Hyundai named most efficient automaker in the USA, averages 30.1 mpg

Fuel efficiency is becoming one of the most important aspects new car buyers are considering when shopping around for a vehicle. That is why all major companies are pursuing any type of new technology which will add to the final miles per gallon figure.

According to a new study from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, such customers should consider buying a Hyundai model, as the South Korean company has the highest average mpg value, 30.1 for all of its vehicles, trumping all of its competitors.

“Our thoughtful application of cost-effective, fuel-efficient technologies has helped us achieve our goal of leading the industry in fuel economy ahead of schedule,” said John Krafcik, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America. “Now we hope to extend that leadership with the launch of our new direct injection, turbocharging and lithium-polymer hybrid technologies, all of which will be a part of the 2011 Sonata lineup launching early next year.”

In second place came Honda, with 29.7, Volkswagen with 29.6, Toyota with 29.4 and Kia with 28.0. But expect all manufacturers to further increase their average mpg value, as by 2016, they will need to meet the strict 35.5 mpg minimum that the US government will force on any carmaker selling its vehicles in the country.
