The British automaker Vauxhall has introduced in UK the Combo light commercial vehicle which can be ordered with one of the four available diesel engines, including the entry-level 1.3-liter CDTi with 89 hp (90 PS) up to the 2.0-liter CDTi that generates 133 hp (135 PS).
Clients are able to choose from two different wheelbases, two gross vehicle weights and two heights, along with two different trim levels. The entry-level L1H1 2000 1.3 CDTi 16v starts at 14,703 pounds (without VAT) and goes all the way up to 18,203 pounds for the L1H2 2000 2.0 CDTi Sportive.

Opel Insignia BiTurbo
Opel/Vauxhall introduced this week the BiTurbo version of the Insignia which is powered by a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine that churns 192 hp (194 PS / 143 kW) and has a peak torque of 295 lb.-ft (400 Nm). With this power unit, the Insignia needs 8.7 seconds to do the 0-62 mph sprint, en route to a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h).

Efficiency-wise, the car will be able to return 48 mpg (57.6 mpg UK or 4.9 liters / 100 km) and will have CO2 emissions of 129 g/km CO2.

2012 Opel Astra OPC
After a few months of preliminary information, we now have the complete details about the upcoming Opel Astra OPC (Vauxhall Astra VXR). The car will be motivated by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that develops 277 hp (280 PS / 206 kW) and a peak torque of 295 lb.-ft (400 Nm), which makes it the most powerful Astra in all its history, capable of reaching a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

The powerful bigger brother of the Astra GTC comes with a few chassis modifications in order to handle that entire horsepower that goes to the front axle. The OPC comes with a mechanical limited slip differential on the front axle to diminish as much as possible the problem of torque steer.

The guys from Auto Express have taken this week several spy shots with the Vauxhall Astra VXR while undergoing some tests before its official release which will happen sometime in the beginning of next year. The car will be able to do the 0-62 mph sprint in less than 6 seconds, en route to a maximum speed of more than 150 mph.
The new generation of the Astra VXR will be able to develop 300 hp, which is considerably more in comparison to the 237 hp of the outgoing model. Those ponies will be sent to the front wheels and it is expected to come as standard with a limited-slip differential.
As you probably know this by now, the model is based on the three-door GTC but it will come with bigger alloys, a more muscular bodykit and a rear spoiler. In addition, the Astra VXR will be equipped with cross-drilled Brembo brakes for additional stopping power.
The car is expected to carry a starting price of about 25,000 pounds.

The Opel/Vauxhall Combo is yet another model that is the result of a partnership between General Motors Europe and the Fiat Group. Based on the Fiat Doblo, the Opel/Vauxhall Combo will have a starting price in the United Kingdom from 14,703 pounds and it will be available starting with February 2012.
The model will be sold in two lengths: 4.39m and 4.74m; two gross vehicle weights: 4,410 lbs (2,000 kg) and 5,070 lbs (5,070 lbs); two heights: 1.85m and 2.10m; four diesel engines and two trim levels.
As far as the engines are concerned, these include a 1.3-liter CDTi and a 1.6-liter CDTi, each of them with 90 hp, along with a 1.6 CDTi that has 105 PS, plus a beefier 2.0 CDTi that churns 135 PS. The 1.3 CDTi power unit will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox while the other engines will get a 6-speed manual transmission. The 1.6 CDTi will also be available with the company’s Tecshift automated 5-speed manual gearbox. All of the other engines will be fitted with a stop/start system for cutting down CO2 emissions and lowering fuel consumption.
Some of the van’s standard features include trip computer, full-steel bulkhead, remote central door locking, electric power steering, ABS with EBD, driver’s airbag, 12 volt power outlet located in the dashboard and CD/radio. Those who opt for the Sportive trim level will get metallic paint, air conditioning, nearside sliding door, body-color bumpers and side mirrors, full wheel covers, driver seat with armrest, lumbar support and height adjustments.

A car that has a V8 engine isn’t going to win any eco marathons, that’s a fact. At such competitions you would expect to win a hybrid, a diesel or some other frugal and eco-friendly car that doesn’t have a lot of HP under its hood and is let’s face it, boring (well, maybe except for the Tesla S).
The exception to this rule comes from the Vauxhall VXR8 which is motivated by a massive LS3 6.2-liter engine that fires 431 hp. The car is essentially a rebadged Holden HSV, and it managed to win the Fleet World MPG Marathon two-day competition, covering 350 miles.
We should state that the award was not handed for the most efficient car in the competition, but for the one that managed to record the highest percent improvement in comparison to the official fuel consumption figures published by the automakers.
The Vauxhall VXR8 was driven by Chris Mooney who is an editor at Top Gear, while on the passenger seat was Andrew Duerden who is an eco-driving expert and a Vauxhall archivist. The official fuel consumption for the car is 21 mpg UK (17.5 mpg US or 13.4 liters / 100 km), but Mooney was able to improve it by a whopping 53% to 32.14 mpg UK (26.7 mpg US or 8.8 liters / 100 km).

