Bentley planning a five-door Continental to rival the Panamera?

Bentley planning a five-door Continental to rival the Panamera?

Luxury carmakers are all about niches and filling them if the demand is high enough. The newest fad has been started by the Porsche Panamera, and is already followed by the likes of Aston Martin, with the Rapide.

But Bentley isn’t too far behind either, as a source has confirmed to Autocar that other body styles, besides the sedan, coupe and convertible, are being planned for the next generation Continental model.

According to the source, a five-door fastback, in the vein of the Panamera, has the biggest chances to achieve production status, seeing as how more and more people want an extra dose of practicality with their luxury.

Wheelsandmore presents tuned Bentley Continental Ultrasports 702

Wheelsandmore presents tuned Bentley Continental Ultrasports 702

The Bentley Continental is one might impressive luxury sportscar. But seeing as how its top of the range version, the Supersports, ‘only’ extracted 620 HP from that massive W12 6.0-liter engine, the tuners at Wheelsandmore decided that a few upgrades might be in order.

So, after a bit of tinkering and adding things like an optimized ECU, a new exhaust system, a set of 21-inch, 3-piece modular wheels plus an electronically-adjustable suspension, the Bentley Continental Ultrasports 702 was born.

The new British luxury sportscar now develops a whopping 702 HP with 650 lb-ft of torque. Together with the other bespoke features, we’re pretty sure this package from Wheelsandmore will attract quite a few performance fans, not happy with the stock Supersports.

Bentley unveils special edition Continental models for China

Bentley unveils special edition Continental models for China

As any self-respecting luxury carmaker, Bentley knows most of its money is currently coming from China and just revealed two special editions based on its Continental lineup for the Asian country at the Beijing Motor Show.

First off, four-door lovers will be able to enjoy the Continental Flying Spur Speed China, which, alongside a more elegant trim line and accessory lineup, saw its exhaust system toned down and received a softer suspension. Still, this doesn’t stop Bentley from hyping up the model as the “world’s fastest luxury four-door saloon.”

Bentley adding Flex-Fuel W12 engine across Continental range

Bentley adding Flex-Fuel W12 engine across Continental range

Bentley was extremely proud that its Continental Supersports was named one of the greenest cars in Germany, due to it being 85% recyclable, and has just announced that it will be adding the flex-fuel W12 engine from the Supersports coupe and convertible across the entire range of Continental models.

In case you didn’t know, the special 6.0-liter W12 engine in the Supersports can run on regular gasoline, as well as E85 bioethanol, or any mix between the two. Starting this July though, the British company announced that all Continental models, almost half of its vehicle lineup, will sport this capability.

This really helps the company’s plan of reducing CO2 fleet emissions by 15 percent until 2012. The only remaining models to run on petrol alone are the Brooklands coupe, Azure sedan and the new Mulsanne. But it will soon change, as the Brooklands is approaching the end of its life cycle and, according to the company, the Mulsanne will also receive a bioethanol version in the future.

Overall, if you want to flaunt your wealth and be green (not the Lambo variety), the new Bentley Continental models will certainly be a good idea.

Bentley presents 2011 Continental Supersports Convertible

Bentley has just announced the 2011 Continental Supersports Convertible model, which will be formally presented at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. The car is the company’s fastest four-seat convertible and the most powerful open top model it has ever made.

You and three of your friends will be able to sprint from 0 to 62 mpg in 3.9 seconds, and reach 202 mph while feeling the wind in your hair in this new car.

Another feature from the regular Continental Supersports included in the convertible is the ZF six-speed automatic transmission, which feeds all four wheels on a 60:40 bias to the rear ones. Said wheels are use 20-inch, 10-spoke rims, shod in performance Pirelli tires.

Onyx reveals tuned Bentley Continental Platinum GTO

Onyx reveals tuned Bentley Continental Platinum GTO

The Bentley Continental GT is a pretty powerful luxury sportscar, but considering it houses a massive W12 engine under its hood but develops “just” 533 HP, the tuning company Onyx had a go at taking its output to proper supercar levels.

As such, it has revealed the Continental Platinum GTO, which includes not only the visual makeover you can see above and below, but also a wide array of performance modifications, that take the power ratings from the aforementioned 533 to around 640 HP.

