb.-ft (480 Nm) of torque.

The Porsche Cajun will be assembled in Leipzig, Germany and it will hit the streets most likely in 2013/2014.

Epic Second-Hand Car Ad for Porsche

We won’t be surprised if we’ll find you that this guy has a job in publicity. If he doesn’t, he should. He is trying to sell his Porsche 911 Supersport through an amateur car ad which lookes better than a proffesional one.

Easy to follow plot, great editing, inspired frames and most of all a beatiful girl. You can’t have a proper car commercial without a beautiful girl, right?

Take a look at the video, you might consider buying the Porsche 911 Targa Supersport if the price won’t go through the roof after this stunt.

Porsche Cajun Will Get Powerful Diesel Engine

According to our esteemed colleagues from Autocar.co.uk, the Porsche Cajun (aka baby Cayenne) will get a powerful diesel engine from the Audi Q5. We are talking about a V6 3.0-liter unit that produces 309 hp (313 PS / 230 kW) and has a peak torque of 479 lb.-ft (649 Nm), outperforming the current V6 3.0-liter that generates only 247 hp (250 PS / 184 kW) and 406 lb.-ft (550 Nm) of torque.

Aside from the Audi Q5 and the Porsche Cajun, this engine will also be available for the following models from Audi: A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 and the Q7, according to Axel Eisner who is the company’s head of engine development.

Eisner denied the rumors regarding that this power unit will be the foundation for a new lineup of diesel-powered “S” variants, but did admit that Audi is developing an oil-burner 4-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine.

2001 was the year when the German automaker opened the Porsche Center Beijing Central and in order to honor the 10-year milestone, the company has decided to roll out a very limited edition 911, based on the Turbo S model. No wonder Porsche has decided to take this step if we take into consideration that China has become the second largest market for the company, managing to achieve an incredible growth over these last few years from only 27 units sold in 2002 to a whopping 13,856 in 2010.

There are going to be only 10 units of this Porsche 911 Turbo S China 10th Anniversary Edition and each of them will feature a bespoke “gold bronze” exterior finish, which will be contrasted by the carbon fiber bonnet, the matte black rims and the black headlight surrounds.

As far as the cabin is concerned, the gold & black theme continues, adding a few hints of Alcantara and leather to round up the styling. The sills and door panels get carbon fiber and gold stitching. As you might have expected already, all of the 10 cars will get a uniquely numbered plaque that denotes the car’s numbering.

Taking into consideration that this limited edition is based on the 2011 911 Turbo S, it means that it is powered by a 6-cylinder, twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter engine that produces 530 hp and 516 lb.-ft of torque. Those who will buy the cars will have to settle with the 7-speed PDK dual clutch gearbox and the AWD configuration as there are no alternatives. In addition, it will come with the launch control system, which means that it will be able to do the 0-62 mph sprint in a mere 3.3 seconds, 0-124 mph in 10,8 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 195 mph.

2012 Porsche Boxster, New Details Available

Our colleagues from CarMagazine have learned that the upcoming 3rd generation of the Porsche Boxster will be more differentiated from the 911, featuring a 4-cylinder engine and lots of technical modifications. The next Boxster (981) will not be an evolution of the current model, but an entirely new vehicle that will feature a cab-forward design which will be crisper and with sportier proportions.

The wheelbase of the new Boxster will be 60mm longer, while the overall length will be up by 37mm. The height will be dropped by 10mm and in the cabin; the legroom will be improved by 18mm. Despite the fact that it is going to be a little bit bigger and with more equipment, the 3rd generation of the Porsche Boxster will weigh 15 kg less than the outgoing model, which means that it will have a curb weight of 1320 kg for the standard version and 1340 kg for the “S” model.

The standard model will be powered by a 2.7-liter engine that will develop 265 hp and a peak torque of 280 Nm, while the Boxster S gets a more powerful 3.4-liter that churns 315 hp and 266 lb.-ft. of torque. Mated to the PDK gearbox, the standard model will do the 0-60 mph sprint in 5.7 seconds before hitting a top speed of 164 mph. The “S” needs only 4.9 seconds for the sprint and can reach a top speed of 171 mph

The 3rd generation of the Porsche Boxster will make its official debut in January next year at the Detroit Motor Show.

