In 2000, when the Tacuma model first appeared on the market, it was signed by Daewoo, but later on, in 2005, the brand was taken over by Chevrolet and the Tacuma became General Motor’s project. Before 2005 the car looked a little dated inside and outside, but with the help of Chevrolet has become a more attractive car. In 2005, the new Chevrolet Tacuma was released with two engines choices available: a 1.6 or a 2.0 liter petrol engine and two different trim levels from which to choose: the SX and the CDX. In addition, the Chevrolet Tacuma started to have a more affordable price and to offer sufficient space because of the possibility to fold the rear seats.
Nowadays, the Chevrolet Tacuma offers a comfortable and spacious cabin even for the passengers who sit in the car’s back. Those passengers also have the opportunity to enjoy a folding tray which is placed near the front seats. Tacuma’s interior also offers drink holders and cubbies. It also features adjustable controls, air conditioning, chrome touches on the door handles, central remote locking, CD stereo and power steering. In the standard package the manufacturer also included for the same money heated door mirrors and an automatic locking system. It’s the perfect car for a family of five. It also offers storage drawers under the front seats while the rear middle seat can be folded.
Under the hood, the Chevrolet Tacuma hosts a 1.6 liter engine able to produce 105 horsepower which needs few modifications for an increased performance. As a result, the car goes from zero to 60 mph in only 11.5 seconds while the maximum speed achieved is of around 104 mph. It’s also available a 2.0 liter engine version, but, even so, many drivers think that a higher engine capacity would do a better job, because most of them like better performance when the car achieves maximum speeds. All the Chevrolet Tacuma models are equipped with a five speed manual transmission. The Chevrolet team paid more attention to the handling system of the Chevrolet Tacuma. As a result, you can now enjoy the involvement of all the wheels on any type of terrain roads.
The driving experience is quite impressive, especially when you drive the Chevrolet Tacuma at corners or at turns, because it acts great when you have to accelerate and then use the braking system just a few moments later. Tight corners are not a problem! The engine is a little too noisy and can be irritable for those who sit in the back seats, but this inconvenience is compensated by the generous interior space and the features which make the ride much comfortable and fun. The Chevrolet Tacuma also offers a good fuel consumption average of 32 mpg for the 1.6 liter engine version.
There is also available a 2.0 CDX version of the Chevrolet Tacuma which features 15 inch alloy wheels, four side airbags, air conditioning and electric windows. This version also comes with front fog lamps, rain sensing wipers and an upgraded trim. Inside, the Chevrolet Tacuma models manufactured between 2005 and 2009 aren’t as luxurious as you would expect. Maybe that’s because of the plastic material used on the dashboard which gives the impression of a shiny-hard design.
If you are interested in buying a Chevrolet Tacuma model you should know that the cheapest price for a 1.6 liter SX model is of around £6,000 if you buy it from a dealership while the price for a 2.0 liter CDX is of £6,500. In 2011 Chevrolet will release a newer version.