No concrete details about the changes were given, but you can still enjoy that power with mods like a lowered ride height, 22-inch wheels coated with a matte black paint job, as well as a body kit with a new, LED daytime lights-enabled front bumper, side skirts, wider wheel arches, carbon fiber splitter, trunk lid spoiler and, par for the course, a rear diffuser.

For those who can’t wait to customize their Continental GT (honestly, who doesn’t?) the tuning package will be available starting next month.

Video: Maybach 62 trades paint with Bentley Continental in Russia, repairs to cost as much as a new car

Video: Maybach 62 trades paint with Bentley Continental in Russia, repairs to cost as much as a new car

Let’s say you’re a rich Russian man. After years of being forced to blend in and drive some awkward cars, capitalism has brought forth a wide selection of luxury vehicles, like the Bentley Continental or the Maybach 62.

But when it snows, leave those cars in the garage and just use the spare change for an SUV or something, and prevent incidents like this recent one, where a Continental and a Maybach have traded paint due to slippery road conditions in Russia’s capital, Moscow.

No major damage was caused, but you can clearly easily say that the repairs on both vehicles will cost as much as a new reasonable car. Hit the jump to see a video of the Russian news filming the aftermath.

Bentley Continental Supersports found to be 85% recyclable, one of the greenest cars

Bentley Continental Supersports found to be 85% recyclable, one of the greenest cars

Who says you can’t have a whopping W12 engine under the hood and not save the planet at the same time? Certainly not the engineers at Bentley, which after modifying the huge engine of the fastest model from the UK carmaker, the Continental Supersports, to run on E85 biofuel, has been rated by the German Motor Transport Authority as 85% recyclable.

The rating is a tough one to get, and very few luxury or performance models have managed to attain it. As it was expected, Bentley hasn’t missed the occasion, and already released a statement highlighting the positive rating.

“Producing the fastest Bentley was a challenge in itself,” revealed Dr. Arno Homburg, Head of Whole vehicle Development at Bentley Motors. “However, we were equally determined not to sacrifice any environmental aspect in pursuit of this goal. The result is the paradox that the most extreme Bentley ever, is also the greenest.”

The Continental Supersports, as I’ve said, is powered by a massive W12 6.0-liter engine, which develops 630 HP and 800 Nm of torque, while running on petrol, E85 biofuel or any combination of the two liquids, which effectively reduces the CO2 emissions by a whopping 75%.

Bentley preparing three-door shooting brake and crossover models?

Bentley preparing three-door shooting brake and crossover models?

It seems that the team at Bentley is quite busy these days, as it has just released the Mulsanne, which will be the base for the replacements of the Brooklands and Azure, is preparing to revamp the Continental lineup, and, according to a new report, may also be researching two new cars, a three-door shooting brake and a crossover.

First off, the three-door model will sit below the Continental, and try to please the $100-130,000 price range with performance fitting of a Bentley sportscar. The second however, is a bit tricky, as it won’t be a crossover model per-se, like an Audi Q5, but more along the lines of the Allroad models from the German company, as the Bentley chief is Franz-Josef Paefgen, former Audi man which backed up the Allroad and hated the Q7.

Both models will share a lot of things with the new platform which will be used on the Aud A6 and upcoming A7 models, as well as the 4.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which generates around 550 HP that will be transmitted to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

While nothing is for certain, it would be quite interesting to see such models from Bentley. I wonder what Rolls Royce will be planning to counter these new cars. What do you think about Bentley’s plans? Leave a comment with your views.

The Bentley Continental Supersports goes around the Nurburgring with former racer Derek Bell

Bentley is trying harder and harder these days to show that it can also do sports cars and grand tourers, not only big fat limousines for people who aren’t in a hurry to get somewhere. That is why it has unleashed the new Continental Supersports on the famous German track the Nurburgring.

But the company didn’t unleash it on its own, as former racing champion Derek Bell took the wheel of the new supercar and really showed the skills that made him famous years ago. Enjoy the video below.

Bentley thinking about Continental Supersports Cabrio version

Bentley thinking about Continental Supersports Cabrio version

While it has recently revealed that its newest Mulsanne limousine will receive plenty of body versions, it seems that the UK-based manufacturer Bentley is thinking about creating yet another version of its popular Continental supercar.

