These days, for various luxury models, you’ll be able to order a variety of high end audio systems from brands like Bang & Olufsen or Bose, with an impressive number of speakers.
Audi wants to completely one-up its rivals though, and has revealed a Q7 prototype with not one, not two but 62 speakers!
The model has resulted from a partnership between Audi and Institute for Digital Media Technology. As you can see above, the Q7 now has 5 tweeters, 52 mid-range speakers, 4 woofers and 1 subwoofer, all sprinkled around the cabin of the big SUV.
The audio technology powering the system is wave field synthesis, and is able to delay the impulses sent to speakers in order to truly get the complete experience.
Sadly, media companies aren’t using this technology today, so you’ll have a lot of speakers but not all of them will be used to their full potential.

Almost everyone has and drives a car nowadays. This is why cars are very important for all of us and why we should all be interested in learning as much as possible about them as in this way it will be much easier for us to understand the way in which they function. This type of knowledge will also help us decide easier on the type and model of cars that might be appropriate for us to buy when we might decide to change our old car as we will know what makes a car well performing for the purposes in which we intend to use it. If we know what we want from a car we will be able to find that car.
There are numerous types and models of cars available for us to choose from nowadays and we should be aware of as many such models as possible in order to be able to analyze their specifications and to make the proper comparisons between them so as for us to be able to decide which might be better for us to buy and drive in the end.
Audi cars have also been appreciated by many of those persons who have had the curiosity of analyzing them. There have been presented numerous models of this type of cars in time and from them many of us have also appreciated the Audi Q7 model of cars due to certain specifications presented by them.
Audi Q7 is known to be a full-size crossover type of SUV which has been firstly presented to the public in 2006. It represents the first SUV model of cars presented by Audi. It is considered to have been manufactured by following the concept of car presented by Audi Pikes Peak Quattro and it has been said to be appropriate especially for those interested in driving it off-road but certainly not only.
It as been appreciated by many car fans for its four wheel drive system presenting a differential type of lock as well as an adjustable type of air suspension which makes it appropriate to be used off-road. Some of those who have analyzed it have not appreciated it very much for the fact that it is said to present a very low range type of transfer case.
Audi Q7 has also been very appreciated by some persons for the safety that it has been said to provide to its passengers and not so much by others as it is known to have received only four of the fifth stars considered in the so-called Euro NCAP test which is specially made in order to test the safety of adult car passengers. Anyway, this has been considered to be caused but certain minor mistakes in its design and nowadays it is considered for this problem to have been fixed. In this respect, Audi Q7 is nowadays pretty much appreciated for its safety programs from which an example is represented by the Electronic Stability Program.
There have been numerous versions of Audi Q7 model of cars. Some of the north American models are know to be the following ones: Q7 hybrid, presented in 2005 Q7 3.0 TDI clan diesel presented in 2009, Q7 4.2 TDI manufactured between 2007 and 2009, Audi Q7 V12 TDI presented in 2008, Audi Q7 coastline model from 2008 and others which might also be considered as interesting to be analyzed by those interested in buying a new car or maybe in becoming better informed about various models of cars.

Since the new generation of the Porsche Cayenne SUV was launched a few weeks ago, many people believed that the logical step would be a smaller crossover model, to bridge the gap between the non-sportscar offers of the Stuttgart carmaker.
Now though, it seems that Porsche won’t follow that road, citing the impact the launch of the Audi Q5 crossover had on the sales of the Audi Q7 full-sized SUV. While the Cayenne makes up for almost half of the company’s profits, it seems that the idea of a smaller model won’t open up a new segment and will just fragment the owner base.
As you may remember, Porsche was speculated to have been planning a crossover, presumably named the Roxster, which would appear around 2012-2013. With these new reports though, it seems that the plans were scrapped.
Is Porsche onto something, or will it miss the crossover segment by not launching such a model? Don’t be shy and share your thoughts below.

Police, in the war against organized gangs, usually resort to confiscating what they find, in order to hurt the groups. But the Strathclyde Police, located to the north of Glasgow, Scotland, have taken this practice one step forward, with an Audi Q7 S Line, which they confiscated from a gang and have turned into a bona fide patrol car.
The car was impounded after a raid a few weeks ago, and seeing as how until it will be auctioned off, it was just gathering dust, the police officers decided to have a little fun, on the expense of gang members everywhere. As such, they decorated the Q7 TDI with official livery and are now using it to patrol the streets of the city.
“This is a first for Strathclyde Police, but it certainly won’t be the last,” said Assistant Chief Constable John Neilson in a prepared statement. “As you can clearly see, we are proactively seizing your assets. I would say to the criminals that what you have this week; your houses, your cars – you might not have next week. The hard working, law abiding citizens need to know that we are hurting those involved in serious and organized crime where it matters – their pockets.”
After a few months the car will be auctioned off, as is normal with confiscated goods, and the proceeds will be going to administration efforts for both the police and the community. Overall, this isn’t a bad idea and we’re hoping that the example will be followed by many other departments in the future.

Not content with sitting by the sidelines while BMW is exploiting the coupe SUV (fine, Sports Activity Coupe) market with its X6, Audi is reportedly working hard on the next generation of its popular Q7 SUV, which will see not one, but two body styles.
The first will be a classic 7-seater arrangement like the current Ingolstadt SUV, but the other will follow more aggressive, coupe lines, and will take the fight to the X6. No other details are known right now, except the presumed launch date of 2013.
Seeing as how the Q7 became quite popular, do you think such an endeavor will make sense for Audi? Is the X6′s market segment something exploitable? Leave a comment with your own view on the matter below.

