The German automaker is trying to promote the upcoming M5 through any ways possible and their latest advertising scheme is this M5 Nurburgring taxi which they’ve unveiled last week at the M Festival in Germany. Aside from the special livery, the car is just about the same as the one we’ll be seeing on the streets in a couple of months.

As a reminder, the upcoming BMW M5 is powered by a V8 4.4-liter engine that churns out 552 hp (560 PS / 412 kW) and has a peak torque of 502 lb.-ft (680 Nm). This powerful engine is linked to a 7-speed, dual-clutch gearbox that allows the car to do the 0-62 mph sprint in only 4.4 seconds, 0-124 mph in 13 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 190 mph (305 km/h).

Production Version BMW M5 Spied


During the Shanghai Motor Show last month, BMW brought a concept version of the upcoming M5 and now we have some fresh spy shots with the production model which will hit the dealerships towards the end of this year. The guys over at AutoCar managed to take these photos somewhere near Nurburgring.


It will make its official debut this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show and it will be powered by a 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbocharged V8 engine that generates 552 hp and has a peak torque of 510 lb.-ft, which is 52 hp and 126 lb.-ft more in comparison to the outgoing model that packs a V10 5.5-liter naturally-aspirated power plant.


With this engine, the new M5 will be able to do the 0-60 mph sprint in about 4.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 155 mph (limited just like all “M” models). The German automaker said that the new generation of the M5 will be 25% more fuel efficient compared to the model that it will replace, thanks to the fact that it will feature the company’s EfficientDynamic technologies, like: start/stop function, disengaging alternator and brake energy recuperation.


BMW is also developing an all-wheel drive version of the upcoming M5 in order to satisfy its U.S. clients, where AWD Audi and Mercedes/AMG models are selling very well.


In the United Kingdom, prices should start from around 75,000 pounds.

BMW F10 M5 Engine, Photos Surface The Web

BMW F10 M5 4.4 liter V8 Engine

Thanks to the guys over at M5board.com, we have a couple of pictures with the 4.4-liter V8 engine that will power the highly-anticipated BMW F10 M5. Benefiting from the TwinPower technology, this engine will be linked to a 7-speed double clutch M DCT Drivelogic gearbox, but details regarding the exact output are not certain at the moment.

If we were to believe the latest estimations, the engine will deliver about 567 hp (575 PS / 423 kW) and 531 lb.-ft (720 Nm) of torque. Initially, it was though that the engine would be more powerful than that but it seems that BMW was having problems with the gearbox of the M5. Original reports mentioned a 600 PS power figure, but even in a lower output level than that, it will certainly be a lot more powerful than the V10 in the previous M5 while at the same time being 25% more fuel efficient.

We are all waiting for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September when BMW will finally launch the F10 M5.

4WD BMW M5 Confirmed

The German car manufacturer BMW has confirmed that a four-wheel-drive version of the M5 will eventually be released. The company’s new and highly anticipated rival to the Mercedes E63 AMG was revealed last week at the Shanghai Auto Show, in the form of a concept, packing a V8 twin-turbocharged engine that delivers 552 hp.

BMW refuses to share more information about the car, but we do know that 4WD version is under development, along with a China-only long-wheelbase version. We will have all the information about the M5 later this year after its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, where BMW will bring the production-ready version.

Expect to see greater straight-line performance in comparison to the outgoing generation, along with a 25% improved fuel efficiency, thanks mostly to the new 7-speed Getrag-engineered dual-clutch gearbox, along with a wide array of measures from the company’s Efficient Dynamics portfolio, like the automatic start/stop system, brake energy recuperation, as well as on-demand auxiliary functions for the car’s water pump.

Production-ready BMW M5, Heading To The Frankfurt Motor Show

Despite the fact that the concept version of the BMW M5 hasn’t been unveiled officially, information about the production model has surfaced the Internet this week, from which we’ve learned that we will see the car in all its “M” glory at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Until then, we’ll have to settle with the concept, which should make an appearance later on this month in Shanghai at the local motor show.

30 Minutes Of Delight With The New BMW M5


Here is a long clip with the 2012 BMW M5 prototype where you can see some very soothing static shots and hear the commentary from test drivers Frank Lutz and Bernd Limmer. According to various rumors, the German automaker will launch the M5 Concept at a private press event near Munich on April 1st, followed by its public debut at the Shanghai Motor Show which will occur in a few weeks.

Next BMW M5 F10 gets its exterior and interior spied

The next BMW M5 performance sedan (the F10 generation) has been a long time coming, especially as how the current M5 is no longer in production.

