BMW still considering X4 crossover, X4 M also a possibility


BMW shocked the automotive industry when it revealed the X6 ‘Sports Activity Coupe’ crossover, creating a whole new niche all for itself.

Now, seeing as how the X6 is surpassing sales estimates and already saw 80,000 units sold this year, the Bavarian company is setting its eyes on the smaller crossover/coupe segment, as highlighted by the recent Range Rover Evoque.

According to Autocar, not only is a regular X4 on the drawing board, but also a performance version of the future model, presumably the X4 M.

The smaller crossover would pack the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder engine that is currently being prepared for the 1 Series M Coupe.

No word yet on when we might see the BMW X4, but if X6 sales will continue to soar, then you can be sure that BMW will put the development pedal to the metal.

G-Power BMW X6 Typhoon RS Ultimate V10 revealed, produces 888 HP


Tuning company G-Power really knows how to squeeze out every ounce of performance from BMW models, revealing a lot of special projects up until now.

But seeing as how the BMW M5 will soon be retired, and with it the impressive 5.0-liter V10 engine, the tuning company decided that something special was needed. As such, G-Power took a regular BMW X6 M, and replaced its 4.4-liter twin-turbo engine with the naturally aspirated goodness of the 5.0-liter V10.

That’s not all though, as the resulting project, the G-Power BMW X6 Typhoon RS Ultimate V10, has seen the engine’s displacement increased to 5.5-liters and the addition of two superchargers. Other modifications include a remapped ECU, special pistons, a new, completely bespoke rear differential, which needs to handle all that power going to the rear wheels (the xDrive all-wheel drive system was also scrapped).


The massive engine is connected to a six-speed manual (no automatic option), which means an output of 888 HP and 642 lb-ft of torque. The new X6 can now sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds, and reach a top speed of 205 mph.

As you can imagine, a plethora of other upgrades were made to the exterior and interior of the car. A new body kit was added to the outside, as well as 23-inch wheels. The inside boasts four individual carbon fiber seats, a sports steering wheel and a new carbon fiber trim.

G-Power will produce just four BMW X6 Typhoon RS Ultimate V10, each with a price tag of €675,000 ($873,085). If that doesn’t strike your fancy, then there are plenty of other packages available from G-Power.

Nowack Motors takes BMW X5 M and X6 M to 715 HP


The BMW X5 M and X6 M are two extremely powerful machines. But even though they develop 555 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque, that still wasn’t enough for the tuners at Nowack Motors, which revealed the newest performance package for the Bavarian SUVs, entitled the N700 4.8.

The main focus of the upgrade work is the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which will see its inner workings completely optimized. This process includes bigger pistons, a new crankshaft, performance connecting rods, larger intake valves and special valve springs. The two turbochargers and the exhaust manifolds have also been upgraded, while the ECU was reprogrammed.

The final result of all these tweaks? An increase of power to 715 HP and 623 lb-ft (845 Nm) of torque. While performance times weren’t given, you can be sure that with the increase in power plus the addition of a sports suspension, performance brakes and 22-inch wheels, wrangling the big SUVs is much more exciting and easier.

Hamann Tycoon Evo M brings 670 HP to BMW X6 M


The BMW X6 has generated a lot of mixed reactions both in the auto industry and among fans of the Bavarian brand. But one segment which absolutely fell in love with the Sports Activity Coupe were tuners, which saw great potential for the big model.

Hamann has revised its tuning package for the X6 M and just revealed the Tycoon Evo M package, which takes the output of the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine up to a Lamborghini Murcileago-like 670 HP and 576 lb-ft of torque. How did it achieve such an increase of 115 HP? Just by recalibrating the ECU and fitting a new high-flow exhaust system. As such, you can sprint in this modified X6 from 0 yo 62 mph in just 4.2 seconds and up to 186 mph, which is quite impressive given the fact that it weights almost 5,250 pounds (2,380 kg).


Besides the big increase in power, the tuning company also released a restyled wide body kit for the BMW X6 M, which includes revised elements like the front and rear fascia, the addition of LED daytime running lights or wider fenders by 60mm. Customers will also be able to order 23-inch forged wheels wrapped in performance tires, as well as a carbon fiber interior trim option.

Video: BMW takes X5 M and X6 M on the ice skating rink


BMW is still quite confident in its X5 M and X6 M performance models, and has just released the third part of its Snow Action web series, in which the cars are thrown around various winter challenges, like drifting, going up and down a hill and now, in the latest video, gaining traction in slippery conditions like ice.

To do this, the company took the two cars on an ice skating rink. The same recipe is also used, with the BMW drivers showcasing the electronic systems of the X5 and X6 M models, which can get traction even on the ice from the skating rink, and then those systems are turned off, and the guys unleash the power of the big SUVs.

