2012 Renault Megane RS unveiled

2012 Renault Megane RS

The French automaker Renault has unveiled a few days ago the revision for its hot Megane RS model which is also known as the Megane Renaultsport 265. That figure comes from the total amount of power that the engine is capable of developing, along with a peak torque of 360 Nm. This means that the facelift model is 15 hp and 20 Nm more powerful than the model it replaces.

Aside from the power boost, the engineers from Renault have managed to improve the sound of the engine thanks to the implementation of a more open exhaust system along with a reinforced sound pipe.

Around the headlights of the new Megane RS are two rows of six LEDs painted in black. Other new features include the red stripes and a choice of 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels. Renault has used the same red theme for the interior cabin where we find Recaro seats covered in leather, black lacquer finish and eye-grabbing red stitching.

Renault reveals facelift for Scenic & Grand Scenic

Earlier this week Renault revealed the first official photos of the facelift Scenic / Grand Scenic, along with publishing some new information about the more efficient engines and the hi-tech equipment that the cars will be available with. On the outside, not much has changed, except for the front bumper and the headlights that now have a different shape and LED daytime running lights. At the back the story is just about the same, with revised lights and a new shape for the bumper.

The major news for the revised Scenic / Grand Scenic is under the hood where we find the new range of Energy engines which promise to be more efficient. The highlight of this lineup would have to be the 1.6-liter Energy dCi that generates 109 hp and has CO2 emissions of only 105 g/km, managing to return 69 mpg UK. There’s also a more powerful version with 128 hp that has 115 g/km of CO2 emissions and can return 64 mpg UK.

The new Scenic / Grand Scenic can be fitted with a 4-cylinder, 1.2-liter turbocharged engine that produces 114 hp. This power unit will be replacing the outgoing 1.6-liter 109 hp gasoline unit. The new engine has CO2 emissions of 135 g/km and is 20% more fuel efficient than the engine it replaces.

As standard, both cars will be available with hill start assist, while the Scenic can be fitted – as an optional feature – with the company’s Visio system which has an automatic headlight function and a lane departure warning system.

The starting price for the Renault Scenic is 21,350 Euros, while the Grand Scenic can be yours if you are willing to spend at least 24,850 Euros. Both cars will become available in Europe next month, while the rest of the markets will get the cars later on.

Renault Alpine Revival In The Works

Renault Alpine

Just like Citroen is doing with its premium DS range, Renault is working on resurrecting the Alpine name. The company’s product manager Beatrice Foucher said last week that at least one coupe model based on an entirely new modular platform is under development, so it is safe to assume that the Alpine designation might make it into the already greenlighted Renaultsport version. The product manager also mentioned that a new platform will be used for the upcoming generations of the Megane and the Laguna.

The next generation of the Laguna will be out in 2013 or 2014 but we shall see a standalone model that will replace the current coupe version of the Laguna which in the last few years hasn’t been that popular among European customers. I personally like how the Laguna Coupe looks but its price tag is exaggerated.

Foucher mentioned that the company is working on the Alpine name and there is a good possibility that it would be added to the hot Renaultsport lineup. She stated that the company’s sporty division wasn’t able to develop its models from scratch due do the fact that the sub-brand is not currently “educated” in.

In the next twelve months, the Megane and the Scenic will get a well-deserved facelift according to Foucher, in order to bring the styling of the cars in line with the funky new Twingo that premiered in Frankfurt.

Renault Twizy Has New Ideas About Personal Transportation

Renault Twizy is a two-seater electric vehicle, a concept which redefines our entire image about what we thought vehicles of the future should be. The result? Cities looking similar to electric kart tracks, due to this tiny but fast concept car.

It’s a good-looking open-air car, especially for women’s taste, plus that it offers great visibility in both sides – perfect for ladies who have problems with using only the car mirrors. The comfortable seating for two makes it ideal for all the shopping session with your best friend and in the storage space fits more than your new shoes or a dress.

Renault Twizy is tiny, which make it perfect for congested cities, so you don’t have to worry about fitting in narrow streets, finding a place where to park or sneaking through other cars. It’s 7.87 feet long and 3.9 feet wide.

Another part that should be discussed is its features as EV. So, the charging time: it takes three and a half hour for fully recharging. The range is around 60 miles of city driving, so it might be an option if the bicycle or the motorcycle has been already rejected.

Renalut Twizy is available in two versions: the first, Twizy 45, a 5 HP version with a top speed of 28 mph and a price of €6,990. The second one is the “regular” Twizy with 17 HP and a top speed of 50 mph, up to €7,690. Any of these models include lithium-ion batteries, but they can be rented for €50 ($68) per month.

Would you like such a car for yourself?
