Audi A4 facelift revealed

Audi A4 facelift

The Ingolstadt-based automaker Audi has revealed the facelift for the A4 model which will go head-to-head with the 6th generation of the BMW 3-Series as well as with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. This is one of the most successful models in the company’s history and it will arrive in the United Kingdom showrooms in approximately three months.

UK customers will be able to order not only the regular sedan version, but also the Avant, Allroad Quattro and the hotter S4 variant. The latter is able to reach 62 mph from start in 5 seconds and hit a limited maximum speed of 155 mph, while the average fuel consumption is of 39.3 mpg UK.

The facelift for the A4 brings a slightly altered front-end exterior look that features more curvaceous headlamps assemblies along with reworked LED running lamps that now appear as an uninterrupted band. As optional, the car will be available with xenon main beam projectors.

Aside from this modification, the car now has a greater contouring to the hood, a new 6-corner single-frame grille which for the 4-cylinder models is gray while for the beefier 6-cylinder variants is painted black. The bumper has been re-profiled and it now carries trapezoidal shaped fog lamps. At the back, the Audi A4 features LED taillights plus a new bumper that houses a more prominent valance panel that has two chrome tailpipes.

Inside the cabin, the engineers from Audi wanted to improve the quality of the interior as well as the ease of use. They have a new design for the steering wheel, detailed design modifications to the switchgear, a higher quality center console and dashboard, along with an updated MMI “navigation plus” system that has only four buttons, instead of the eight buttons that you will find in the outgoing model.

As far as the engines are concerned, the car will be available with an all-new 4-cylidner 1.8-liter TFSI unit that also powers the A5 Sportback. This engine develops 170 hp, which is 10 hp more than the one it replaces and it should return 50.4 mpg UK while the CO2 emissions should be of 134 g/km, which is 19% better than before.

The entry-level gasoline engine will be the same 4-cylinder 1.8-liter with 118 hp, followed by a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter TFSI that churns 211 hp as well as the top-spec V6 3.0-liter supercharged engine that fires 328 hp in the all-wheel-drive S4.

On the diesel side, you will find the 4-cylinder 2.0-liter TDI engine that is available in no less than 5 different versions: 118 hp, 134 hp, 141 hp, 161 hp and 175 hp. The most frugal of them all is the 134 hp unit that can return 67.3 mpg UK while the CO2 emissions stand at 112 g/km. The Audi A4 can also be ordered with 6-cylinder 3.0-liter TDI engine that can develop 204 hp and 245 hp.

All of the FWD models are mated as standard to a 6-speed manual gearbox, but Audi also offers the optional Multitronic transmission, along with a double clutch, 7-speed S-tronic unit which won’t be available for all of the models in the A4 familiy.

From the 2.0-liter 175 hp 4-cylinder TDI power unit upwards, the Audi A4 can be ordered with an all-wheel-drive configuration. The ones fitted with a V6 engine also feature a sports differential which features torque vectoring for increased traction.

Another feature that will be available for all versions of the A4 is the electro-mechanical steering system, as well as the stop/start system, brake energy recuperation plus ancillary components that suck the energy only when required. Compared to the model it replaces, the new Audi A4 is 11% more economical.

2014 Audi A4 Plug-in Hybrid Will Get e-Quattro

2011 Audi A4 Avant

More and more details have surfaced the Internet this week regarding the 2014 Audi A4 (B9). According to the German journalists from AutoBild, the vehicle will ride on the MLB Evo platform which will lower the car’s weight by 265-331 lbs (120-150 kg). Although it will weigh less, the new A4 will grow in size to be a more worthy adversary for the enlarged 3-Series from BMW.

We don’t have any certainties about the engines, but we should expect a range of TDIs which will produce from 150 to 300 PS whereas the gasoline units will develop between 150 to 350 PS. All of the models in the lineup will most likely benefit from the stop/start system, thermal energy recovery system and brake energy recuperation.

According to various reports, we will also see a plug-in hybrid variant which will feature an electric motor mounted on the rear axle that will allow the car to travel between 19 and 37 miles (30 to 60 km) on electric mode. Moreover, this configuration will come with an all-wheel drive system named e-Quattro that won’t have any mechanical connections between the two axles.

In addition, rumors say that Audi will also launch a CNG variant as part of the company’s e-gas project.

