Audi Q5 By Senner Revealed

Audi Q5 by Senner

The German tuners from Senner have decided that the Audi Q5 needs a more aggressive and masculine design and this is the end result which looks great if you ask me. They fitted the SUV with a new bodykit that consists of an NSW grill, rear spoiler, widening wheel arches, roof spoiler, new rear bumper and a roof edging. The car rides on 10×22 Corinche Monza in Diamond Black rims which are fitted with Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta rubbers that measure 265/35R22.

They took the 2.0 TDI S-tronic model and increased the output of the engine to 210 hp (213 PS / 157 kW) and a peak torque of 328 lb.-ft (445 Nm). More power requires bigger brakes and they’ve fitted the Q5 with a beefier Brembo system that has 380 mm brake discs and 6-piston calipers.

In addition, they’ve installed a stainless steel exhaust system that has 100 mm double pipes which are integrated in the rear diffuser. The car is now closer to the ground by 45 mm in the front and 40 mm at the back thanks to the inclusion of a suspension-lowering kit.

As far as the interior cabin is concerned, the Audi Q5 by Senner comes with a lot of carbon and a rear door module that can open the hatch by using a remote control. In addition, there’s also a new center console, new doors and a revised instrument panel.

Porsche Cajun Will Get Powerful Diesel Engine

Porsche Cajun (rendering)

According to our esteemed colleagues from Autocar.co.uk, the Porsche Cajun (aka baby Cayenne) will get a powerful diesel engine from the Audi Q5. We are talking about a V6 3.0-liter unit that produces 309 hp (313 PS / 230 kW) and has a peak torque of 479 lb.-ft (649 Nm), outperforming the current V6 3.0-liter that generates only 247 hp (250 PS / 184 kW) and 406 lb.-ft (550 Nm) of torque.

Aside from the Audi Q5 and the Porsche Cajun, this engine will also be available for the following models from Audi: A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 and the Q7, according to Axel Eisner who is the company’s head of engine development.

Eisner denied the rumors regarding that this power unit will be the foundation for a new lineup of diesel-powered “S” variants, but did admit that Audi is developing an oil-burner 4-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine.

Audi adds eight-speed automatic gearbox to A4, A5 and Q5 this fall

Audi first announced its new eight-speed automatic transmission for the 2011 A8 flagship limousine. After that, the 2011 Q7 refresh has also been confirmed to get the new automatic ‘box.

Now, the company announced that the transmission will also be making its way onto specific A4, A5 and Q5 models as soon as this fall. The 2011 A4 2.0-liter TFSI quattro edition, both in sedan and Avant form, will receive the new gearbox, as well as the 2011 A5 2.0-liter TFSI quattro coupe and cabriolet. The Q5, equipped with the … you guessed it, 2.0-liter TFSI engine will receive the new transmission as well.

At the beginning of fall, two versions of the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine will appear in the Q7 range, replacing the older 3.6-liter V6 and 4.2-liter V8. The new units will also be paired with this gearbox.

Don’t go thinking this will just add to the curb weight of the models or make things worse, as Audi guarantees a better performance, a lower fuel average and, thanks to the compact packaging of those eight gears, no extra weight.

Audi Q5 reportedly getting S and RS performance versions

Normally when you would think about SUVs and crossovers, performance isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. But slowly and surely, carmakers realized that there is such a niche, and decided to stick bigger engines and more accessories on the beefier models, and marketing them successfully.

The latest carmaker set to follow this trend is none other than Audi, as it is rumored that two high performance editions for its Q5 crossover will appear in the near future. Presumably badged the SQ5 and RSQ5, the models will feature under the bonnet a 3.0-liter V6 engine, currently found on the S4 sedan. It is set to offer around 333 HP in the S-badged Q5 and over 400 HP in the RS-badged crossover.

As you would expect, other enhancements to the performance models are rumored, including a new exhaust system, brakes, and suspension. Cosmetic enhancements, like the ones featured above in the Q5 Custom Concept, are likely to be included.

What say you? Are performance crossovers and SUVs a good investment or do they just cater to people with money to burn? Share your thoughts below.

Porsche denies crossover model as it will hurt Cayenne sales

Porsche denies crossover model as it will hurt Cayenne sales

Since the new generation of the Porsche Cayenne SUV was launched a few weeks ago, many people believed that the logical step would be a smaller crossover model, to bridge the gap between the non-sportscar offers of the Stuttgart carmaker.

Now though, it seems that Porsche won’t follow that road, citing the impact the launch of the Audi Q5 crossover had on the sales of the Audi Q7 full-sized SUV. While the Cayenne makes up for almost half of the company’s profits, it seems that the idea of a smaller model won’t open up a new segment and will just fragment the owner base.

As you may remember, Porsche was speculated to have been planning a crossover, presumably named the Roxster, which would appear around 2012-2013. With these new reports though, it seems that the plans were scrapped.

Is Porsche onto something, or will it miss the crossover segment by not launching such a model? Don’t be shy and share your thoughts below.