The Audi Q7 has slowly become a very popular SUV among the people who like to do a bit of off roading to their winter cabin but who also want to show off in the city. The new facelifted model has become even more attractive to this type of customers.
That is why the German tuning house B&B has unleashed multiple stage tuning kits for all of the engines available for the new Q7. It has also collaborated with the Belgian firm Caractere to produce some more unique body kits.
Let’s start with the entry-level 3-liter TDI engine, which received a three stage performance kit. The first stage will make the motor generate 280 HP with a torque of 585 Nm. The second, will take its output to 300 HP and a 600 Nm torque, while the stage three kit will offer 325 HP and a torque of 640 Nm.
For customers who opted for the 4.2-liter TDI, the tuning house released a two-stage kit. The first one will output 375 HP with a torque 850 Nm, while the second will take the engine to 400 HP and deliver a torque rating of 900 Nm. The first is pegged at €1,698 while the second will cost €4,950.
Last but most definitely not least, the 6-liter V12 engine will receive another two-stage tuning kit, with the first one costing €2,498 and the second, coming in at a pricier €7,950, which will both take the output to 595 HP with a torque of 1,270 Nm.

Launched back in 2006, the Audi Q7 quickly managed to become one of the taughest competitors in the luxury SUV market, where it has rivals like the Mercedes Benz ML or the BMW X5. And today, the German car maker announced a mid-life facelift for their SUV, which will go on sale later this year, as a 2010 model. The car, beside having new styling, also comes with more fuel efficient engines, including the 3.0 TDI engine, “the world’s cleanest diesel”.
Exterior changes include a restyled front end with new large single-frame radiator grille featuring vertical chrome bars contrasting the black high-gloss finish, restyled bumpers, newly integrated underbody protection with a distinctive ribbed design, new adaptive-light system with U-shaped LED daytime running lights (LED technology is also used for the front blinkers). The rear end features new two-tone finish bumper, the S-shaped aluminium tailgate now has a new 3D shape and LED tail lights. Beside the tailgate, aluminium is also used for the engine hood and the fenders, while Audi also offers an optional aluminium package which features chrome bars in the bumpers and door molding, the lower part of the bumpers painted in the body color and the center part of the front apron and the diffuser painted in a contrasting shade.
The interior features a set of improvements such as the redesigned instrument cluster with large instruments encircled by metallic frames, interior lights have been fitted in the door linings, plus chrome used to highlight some of the control elements. Another new features is represented by the seatbacks in the second row, which now are divided into three fold-down sections to provide a level cargo floor.
Under the hood, the Audi Q7 facelift comes with a selection of six engines, two gasoline and four diesels. The smallest engine is a 3.0 TDI, “the world’s cleanest diesel”, which delivers 240 hp (176 kW) and 55 Nm of torque, while returning a fuel consumption of only 9.1 liters/100 km (25.85 US mpg). The top of the range powerplant is the V12 TDI unit with delivers 500 hp (368 kW) and 1,000 Nm of torque and take the massive SUV from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds, up to a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) and achieves an average fuel consumption of 11.3 liters/100 km (20.82 US mpg).
Overall, a good mid-life upgrade for the successful Q7, which will probably manage to remain on top until the next generation will be rolled out.

In their effort to promote their diesel models range, Audi has announced the Mileage Marathon, an event where 27 cars powered by TDI engines will drive across the United States, on the New York- Chicago – Denver – Monterey – Los Angeles route. The marathon will start on October 6th and the cars are Q7, Q5 and A4 models equipped with the 3.0 TDI engine and the A3 with the 2.0 liter TDI engine. This event probably means that Audi is considering more and more diesel powered models for the US market, because until now, the only model announced is the Q7, which will go on sale in the first part of 2009. Fellow bloggers from Autoblog and Autobloggreen will be among the 184 drivers attending the event, so we hope they have a lot of fun!

Announced last year, now we have a new video and more details released about Audi’s latest product, the Audi Q7 V12 TDI. V12 engines are not something new, but this is the first time a 12-cylinder diesel is presented on a passenger car. The 6.0 liter engine develops 500 hp (368 kW) and 1,000 Nm of torque (737.56 lb-ft) and is mated to a six-speed tiptronic transmission. Equipped with these, the car achieves some really impressive numbers: 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds, an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph) and 11.3 liters/100 km (20.82 US mpg) average fuel consumption, which is sounds really good, considering the car’s size and performances.

To mark the launch of the alliance between Audi and the Austrian ski resort St. Anton, three Audi Q7 models were presented to resort’s representatives: “We are very much looking forward to cooperating together, and hope to inspire our visitors with our common passion for winter sport,” remarks tourism board director Martin Ebster. The Audi models will in future form the official St. Anton fleet that will take the town’s representatives to trade shows and accompany them at local crowd-pulling events. In return, St. Anton will strengthen Audi’s presence in the province with advertising space as well as an interactive installation in the heart of the town.
Over the coming months, community and sponsor have a host of events in store. There is the “Legends on the Arlberg” series, for example, in which celebrities whose roots are in St. Anton will meet key figures from Audi’s past. This will include the proprietor of the “Arlberg Hospiz” and hotelier extraordinaire Adi Werner encountering with Audi motor racing legend Hans-Joachim Stuck.
