Jaguar C-X16 Priced From 55,000 Pounds

Jaguar C-X16

One of the most beautiful cars exhibited this year in Frankfurt would have to be the Jaguar C-X16, a car that the automaker’s boss Adrian Hallmark said that it will cost between 55,000 and 70,000 pounds. No word at the moment about the launch date of the model, although there were some speculations that it would hit the market in 2012.

Under the hood of the car is a new supercharged V6 3.0-liter engine that produces 375 hp and has a peak torque of 332 lb.-ft. It is an Euro 6 compliant power unit that benefits from the second generation of Jaguar’s direct injection technology and has a higher 10.5:1 compression ratio, along with a 6th generation Rootes-type supercharger, allowing the engine to deliver 127 hp per liter. This power unit also comes with the Twin Solenoid Starter stop/start system and is mated to a new 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox that has a built-in electric motor.

The car also features a 95 hp / 173 lb.-ft electric motor that can allow the C-X16 to be driven on pure electric mode at speeds of up to 50 mph for small distances, drawing the juice from the 1.6 kWh battery located behind the back seats. By combining a downsized engine with the electric motor and the aforementioned stop/start system, allowed the engineers from Jaguar to create a car that has CO2 emissions of only 165 g/km.

With these hardware specifications, the Jaguar C-X16 can do the 0-62 mph sprint in only 4.4 seconds, en route to an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph. The car can boost from 50 to 75 mph in 2.1 seconds. It has been fitted with a “push to pass” located on the steering wheel which permits access to the extra boost which gives the driver of the vehicle ten precious seconds of maximum power.