The fastest and most powerful Vauxhall Corsa ever made has finally arrived in the company’s UK dealerships where it carries a price tag of 22.295 pounds which is almost 3,400 pounds than the regular VXR model which will set you back “only” 18,900 pounds.

The only MPV in the world I would ever consider buying is this awesome Vauxhall/Opel Zafira Tourer, which has made it to the Frankfurt Motor Show. The UK version will have a starting price of 21,000 pounds for the budget ES 1.8 trim level. This means that the 7-seater will be 1,200 pounds more affordable than the Ford S-Max, which at the moment is the top player in this segment.
It has the same seven-seat configuration as the regular Zafira MPV, but the new Tourer version is 190 mm longer while the wheelbase has been extended by 57 mm. In addition, track is up by a good 96 mm in the front and 78 mm out in the back. The interior cabin of the model has gained additional seating flexibility as well as a higher level of quality, plus there are a whole bunch of new electronic driver aids, along with two more power units.
The second row of the Zafira Tourer features three separate seats instead of a traditional bench, while its central chair can be folded and rotated away to create more space for the outer-seat passengers. In the front, the MPV now has an additional storage compartment located between the seats and the armrests which are flexible.
For this model, the German engineers borrowed the isolated subframe and the MacPherson strut suspension from the Insignia, while at the back it has a Watt’s linkage configuration which should provide additional stability. An optional feature would have to be the company’s FlexRide reactive adaptive damping.
As far as the engines are concerned, the sexy Zafira Tourer can be ordered with a 1.8-liter gasoline unit that develops 138hp, along with a turbocharged 1.4-liter that has the same output. Other than that, it comes with a trio of 2.0-liter CDTi diesel engines that are available also for the aforementioned Insignia. These diesels generate 109, 128 and 163 hp.
As we mentioned, the base model will be the ES trim, which is followed by the more expensive Exclusiv, Sri, SE and the top-spec Elite. The 1.8-liter gasoline engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the others feature a 6-speed manual or the optional 6-speed automatic transmission (available on certain models). Also on some variants, stop/start will be available.
Some of the new tech goodies include lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, blind spot alert, along with parking aid that can detect appropriate spaces and after that will guide the driver in.
The introduction of the Zafira Tourer doesn’t mean that the standard model will be discontinued, at least not in the first few years. Opel has hinted that in the future they will launch a bunch of other new models, like a SUV derived from the Corsa, along with a soft-roader like Peugeot’s 3008 model in order to replace the Antara which hasn’t been doing so good as far as sales are concerned.
The new Opel/Vauxhall Zafira Tourer is scheduled to go on sale towards the end of this year.

The first car in the small segment launched by Vauxhall is going to be this model, dubbed internally as the Junior. Set to rival cars like the Fiat 500 or the Mini, it set to go on sale in the beginning of 2013. It is going to be a 3-door hatchback that measures 3.7 meters, just like the Mini. Most likely, it will have an appealing and cute design, with a low beltline, narrow pillars and big round-shaped headlights.
The styling for the car was created by the Vauxhal/Opel studio located in Russelsheim and should be able to accommodate up to four adults thanks to its spacious cabin which should offer more room than the aforementioned funky Fiat 500.
As far as the engines are concerned, the Vauxhall Junior will probably come with a range of frugal 3-cylinder engines, both gasoline and diesel variants. In addition, more powerful engines are probably under development. According to company insiders, the power unit will probably be offered in two different sizes in order to accommodate bigger powertrains. Moreover, in 2015 Vauxhall will most likely launch an electric variant of the Junior.

When it will hit the market, the car is not going to wear the “Junior” designation. The bosses over at General Motors said that the real name has already been chosen and we might find it out next month during the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Vauxhall Astra VXR Announced
The British carmaker Vauxhall has confirmed a few days ago that they are working hard on the hot VXR version of the sexy Astra GTC coupe and it will be out sometime in 2012. Described as to be the “most exciting development”, it seems that it will be a carbon fiber copy of the GTC concept car that we saw last year at the Paris Motor Show. A source within the company told Auto Express that it will wear the exact same vibrant red paint, along with massive 20-inch alloy wheels, color-coded bodywork and race-inspired bucket seats.
The car will be powered by an updated version of the company’s gasoline engine which is set to output 295 hp. It will borrow the suspension of the Insignia VXR with a little bit of tweaks, along with a louder exhaust and beefier brakes. As standard, the Vauxhall Astra VXR will get the company’s FlexRide system that will give drivers the opportunity to choose from one of the three different sporty driving modes and for this model it might get a fourth “VXR” setting which promises to provide a sharper steering as well as a not so noticeable ESP.
Vauxhall didn’t release any figures as far as the performances of the car are concerned, but with such power under the hood it will certainly be able to face up cars like the Volkswagen Scirocco R and the Renaultsport Megane.
The car will probably come as standard with the start/stop system as the engineers are working hard in order to make the Astra VXR meet the emission regulations.
The price tag of the Vauxhall Astra VXR will be revealed next year.