We saw some camouflaged photos a while back, but now, thanks to an eagle-eyed spy photographer, both the exterior and the interior of the next BMW M5 have been revealed.

As you can see, the new M5 will feature a more aggressive take on the design of the current 2011 5 Series, while its interior has leather upholstery, Alcantara on the headline as well as aluminum trim and red needles in all of the dials.

The BMW M5 F10 will be powered by the same twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 from the X5 M and X6 M, upgraded to deliver around 592 HP.


BMW M5 E60 production ends, 2011 BMW M5 F10 arriving soon

As soon as BMW officially revealed the 2011 5 Series F10, hardcore fans eagerly awaited the announcement of the next generation M5 F10, which would replace the current M5 E60.

Now, we’re one step closer to the next generation, as BMW has announced that the current M5′s production has come to an end.

The M5 E60, presented in 2005, has achieved impressive sales, moving 20,548 units in the five years it’s been with us. It was powered by a massive 5.0-liter V10 engine, capable of 507 HP, and although it suffered from the controversial Bangle design, it still impressed a lot of people.

The 2011 M5 F10 has been rumored for quite some time now. All we know is that it will use the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine from the X5 M and X6 M, but will be upgraded to develop somewhere around 560 HP and 530 lb-ft of torque.

Controversial styling and all, we’ll still miss the BMW M5 E60. Hopefully the M5 F10 will more than make up for the departure of its predecessor.


2011 Alpina B5 revealed, previews future BMW M5

Alpina has had a long and steady connection with BMW, modifying a lot of the cars made by the Bavarian manufacturer.

After showcasing the Alpina B7 for North America, the company has now revealed, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Alpina B5 model, based on the 2011 BMW 5 Series.

The model, set to rival the next generation BMW M5, uses the same twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine currently available on the X5 M and X6 M. The unit produces 500 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque in the B5, capable of taking it from 0 to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds and up to 191 mph.

That massive engine is combined with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. Even though it might not sound like it, the Alpina B5 is pretty economical, achieving 21.7 mpg (US) on the EU combined cycle and emitting around 252 g/km of CO2.

No pricing has been revealed, and as of yet, it will appear in fall in the UK. Until then, check out the photo gallery below with this performance machine.

Nowack Motors presents 708 HP BMW M5

The current BMW M5 has definitely won over a lot of people, thanks to its massive naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V10 engine, capable of a stock 509 HP.

Seeing as how the car is soon set to be retired, being replaced by a new M5, based on the 2011 BMW 5 Series, tuning company Nowack Motors decided to give it a fond farewell.

The result is the BMW M5 N635S 5.8 Hans Nowack Edition (that’s a mouth full), capable of a whopping 708 HP, without the use of any methods of forced induction, be it a turbocharger or a supercharger.

Instead, a simple ECU reflash plus the addition of two upgraded air collectors, custom made by Nowack, are responsible for the power increase of the V10 engine.

Better yet, especially for bargain hunters, the engine upgrade package from Nowack comes with a 12-month warranty, without any distance restriction, so you can hoon it all you want, or at least until the F10 BMW M5 appears.


Future BMW M5 confirmed to get twin-turbo V8

While the 2011 BMW 5 Series is mighty attractive and promises to once again make people interested in the mid-size sedan, many people are still eagerly awaiting the premiere of the 2011 BMW M5 performance version, scheduled to debut later this year.

Until then, BMW M Division boss, Dr. Kay Segler, confirmed that the next super-sedan from the company will house the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine, like in the X5 M and X6 M.

As you know, the naturally-aspirated V10 in the current M5 was heavily rumored to be retired for the next generation, so Segler’s confirmation comes to almost no surprise.

While the twin-turbo V8 currently cranks out 555 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque in the sporty SUVs, you can be certain that the Bavarian engineers are going to push it to its limits in order to squeeze out more and trump their rivals.

New 2011 BMW M5 details revealed, no touring variant planned

Many people eagerly awaited BMW‘s announcement of the new F10 5 Series sedan (pictured above), which occurred at the end of November, last year. But once that generation was announcement, focus immediately shifted to the high performance M5 model of the new generation, which will appear in 2011.

Even though quite a few details were floating around the Internet, CAR magazine has brought forward a pretty believable list of attributes that the F10 M5 might have. The current M5′s V10 engine will be swapped with a smaller 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, which is already employed in the X5 M, and will develop 578 HP, with 531 lb-ft of torque. This translates in a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) time of 4.4 seconds, faster by 0.3 than the current generation,

CAR also says that the new M5 will be 30% more efficient, with fuel average expecting to hit around 24 mpg, partly thanks to a lighter weight but also to the Efficient Dynamics systems employed. Rumors also peg a KERS (brake energy recovery system) to be employed on the new M5.