Audi confirms hybrid Q5 for 2011

Audi has recently released a new press statement in which it highlights its dedication to green technologies. Part of this endeavor will be a hybrid Q5 crossover, which is set to be revealed at the end of 2010, and marketed in 2011.

Even though the German company strongly backs its TDI engine lineup as being the best compromise between regular power options and green living, it seems that a hybrid model would certainly arrive sooner or later.

No concrete details were given about what type of hybrid setup would the Q5 have, but there are chances that the big crossover would use full-hybrid technology. It is also expected that the relatively high price will also make the costs associated with implementing such a tech be recovered sooner rather than later.

What do you think? Will a hybrid Audi Q5 help the carmaker? Leave a comment below.

Audi Q5 custom concept unveiled at the Wörthersee Tour

One of the highlights of this year’s 28th Wörthersee Tour which will take place between May 20-23 in Austria will be the Audi Q5 custom concept, a sporty version of the small SUV created especially for this event. The customized Q5 features a wider track (90 mm more than the production version), a ride height lowered by 60 mm, ceramic brakes, modified air intake and a special Daytona Gray matt paint with red applications on the rims, roof rails, front skirt and rear spoiler. The car’s sporty look is completed by the massive 21 inch 7 twin-spoke wheels.

Under the hood, the Q5 custom concept is powered by the same 3.0 TFSI V6 engine from the S4, but whose power output has been increased from 333 hp (245 kW) to a more impressive 408 hp (300 kW), which means the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

Mileage Marathon to promote Audi diesel models

Audi Mileage Marathon

In their effort to promote their diesel models range, Audi has announced the Mileage Marathon, an event where 27 cars powered by TDI engines will drive across the United States, on the New York- Chicago – Denver – Monterey – Los Angeles route. The marathon will start on October 6th and the cars are Q7, Q5 and A4 models equipped with the 3.0 TDI engine and the A3 with the 2.0 liter TDI engine. This event probably means that Audi is considering more and more diesel powered models for the US market, because until now, the only model announced is the Q7, which will go on sale in the first part of 2009. Fellow bloggers from Autoblog and Autobloggreen will be among the 184 drivers attending the event, so we hope they have a lot of fun!

Audi Q5 S Line announced

After last month the Audi Q5 made its world debut at the Beijing Auto Show, yesterday Audi revealed the S Line version of the crossover which, in our opinion will be a tough competitor in the market, alongside the BMW X3 and the Mercedes Benz GLK.

The S Line version will be sportier and it will have a number of exterior changes, including 19-inch wheels (with optional 20-inch alloys also available), a modified front grille with a matching mesh pattern of air vents around the fog lights.

On the interior, the Audi Q5 S Line has a three-spoke steering wheel wrapped in perforated leather, “S Line” logo on the door sills and brushed aluminium all over the place. The seats are layered in Nappa or Alcantara trim with the S Line logo embroidered on the seats.

Audi Q5 makes world debut

Last weekend, at the Bejing Auto Show, the new Audi Q5 made its world debut. The new crossover from Audi will have a tough competition, in a market where Mercedes Benz also presented the new GLK and the BMW already has the X3. However, Audi made the Q5 sportier than the competition, the car measuring 4.63 meters (15.19 feet) in length, 1.88 meters (6.17 feet) in width and 1.65 meters (5.41 feet) in height.

With its sporty elegance and artfully sculpted forms, the design of the Q5 is perfectly in tune with the character of Audi as a brand. The front end is dominated by expressive headlights on both sides of the large single-frame grille; on request, they can be outfitted with bi-xenon lamps and LED daytime running lights. Viewed from the side, the large wheels and rising edges are especially prominent features.

The sporty look is completed by the large front single-frame grille, the bi-xenon lamps and the LED daytime running lights and, at the rear, the aluminum wraparound tailgate and the taillights which are also available in LED technology. Audi offers three different options for the external trim of the Q5 – black (standard), contrasting color or full paint finish in the color of the car, and two body packages are available as well: the S line exterior package and the alternative off-road style package with underbody protection in the front and back and 19-inch wheels.

Audi Q5 will be available with three engine choices, one petrol and two diesel engines, all turbocharged. The four-cylinder 2.0 TFSI has been entirely redesigned and develops 155 kw (211 hp) and peak torque of 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft). Fitted with this engine, the Q5 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.2 seconds, reaching a top speed of 222 km/h (137.94 mph), while having a fuel consumption of 8.5 liters per 100 km (27.67 mpg).

The first diesel option is the 2.0 TDI, which produces 125 kW (170 hp) and peak torque of 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) and takes the Audi Q5 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 9.5 seconds, peaking at a top speed of 204 km/h (126.76 mph) and having a fuel consumption of 6.7 liters per 100 km (35.11 mpg).

The top of the line is the 3.0 TDI V6 engine, which develops 176 kW (240 hp), with 500 Nm (368.78 lb-ft) of torque available between 1,500 and 3,000 rpm and it takes the Audi Q5 from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 6.5 seconds, accelerating to a top speed of 225 km/h (139.81 mph). On average, the three-liter engine consumes 7.7 liters of fuel per 100 km (30.55 mpg).