Audi Rolls Out Five-Millionth A4

Yesterday was an important moment in Audi’s history as they managed to produce the five-millionth A4 model. The popularity of the car is understandable: it looks great, it’s very spacious for its class, and it is available in a whole bunch of configurations: sedan, wagon, S and my personal favorite, the Allroad version, which unfortunately isn’t available in the United States.

The five-millionth car was a 2.0 TFSI Quattro in Misano Red and with this occasion, Frank Dreves, who is a Member of the Board of Management at Audi stated that this achievement is “another major milestone in Audi’s history.”

I’m sure that if they bring the Allroad version to the US, the popularity of the A4 will be even bigger.

Audi offering Titanium Package for most 2011 models

Audi is set to offer a few more customization options for its 2011 model year cars, as Fourtitude reports that a new Titanium Package accessories kit will be showing up on options list for several key cars.

As such, the new A4, both in sedan and Avant body style, the S4, the A5 (pictured above) and the S5 will be suitable for the new Titanium package.

Why should you opt for the new kit? First off, it replaces all those shiny chrome inserts with more appropriate gloss black ones, including the grille. Add in the 19-inch RS wheels, the piano black interior trim, not to mention the sports suspension and sports seats, and you’ve got yourself one very attractive package.

The kit can’t be combined with the existing S-Line exterior package, but it will certainly attract a lot of long-time Audi fans. Pricing hasn’t been revealed, as 2011MY cars have yet to arrive in the USA. Expect more details in the following months.

Audi adds eight-speed automatic gearbox to A4, A5 and Q5 this fall

Audi first announced its new eight-speed automatic transmission for the 2011 A8 flagship limousine. After that, the 2011 Q7 refresh has also been confirmed to get the new automatic ‘box.

Now, the company announced that the transmission will also be making its way onto specific A4, A5 and Q5 models as soon as this fall. The 2011 A4 2.0-liter TFSI quattro edition, both in sedan and Avant form, will receive the new gearbox, as well as the 2011 A5 2.0-liter TFSI quattro coupe and cabriolet. The Q5, equipped with the … you guessed it, 2.0-liter TFSI engine will receive the new transmission as well.

At the beginning of fall, two versions of the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine will appear in the Q7 range, replacing the older 3.6-liter V6 and 4.2-liter V8. The new units will also be paired with this gearbox.

Don’t go thinking this will just add to the curb weight of the models or make things worse, as Audi guarantees a better performance, a lower fuel average and, thanks to the compact packaging of those eight gears, no extra weight.

Seat Exeo to be unveilled in Paris, teaser site launched

Well the Paris Motor Show surely is big stuff for the major European manufacturers. After quite a lot of them already announced to unveill new models or major facelifts for actual ones, you would think that no news could appear just a few days before the beginning of the show. Well guess again, this time Seat thought it was better late than never to begin the hype around its up coming mid-size sedan, the Exeo. The Dutch dealership has created this clever little teaser site which counts down until the beginning of the show in Paris. Besides this timer, several photos are depicted featuring some aspects of the new model. All of them point to the Exeo, Seat’s new mid size sedan, which is Audi’s old generation A4.

As expected, the Exeo will be based on the old A4, after Volkswagen, the parent company of the two manufacturers decided that another rival for the Ford Focus or Opel Insignia wouldn’t hurt the sales. Plus it would give a boost in profits for the Spanish manufacturer which is getting back on its feet after some quite troublesome years. Even though it will essentially be the old car, I have to admit that the latin design will be quite interesting. After all, they managed to transform a pretty dull Golf V into the gorgeous looking Leon.

Spy Shots: Audi A4 Allroad almost ready for debut

It seems like Audi has managed to keep the secret around the development of this car, the Audi A4 Allroad, because here are the first spy shots and the car looks almost ready to go. The car is completely undisguised and, besides the increased ride height, we can see the ‘Allroad’ elements, like the specific wheels arch extensions. We don’t have any official information, but, judging by the way it looks, we’ll probably get to see the car at next month’s Paris Motor Show. Probably we’ll also get to see a wagon model, but guess, we’ll have to wait for October to get more details from Ingolstadt.

The marathon will start on October 6th and the cars are Q7, Q5 and A4 models equipped with the 3.0 TDI engine and the A3 with the 2.0 liter TDI engine. This event probably means that Audi is considering more and more diesel powered models for the US market, because until now, the only model announced is the Q7, which will go on sale in the first part of 2009. Fellow bloggers from Autoblog and Autobloggreen will be among the 184 drivers attending the event, so we hope they have a lot of fun!