Video: BMW proves X5 M and X6 M can go up snowy hills


During the last episode of season 14 of Top Gear, presenter Jeremy Clarkson took the BMW X6 model in a variety of places in order to test it out. One test proved it can’t go up grassy hills, while another showed it can’t even handle properly on snowy roads.

But now, with the second part of its Snow Action series, which features the X5 M and X6 M, BMW has proved Clarkson wrong, and tasked two of its drivers to take the models up and down a certified ski track.

Ironically, the drivers went up the hill by using a typical Clarkson recipe: send all the power of the engine to the wheels and floor it.

Video: BMW X5 M and X6 M drift on snow for educational purposes


You have to love BMW. After releasing the M editions of the X5 and X6 SUV and SAV, the company saw fit to “educate” its drivers in the finer ways of wielding the powerful behemoths (a lesson this guy probably missed).

As such, this video is the first in an educational series, which shows you how to gain control of your SUV if it is drifting on the snow. But while the instructor can say that with a straight face, I’m thinking he and his colleague just wanted to do donuts in the snow with the X5 M and X6 M.

Video: BMW showcases its M Power Meter iPhone app with the X6 M


I’m sure plenty of BMW fans were quite thrilled when we revealed that the Bavarian company has released an M Power Meter application for the iPhone, as it allowed drivers of either a BMW car or not, the possibility to chart their speed, acceleration, forward or lateral G and many other things, for free.

Now, the company released a promotional video, in which the M Power Meter app is running on an iPhone while a driver takes it and a BMW X6 M around the track. While he didn’t reach blistering speeds, it’s a nice demonstration of how the app works. Hit the jump to see the video.

G-Power unveils Typhoon BMW X5 M and X6 M, capable of 600 HP


Performance SUVs, if you’ve seen the last episode of Top Gear, are pretty much useless, but that doesn’t stop tuning companies from having a go at further upgrading their power stats and design.

The last one to do such a thing is G-Power, which went to work on the BMW X5 and X6 M models, and upgraded their twin turbo engines from the stock 550 HP to 600 HP for both of them, with a torque of 700 Nm. The resulting Typhoon models will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a sportscar-like 4.5 seconds, and keep on going well beyond 300 km/h (over 186 mph).

Major enhancements were also made to the design of the two models, which received a new carbon fiber front skirt with much bigger air intakes, a new bonnet made out of a Kevlar and carbon fiber hybrid, wider side skirts from carbon fiber, as well as a rear diffuser which matches the four tailpipes. The X5 M is available with a set of one-piece 23-inch aluminum wheels, while the X6 M gets a three-piece set with the same size, and can also be fitted with 22-inch ones.


As I’m not sure what would anyone do with an X5 or X6 M, I’m not even positive that anyone will opt for the tuning and design package from G-Power, but then again, taste is subjective. What do you think? Leave a comment below.

BMW X6 M and X5 M officially unleashed

After a lot of spy shots previewing the two ‘brothers’ from BMW, the German carmaker finally announced the X6 M and X5 M, two cars which really take the SUV to another level. Both car have a more aggressive bodykit, like all other M models, which besides looking better, also help with the cars’ aerodynamics. But the real interesting stuff happened under the hood, where BMW developed a 4.4 liter V8 which delivers 555 hp (408 kW) from 5,750-6,000 rpm and peak torque of 680 Nm (501 lb.-ft.) available between 1,500 and 5,650 rpm. The M TwinPower Turbo features a common exhaust emission manifold which joins both rows of cylinders and also BMW’s Twin Scroll Twin Turbo Technology. Unfortunately, BMW hasn’t released any details on the cars’ acceleration and top speed, but rumors say that the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint is done in around 4.5 seconds and the top speed will probably be electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph).

BMW has also worked hard on improving the engine’s efficiency, so the new M ‘brothers’ feature the EfficienDynamics techonology, High Precision Injection, Brake Energy Regeneration, on-demand control of the electrical fuel pump, detachable A/C compressor and volume flow-controlled supply of hydraulic fluid to the anti-roll system. All these make the X6 M and X5 M comply with the Euro 5 and LEV II emission standards.

There’s no point in listing all the safety and confort features, you can imagine the new M SUVs are full of those, so we’re just gonna mention a few: crash-activated front headrests, adaptive brake lights, new 20-inch alloy wheels, BMW’s Head-Up Display, High-Beam Assistant, Park Distance Control and a high quality interior with M leather steering wheel and M footrests, Merino leather covering additional surfaces and trim features, M entry trim, interior trim bars in brushed Aluminium Shadow instrument cluster with variable pre-warning field in the rev counter and of course, BMW’s latest generation of iDrive control.

All in one, the X6 M and the X5 M were two very anticipated cars and we bet driving one of these will be a blast (we test drove the X6 a couple of weeks ago – review coming – and it was splendid). And here are some photo of the two cars, and after the jump there’s also a really nice video. Enjoy!
