The next generation of the Audi A3 has been spied by the journalists from Auto Express who captured a few photos of the car while undergoing some tests in Germany. The new model is very important for Audi because it will have to face some serious competition coming from the BMW 1-Series and the Mercedes-Benz A Class.

The design of the new model will adopt a larger front grille, LED daytime running lights, chunky C-pillars and short overhangs. Inside the cabin, the new A3 will offer more equipment, including Wi-Fi and Google Maps-enabled satellite navigation system.

As far as the engines are concerned, the car will be available with a bunch of gasoline engine that will develop between 105 hp and 210 hp, along with 1.6- and 2.0-liter TDI units. Also in the works is a 100 hp TDIe variant that promises to return more than 80 mpg UK while CO2 emissions will be less than 100 g/km. Due in 2013 are electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants of the new A3.

Enhancing the chassis of the new model will be the Audi Drive Select as well as adaptive dampers. Even though the car promises to remain just as fun to drive as the outgoing model, the new generation will offer a more grown-up experience and a more comfortable ride, while increasing the level of refinement.
The 3-door version of the new Audi A3 will come out in the first part of 2012, followed later on by the 4-door sedan. In 2013 we’ll probably see the Cabriolet model and the 5-door Sportback variant.
Described by the Ingolstadt-based automaker as being “an all-around vehicle for future mobility”, the A3 e-tron will probably be one of the first all-electric models launched by Audi. It has a permanent magnet synchronous motor that is capable of supplying a continuous output of 60 kW (82 hp) and a peak power of 85 kW (114 hp), while the torque figure stands at 199 lb.-ft. The entire power is sent to the wheels in the front via a single-speed gearbox.
The lithium-ion battery pack of the Audi A3 e-tron has been installed under the luggage compartment floor, rear seats and in the center tunnel. It weighs only 30 kgs and stores 26.5 KWh of usable energy at 380 volts.

According to the German car maker, the car needs approximately 9 hours for a full charge through a regular household socket, or only 4 hours via rapid charge. With the batteries full, the A3 e-tron can be driven for distances of up to 87 miles, and it is able to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 11.2 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 90 mph.
The driver of the car has the possibility to choose from one of the three available driving modes: dynamic, auto and efficiency, along with four options for adjusting the degree of energy recovery during braking and coasting.
The new generation of the Audi A3 will arrive at the beginning of next year when the 3-door variant will be out. Set to go head-to-head with the BMW 1-Series, the new A3 promises to be more luxurious, stylish and hi-tech than ever. The family of A3s will feature four body styles consisting of a sedan version (first ever for an A3), the 3-door, a 5-door Sportback (due in 2013) plus a hybrid/electric version.
The guys from Auto Express have drawn a few sketches with the upcoming Audi A3, based on official sketches from the German automaker. We can clearly see that the new model will be more angular than ever and its LED headlights will look similar to those of the facelifted A5 and the new generation of the A6. The front grille will be borrowed from the compact sedan that the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer revealed back in March at the Geneva Motor Show.

Expect to see chunky rear pillars and a sloping roof which will give the all-new A3 a sportier profile. The “tornado line” – a pronounced crease that is running from the front to back along the flanks, will be found on all of the variations of the A3.
The interior cabin promises to offer a better build quality, just as the company has done with the A1 and the A6 models. We will most likely find chunkier heat controls as well as eyeball-style air vents borrowed from the aforementioned A1 model. In addition, the A3 will feature high quality materials and a soft-touch dashboard. As for gadgets, we’ll probably see a satellite navigation system which will be able to display directions on to satellite images grabbed from Google Maps, along with an Internet connection.

Under the hood the clients will have a lot to choose as there will be 1.2, 1.4, 1.8 and beefier 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engines that will produce from 105 hp for the entry-level unit to 210 hp for the most powerful in the lineup. For those who want a more frugal A3, it will be available with 1.6 and 2.0-liter TDIs, the latter offering about 170 hp. Also in the works is an even more economical TDIe model which will be able to return more than 80 mpg UK and it should output 100 hp.
In late 2013 we will probably see hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric versions of the A3, but we don’t have any details about the engines for these models. However, the A3 sedan concept in Geneva had a 1.4-liter TFSI engine that produced 211 hp, along with an electric motor that generated 27 hp. The EV version of the Audi A3 will get the technology from the e-tron concept.

The new generation of the A3 is based on the VW Group’s recently developed MQB chassis, but in comparison to the upcoming Golf 7, a car that will use the same chassis, it will have more aluminum parts so that the weight will be lower and at the same time it will offer improved agility for both 2WD and 4WD variants of the car. As optional features, clients will be able to get their A3 with adaptive dampers and Audi Drive Select.
Yesterday, Audi released a batch of sketches that preview the next generation of its A3 model, a car that will go on sale in late 2012. In these drawings we are able to see the 3-door hatchback and sedan versions, along with a cockpit view. It seems that the German automaker Audi is having a difficult time keeping up with the increasing demand. For example, if you want to get the new A6 sedan, you’ll have to wait about three to four months to drive it. The car will be available starting with next month and buyers are already eager to get one as soon as possible.