Based on the Supersports versions, this new model will be a convertible, and be adequately named the Bentley Supersports Cabrio. Aimed at people who want the best performance out of the Continental but also the wind to blow throw their hair, this version is set to be the most expensive one.

Presumably it will be equipped with a hard top roof and powered by the big W12 6-liter engine which develops 621 HP. Extras like ceramic brakes and weight saving options like the removal of the back seat are also expected next year, when it is rumored that the model will be unveiled and launched on the market.

Hamann Imperator based on the Bentley Continental GT Speed

German tuner Hamann turned its attention to one of the most ‘tuned’ cars around, the Bentley Continental GT Speed. The package, called Hamann Imperator, consists of a new body kit, performance upgrades and set of exclusive modifications for the interior.

The body kit features a completely redesigned front fascia with larger air inlets and LED daytime running lights, large extensions at the front and rear wings (makes the car 70 mm wider), new Hamann side skirts and at the rear we have a spoiler and an integrated diffuser rear skirt. The car’s aggressive look is completed by new Anniversary Race Anodized with high-gloss polished rim flange and black anodized rim star, available in 22- and 21-inch sizes.

Under the hood, by modifying the ECU and by adding a sports end muffler with oval stainless steel end pipes, Hamann managed to squeeze 40 hp and 90 Nm more from the 600 hp W12 engine, which translates into a top speed increased by 5 km/h. The interior features a newly designed 3-spoke sport steering wheel, new Hamann upholestry with carbon fiber inserts and personalised floor mat.

Biofuel powered Bentley to debut in Geneva

With a little more than a month left until the Geneva Motor Show starts, Bentley has announced today that one of their stand’s starts will be what they call their fastest and most powerful production car ever. Of course, that’s interesting, but not that interesting, you might say. But that’s not all. The car, named “Extreme Bentley” so far, will run on biofuel. That’s about all the details the British company has released, but considering the current most powerful Bentley is a 600 hp beast, we can only dream about what the Geneva car will be like. And about the biofuel part, the guys from Autoblog expect to see an ethanol adapted version of the twin-turbocharged W12 that powers the most powerful Bentley in production.

And for all our US readers who won’t probably make it to Switzerland to the Geneva Motor Show, don’t worry, the car will be on display at April’s New York Auto Show, so you too will be able to admire the beauty.

Bentley Continental GT ‘TETSU GTR’ tuning by ASI

Japanese tuning company ASI has a record of very flashy and impressive tuning programs for Bentleys. We saw their versions of the GT Speed and the Continental GTC and now it’s the Continental GT’s turn to meet the ASI engineers and designers. And we really don’t know what to write about first, the ‘Pimp my ride’ style body kit or the 800 hp engine.

The TETSU GTR (that’s what they call it) will be on display at this year’s SEMA and it was designed by artist Tetsuei Nakamura, who also worked on luxury hotels, for example. The exterior has received an ultra wide body kit finished in two-tone carbon fiber and Fujiyama matte white color, 22 inch black forged wheels and LED lights, while the interior fetures car seats and floor mats fashioned in the Nishijin weaving legacy. Like we said, the engine now delivers 800 hp, thanks to the enlarged turbo turbines, ECU upgrade, new exhaust system and improved cooling methods.

To be honest, there’s not much we can say about the car, we’re kinda speachless, so we’re gonna let the pictures do the talking.

Bentley Continental GTC aero kit by ASI

Bentley is becoming more and more a tuner favourite brand, after projects based on their cars by Mansory or MTM the Japanese tuning firm ASI decided to tackle the Bentley Continental GTC. After their previous kit made for the Bentley GT Speed, they decided to take their expertise on the luxury convertible and the result is quite amazing.

ASI stand for Accuracy Spirit Imagination, and they really tried to implement those principles in the kit they developed. Carbon fiber is the name of the game in the composition of this kit, being implemented in the lip fitted to the front bumper spoiler, on the lip for the rear bumper and in a discreet boot spoiler. Other modifications made were the LED daytime running lights, side skirts and the 22-inch wheels. But enough talk, check out more photos after the jump. (more…)