Sadly for performance-loving family men, the new M5 won’t come in a wagon variant, as the Touring edition was reportedly axed from the product plant.

Do bear in mind that these are still rumors, and until the end of 2010, we won’t know anything concrete about the 2011 F10 BMW M5.


New details on the 2011 BMW M5 appear

While it is still held in high regard, the current generation BMW M5 is nearing the end of the 5-Series’ life cycle, meaning that the M division is already working hard with the next iteration of the performance saloon. Talking to Autocar, the development director of the M division, Albert Biermann, revealed quite a lot of interesting details.

First off, as you might have guessed, the biggest change is dropping from a naturally aspirated V10 to a turbocharged V8 engine, already employed on the M-badged models of the X5 and X6 SUVs. The reasoning behind this “blasphemy” is the new strategy to cut fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, the Efficient Dynamics one.

“We’ve been forced to switch to an engine offering greater low-end torque than the naturally aspirated engine to ensure it can cope with the longer axle ratio,” Biermann said. “It’s the only real way we can balance achieving the environmental improvements we want while retaining similar levels of performance to today’s car.”

Don’t go thinking that this will mean a drop in performance for the new M5, codenamed F10M, as the engine develops on the SUVs around 555 HP, and according to Biermann, the torque will increase from the current generation’s 383 lb-ft (at 6,100 rpm) to almost 500 lb-ft at just 1,500 rpm.

Besides the new engine, the new M5 will also get a new cooling system, in order to dissipate the heat from the new power unit, but also the M3′s 7-speed DCT dual clutch automatic transmission and many weight saving solutions, including a carbon fiber roof and bootlid.

A plethora of many other changes are also prepared, according to Biermann, but we’ll have to wait until the end of 2010/beginning of 2011 to see a production-ready model of the next generation M5. Are you excited about it? Leave a comment below.


Lumma unveils the CLS 730 RS, a massive 730 HP BMW M5

Is the BMW M5, with its 500 HP not satisfying your need for power? Then Lumma Design has just the thing for you, as it has released word of new tuning and performance package for the current generation BMW M5 E60.

Dubbed the CLS 730 RS, it has seen its V10 bi-compressor engine go from the stock performance numbers to a massive 730 HP and 700 Nm of torque. This translates to a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds, reaching 200 in 10 seconds, 300 in 29.5 and topping out at 367 km/h (228 mph).

Of course, all of this power needs to be contained, so the team added a custom braking system using 405mm discs, with six pistons at the front and four at the rear. Covering the discs will be a set of lightweight three-piece 21-inch forged wheels, which sticks the car closer to the road after it has been lowered by 45mm.

Other options in the CLS 730 RS package are a carbon fiber boot and bonner, door handles, entrance sills, fenders and the casings of the mirrors. The exhaust system was also replaced, as well as the stock interior, which now sees materials like carbon fiber, leather and suede.

Overall, this crazy M5 is definitely something only true enthusiasts would want, if you’re looking for something less powerful, then Lumma can equip you with a 530 HP CLR 500 RS tuning kit.

BMW M5 CSL revealed, it just won’t be sold

BMW has revealed that it will make a M5 CSL version, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the performance saloon. But sadly, before you pop out that champagne and let loose all of the women, the company revealed that it will not be made available to the public, being revealed as “the M5 CSL we never built,” by the head of development from the M division, Albert Biermann.

Here are the many changes that the company made to the M5, which makes it “comfortably faster than the stock M5.” First off, the 5-liter V10 has been tweaked and enlarged, nor displacing 5.5-liters and becoming the biggest engine featured by an M model. Other modifications made to it include a carbon-fober manifold and a secondary oil cooler, which now requires an extra air duct in place of the usual license plate support. All of these tweaks to the engine makes the stock figures, 407 HP and 348 lb-ft seem insignificant, as Biermann placed the new figures around 580 HP and 400 lb-ft of torque.

The power is fed to the back wheels thanks to a more powerful edition of the M3′s seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which can be operated via paddles or push-pull gear lever, replacing the old sequential 7-speed manual one

It wouldn’t be a CSL without going on a drastic diet, meaning that the M division’s engineers installed a carbon fiber roof, saving 50 kg, but also stripped the interior, removing the back seat and replacing the front ones with two carbon fiber ones.

While it is awesome to see such a model, it’s too bad that it won’t be made commercially available to everyone. Hopefully the next generation M5 will more than make up for it.