According to spokeswoman Esther Bahne, buyers of the new A6 and the compact A3 will have to wait a long time, due to the models ‘popularity. She added that customers have to wait about eight to ten weeks more than usual, after they place an order.
Volkswagen AG, along with the rest of the two German giants, BMW and Mercedes, reported record sales last month, with the VW unit selling more cars than the other two. In order to satisfy the increasing demand in the Chinese market along with the US and China, all of the aforementioned manufacturers are either opening up new plants or expanding their current ones.
As far as BMW customers are concerned, they have to wait about three models for the vast majority of the models in the lineup, except for the very popular X3 SUV for which you’ll have to wait even six months, according to Birgit Hiller, a spokeswoman for BMW.

Getting back to Audi, they managed to account 47% of VW’s operating profit in the first nine months of last year. VW’s luxury division managed to increase deliveries by more than 30% in the last five years, achieving 1.09 million units last year.
It seems that slowly but surely the Audi A3 sedan is becoming a reality. That’s at least according to a brand new report coming from Germany.
Even though the regular A3 hatchback is getting by thanks to its green diesel image, the Ingolstadt manufacturer plans to really tug at the heart strings of American consumers by releasing a dedicated sedan model.
As you can clearly guess, the car would slot in below the larger A4 in terms of price, and offer a lower entry point into the Audi range for new customers. It will also be largely unchallenged, as BMW only offers the 1 Series as a coupe, and Mercedes-Benz isn’t really decided on if it will launch a smaller sedan, presumably based on the next B Class.

While we Europeans love our hatchbacks, with sales of models like the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus or Audi A3 going through the roof, US consumers aren’t really falling in love with models that don’t have big old trunks.
That is why Audi is preparing to launch a sedan version of its A3 hatchback, which although selling pretty good in the USA, hasn’t reached the expectations the German company established. Reportedly, this new model will be arriving in 2012, and will be exclusive to the US market.
In terms of size, it won’t differ that much, and will come close to the original A4 sedan. No word yet on pricing, or how much it will add to the hatchback’s starting price of $27,270, so until a concrete statement is released, just buy an extra car roof box for the A3.
The 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show wasn’t just about new concepts, new cars or interesting technologies, as it was also the place where the Green Car Journal awarded the Audi A3 TDI model the 2010 Green Car of the Year title.
This marks the second year in a row for a TDI model to win the prestigious award, as the Volkswagen Jetta TDI managed to win the 2009 edition of the competition. The Audi faced stiff competition as the other four finalists were the Toyota Prius, Mercury Milan Hybrid, Honda Insight and Volkswagen Golf TDI.
Considering it manage to win last year, and had two finalists in this year’s event, the TDI engine is showing that you don’t need a hybrid to be green. Who knows what the future will hold for the oil-burner which just celebrated 20 years of existence.

Thing’s aren’t looking very good for Audi, as according to the Automotive News, the bad dollar-euro currency conversion rate has made the German automaker perform quite poorly in the United States. In order to get things on the right track, the company seems to have abandoned plans to release its A1 city car or the convertible edition of the A3.
It seems that the company will offer something which will cater more to the average American client, and besides the already announced 5-door A3 with a 2-liter diesel engine, it will bring a new crossover, the Q3 model, and a sedan based on the A3.
Besides these new releases, the German car maker is presumably preparing an electric A2 for the US market, which will run on batteries, and a revamped A8, set for the end of 2010, alongside the new A7, which will appear a short time after it.
In today’s world, one of the most important features for almost any car is its fuel efficiency and how much CO2 it outputs, so that the driver won’t pay an arm and a leg at the fuel stop and won’t be picketed by Greenpeace for destroying the planet.
In order to further appeal to this new audience, Audi has just announced that it will be equipping the A3, both the normal and the Sportback version, with a new and improved 1.6-liter TDI engine, which can average 3.8 litres/100 km or 61.9 US mpg. Its CO2 emissions are pegged at 99 g/km, which is very good considering that the new motor will develop a respectable 105 HP and a torque of 250 Nm (184.39 lb-ft).
In order to make the engine so efficient, Audi threw in almost every piece of technology it had, including a special five-speed manual gearbox in which the final drive ratio in longer, a start-stop system which will turn off the engine if you leave it in neutral and take your foot off the clutch, a KERS-like system which will take the strain off the alternator when the car is braking and even a special Efficiency Platform chassis, which stands closer to the ground.
Don’t expect the new engine to deliver blistering performance, as the 1.6 TDI will take you from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 11.4 seconds, and up to 190 km/h (118 mph). The new motor will enter the European market in the first half of 2010, joining the other powerplants available for the A3 model.
German tuning company O.CT Tuning released the first details and photos of another package for the Audi S3. Called Boehler concept BS3, the car is based on the quattro version of the S3, powered by an upgraded engine that delivers 328 hp (241 kW) and a maximum torque of 425 Nm. The power upgrade was made by fitting a a specially developed Engine control unit, deep thorated Sportexhaust with integrated Controlfolds and improved Air Intake System. According to O.CT, the BS3 has a top speed of 265 km/h (165 mph) and it goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) “almost a full second quicker than the Stock S3″ (which does the sprint in 5.5 seconds).
Other upgrades include a fully adjustable O.CT Coilover Suspension, 8-piston braking system with 372 mm discs/rotors and O.CT Carbon Fiber Add-ons for the engine, battery and air intake. Last, but not least, the body kit looks very good, with widened fenders and redesigned rear bumper, finished in white and black paint, plus a set of 20 inch MÖZ alloy wheels.
The only downside of this package is its pricing, around 67,000 Euros, but the fact that the car will only be built in a limited run of 100 units, O.CT hopes to find customers for it.
