If you feel that the investment in the car might not be worth it because you either could get little money for the car, or you could have costly repairs, then maybe it’s better to strip it to its components and sell it for parts.
Either way, you should seek out and check at the local junkyards. Usually junkyards, agree to buy junk or old cars as they are if you put a reasonable price on them. Of course you will not get as much for the car as you would from an individual since they have to do all the “heavy lifting” in stripping the car apart and taking all the pieces that are worth something and then sell them for goods. This is probably the easiest way to get your hands on a few bucks and get rid of the car in one stride. Consider that some junkyards may offer fewer cash than others but they might come with free transport, so you should be careful when choosing. Getting a transporter to move your car from your location to the junkyard could get more pricy than you’ve anticipated.
Use all the online websites you can get and place some ads. Craigslist.org or eBayMotors.com is a great way to start. These two websites are major players on the virtual market with thousands and thousands of visits every single day.
A simpler idea is to go local. The classifieds section of a newspaper or the local “Thrifty Nickel” ad book is a good place to place an ad. If you want a more direct approach, snoop around for people that are looking for car parts. Give them a call and have them come over and check out the car. There is a big chance they will like it and come up with a price. Remember, be flexible a little haggle is actually expected from both sides so don’t say a direct “NO”.
Make sure to place loads of ads in local store and other popular places. A flyer is very easy to make if you know your way around a computer. A simple program such as PowerPoint should be more than enough to help you make the ads more attractive and allow you to insert a picture of the car.