I never thought that one day I will be saying that I like the Porsche Panamera. Well, that day has come, thanks to the guys over at TopCar who revealed their newest styling package for what used to be a very ugly car in its standard configuration.

They named it “Stingray GTR” and it looks pretty awesome if you ask me, with those muscular new bumpers, the modified doors and the widened fenders. They also fitted the car with a new bonnet, a more aggressive diffuser, a huge rear wing and extended side skirts.

Leaving the looks aside, TopCar also throws in two performance packages for the Panamera. The first one raises the output of the V8 4.8-liter engine to more than 600 hp (447 kW) by installing a high-flow air filter; an intake manifold and a brand new sports exhaust system. If you want more power, they also offer the 700 hp (522 kW) package.

Porsche Explains Boxster E Prototypes

A couple of months ago, the German automaker Porsche revealed that they were working on three electric prototypes based on the company’s Boxster model, but they only shared a photo and said that the electric motors generate 241 hp (180 kW).

Fortunately, after taking the Boxster E in Berlin at the Michelin Challenge last week, they released more juicy details about these three prototypes (one of them is all-wheel drive while the other two are rear-wheel drive).

The AWD model is powered by two electric motors, one installed on the front axle while the other on the rear one, generating a combined output of 241 hp (180 kW) and a peak torque of 398 lb.-ft (540 Nm) @ 12,000 rpm.

As far as the RWD models are concerned, they feature only a rear axle-mounted electric motor that produces 121 hp (90 kW) and 199 lb.-ft (270 Nm) of torque, enough for a 0-60 mph sprint in 9.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 93 mph (150 km/h).

All of these three green Porsche Boxster prototypes come with a 29 kWh lithium-ion battery that should be enough for a driving range of up to 107 miles. The battery has a curb weight of 752 pounds (341 kg) and the German engineers installed it where the combustion engine used to be. The entire car tips the scales at 3,527 pounds (1,600 kg). By using a regular socket, the battery can be charged in about 9 hours.

The company said that although there are new electric components installed on these Boxsters, there is still enough room in the front storage compartment for a luggage, along with the regular rear luggage area of the normal Boxster.

Mcchip-dkr is a German aftermarket specialist and their latest tuning program is for the Porsche 911 GT2 997. The car still has the same 3.6-liter engine that we find in the standard version, but the power has been raised from 530 hp to 657 hp and the peak torque has also received a boost, up from the standard 680 Nm to 835 Nm.

They did this by modifying the turbochargers, installing high-performance charge air coolers, along with Cargraphic 200-cell sport catalysts and manifolds. In addition, they’ve fitted the 911 with a silicone Tube Set and a Stage 3 software remapping by KUBATECH which said that the engine could output more than 900 Nm, but it would most likely have a negative impact on the car’s derivability.

This power kit is priced at 23,000 Euros and you will have to wait 6-8 working days to have it fitted to your 911 GT2 997.

Yet Another Porsche 911 Variant Announced!

As if there weren’t enough variants of the current generation Porsche 911, the Ingolstadt-based automaker has announced yet another one – the 911 Carrera 4 GTS, just a few months away from the next-gen 911. This new variant of the current 911 is in fact the all-wheel drive version of the 911 Carrera GTS, a car that we saw first last year at the Paris Motor Show.

Customers will be able to choose from both coupe and cabrio variants, powered by a 6-cylinder 3.8-liter inline engine that outputs 402 hp (408 PS / 300 kW) and has a peak torque of 310 lb.-ft (420 Nm). As standard, this engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or with the optional 7-speed double-clutch PDK transmission. 0-60 mph will be done in 4.6 seconds for the coupe model fitted with the manual, while the convertible is a little bit slower, needing 4.8 seconds. The PDK gearbox shaves off 0.2 seconds for both variants.

The car features a new wide bodykit that has a wider rear track, a front apron, black spoiler lip, black side skirts, along with 19-inch RS Spyder black-painted rims with central locking. The cabin gets sports seats and a black Alcantara trim for the center console, gearshift, steering wheel rim, door handles and handbrake lever.

As far as the PTM all-wheel drive system, it features torque vectoring in order to send the suitable amount of twisting power to the wheels in the front with a limited-slip differential for the car’s rear axle.

In Germany, the base price for the coupe version is 111,959 Euros, while the cabriolet starts from 122,071 Euros. The model is scheduled to go on sale this July.