2012 Opel Ampera
Opel/Vauxhall has teamed up with Europcar in order to introduce the sexy Ampera model as a rental vehicle throughout the European continent. The car will hit the market at the end of this year and with this agreement both parties want to facilitate the launch of electric mobility, extending the range of drivers that want to drive greener cars.
The first vehicles will be deployed in Germany this November and after that the Ampera will arrive in Belgium and Holland. At the beginning of next year, the model will reach Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and UK.
The Opel/Vauxhall Ampera is a REEV – Range Extended Electric Vehicle that comes with an electric motor that generates 150 hp (111 kW) and is powered by a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. When it is fully charged, the car can be driven in electric mode between 40 and 80 km.
For longer trips, the Ampera will use a gasoline engine that powers a generator in order to supply the needed electricity, increasing the driving range up to 500 km.

The Vauxhall Insignia lineup has gained a new member thanks to the addition of a new ultra-low emissions ecoFLEX diesel variant that reduces CO2 emissions by 10%, from 129 g/km to 115 g/km. This reduction was possible by fitting the car with the start & stop technology, a premiere for the Insignia model. Other modifications made to lower the CO2 emissions are the low rolling resistance tires and various underbody aerodynamic modifications.
This new 2.0-CDTi diesel engine is Euro 5 compliant and is available in two output configurations: 130 PS and 160 PS. With the first one, the Opel Insignia needs 10.4 seconds for the 0-62 mph sprint and reaches a top speed of 129 mph. With the more powerful engine, 0-62 mph takes 8.9 seconds and the top speed is 137 mph.
Other new goodies added to the model are the 18-inch, 5-spoke alloy rims and the new sat-nav units.
The base price for the model fitted with the 130 PS engine starts from 29,385 pounds, while the top-spec SRi Nav Vx Line Red Sports Tourer with the 160 PS ecoFLEX engine costs 29,385 pounds.

Here is something that I never thought I would see, Vauxhall has built the world’s first fashion catwalk out of cars. They did it in order to celebrate the 10th season of their Fashion Scout. This rather odd catwalk was built out of three new Corsas and the models hovered 1.5 meters above the ground.
This installation featured a 3-hour show as part of London’s Fashion Week and the models you see in these pictures spent a week “testing” the high-rise podium, prior to showing off the carefully choreographed moment.
If you didn’t know, the aforementioned Vauxhall Fashion Scout is a common presence at London’s Fashion Week and its main purpose is to give less popular designers the chance to have their own catwalk show, exhibition or presentation during the Fashion Week.
Over its history, this event has given UK some of the most important fashion designers of the country, like Bodyamr, Prophetik or William Tempest who went to work for Daisy Lowe, Emma Watson and the very beautiful Cheryl Cole.

General Motors has revealed today the price list for the Vauxhall Antara, which will be available for purchase soon in the UK. The SUV will be offered with one engine that has two power levels. In other words, the 2.2 CDTI will output either 163 PS and 350 Nm or 184 PS and 400 Nm of torque. This engine will be mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission. The Antara will be offered in both FWD and AWD versions.
A very interesting thing about the Antara is its ITCC – Intelligent Torque Controlled Coupling system that is available for the AWD version. This system is capable of offering a fast response to changing road conditions, while being lightweight, compact and maintenance-free.
With the 184 PS engine, the Vauxhall Antara does the 0-62 mph sprint in 9, 6 seconds, onto a top speed of 124 mph. Fuel consumption is 42.8 mpg combined while the CO2 emissions level is 175 g/km.
The Vauxhall Antara fitted with the 163 PS engine has a base price of 19,995 GBP for the front-wheel-drive model while the AWD model with automatic transmission costs from 25,855 GBP. For the more powerful model, the car has a base price of 25,455 GBP. This power unit is offered only with the all-wheel drive system.

Exclusively for the UK market, General Motors launched the new Vauxhall Corsa XVR Blue special edition that entices customers with big cost savings on equipment in comparison to the standard model. The car is equipped with a 1.6-liter power unit that is capable of outputting 191 hp and 260 Nm of torque, allowing it to do the 0-60 mph sprint in 6.8 seconds, onto a top speed of 140 mph.
Being a special edition, it comes bundled with some nice features like the Arden Blue metallic paint, dark-tinted glass, Recaro seats, bespoke interior air vents and cool 18-inch alloy rims. In comparison with the standard model, the Vauxhall Corsa VXR Blue has a more aggressive front end with deep in-set fog lamps along with a lower front spoiler and a wider front grille.

The list of optional features available for the car include a switchable ESP – Electronic Stability Program, upgraded brakes as well as lowered sports suspension.
Available only in the United Kingdom, the Vauxhall Corsa VX Blue has a starting price of 19,425 pounds and will be available at dealerships next month.
Although it looks very cool in my opinion and has some great features, the price tag makes it less desirable in comparison with other cars in this segment that are way more affordable.
