Green Recalls – Zero S & Zero DS Electric Motorcycles
The electric motorcycle maker Zero Motorcycles announced yesterday a recall of certain 2009MY and 2010MY Zero and Zero DS motorcycles in order to replace the front brake caliper bracket. There is a risk that under heavy braking, the motorcycle’s front brake caliper bracket may deform, causing brake pad misalignment and reducing the performance of the front brake.
This recall affects the 2009MY Zero S motorcycles that were built between September 2, 2009 and December 22, 2009; 2010MY Zero S units built from February 1st, 2010 to March 31, 2011; 2009MY Zero DS motorcycles produced from July 27, 2009 until December 28th, 2009; and the 2010MY Zero DS motorcycles that were manufactured between January 20th, 2010 and March 31st, 2011.
The recall should start before the ending of this month, once the dealers get the necessary supplies of the updated brake caliper bracket. They will have to replace the old one with the redesigned front brake caliper bracket as well as replace the front brake pads in order to provide accurate alignment between the rotor and the brake pads. In addition, they will also check the brake fluid for signs of overheating and replace it, if necessary.
