Preview – 2012 Mercedes C-Class

2012 Mercedes C-Class

We will have to wait for a couple of weeks until the 2012 Mercedes C-Class will be officially unveiled at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. However, we still can offer you some details about the upcoming German model.

Rumors say that the upcoming model will have more than 2,000 new parts compared to the outgoing model and here we include the 7-speed automatic gearbox 7G-Tronic Plus, which will be available for all models (except for the C300 CDI 4Matic) starting with next June. The facelift version will feature a fresh new sport and rear design, better gas mileage and a new V6 power unit.

Customers interested in the new 2012 Mercedes C-Class model will have the possibility to choose from one of the 11 different models. Power will range from the entry-level 120 hp to the powerful 306 hp engine. As standard, the car will come with new halogen headlights and for extra bucks, it can be fitted with Bi-Xenon headlights that feature the Intelligent Light System.

Similar with the latest models launched by the German manufacturer, the 2012 C-Class will come with an active Blind Spot Assist, adaptive cruise control Distronic Plus, Attention Assist and an active lane-keeping assistant. In addition, there is also a new optional telematics system available on the board of the C-Class. The new navigation system will feature a 3D representation of the city, with plastic models and will allow the driver of the car to request a choice of up to five different routes (including here a particularly economical routing).

As we mentioned before, customers can choose from 11 different models, both diesel and petrol. However, the most important update was brought to the C350 Blue Efficiency that will be powered by an all-new V6 gasoline engine, capable of outputting 306 hp and 370 Nm of torque. In comparison to the previous generation, this new engine offers an additional 14 hp of power and 5 Nm of torque which isn’t a lot but still worth mentioning, don’t you think so? Although the engine is now more powerful, it is actually 31% more fuel efficient compared to the older model.

The engines will be linked to either a standard manual 6-speed gearbox or a 7-speed automatic transmission, dubbed 7G-Tronic Plus. All of the 11 models are offered with rear-wheel drive and the now popular start/stop function.

2012 Mercedes C-Class

The car will be available in dealerships in March 2011 and the prices will be announced after the Detroit Auto Show which will be held next month.

The 2012 Mercedes C-Class will have to face some tough competition, like the sexy BMW 3 Series, the Volkswagen Passat as well as the Opel Insignia. From these three, the bimmer looks like the most important rival for the C-Class, but let’s not underestimate the Passat which is a big hit in Europe. The Insigna is not that popular at the moment, but it is slowly and surely gaining terrain with its affordable price tag and great exterior looks.

In comparison to all of these cars, the C-Class was always the most expensive if we look back on the older generations. We are curious to find out what will the price policy be for the 2012 model as the competition gets stronger by each passing day meaning that there are chances of seeing a small decrease in the starting price of the 2012 Mercedes C-Class.

Mercedes Benz CLC spy shots

We’ve showed you spy photos of the next generation Mercedes C Class SportCoupe (check out our previous post, here) and now WorldCarFans presents the latest spy photographs of the car, which will have a new name, Mercedes Benz CLC. We’re not sure about the exact release date of this model, but the word on the street is that it will hit showrooms sometime in 2008. The CLC will be based on the current C Class’ platform and it’s front part is also almost similar to the C sedan. Though its competitors are the BMW 1 Series and the Audi A3, I never saw the Sport Coupe as a direct competitor to these, but more in a class of its own, luxurious and stylish hatchbacks, or something like this. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, one thing’s for sure, I never knew if I like this car or not. What do you think? You can post a comment about this, here.

Mercedes Benz C Class Estate video presentation

We wrote last month about Mercedes Benz getting ready to launch the new C Class Estate. And here’s a nice video presentation of the car where we can see the large and stylish interior in more detail and we are informed that the car will go on sale in December. Enjoy the video and if want to find out more on the car, check out our post on the Mercedes-Benz C Class Estate.

Mercedes Benz C Class SportCoupe gets spied

Here are some spy shots of the next generation of the Mercedes Benz C SportCoupe. We’ve presented some time ago some renderings, but these photos make things pretty clear. The car is camouflaged but we can figure almost every detail of the new car. Like the current generation, the new SportCoupe has the front part of the C Class and the back is very similar in styling with the current generation.

I’ve always found this car weird, in a good way, and I think it’s somehow different to its competition, the BMW 1 Series and the Audi A3. I mean, while these last two are sporty cars, Mercedes’ hatch is very elegant. But I guess we’ll know more when we’ll have some official info from Mercedes Benz.

720 hp Mercedes C-Class tuning by Brabus

Brabus will present a high-performance tunning program for the new Mercedes C-Class at this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show. And if you think it’s name, Bullit, is just for marketing, well, you can’t be more wrong and here are it’s tech specs, to convince you that it really is almost as fast as a bullet.

The 6.3L V12 engine was modified and it now develops 720 horsepower and 974 lb-ft of torque, but it was limited at 811 lb-ft to preserve the tires and gearbox. The super C-Class now sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in only 3.9 seconds, it reaches 200 km/h (124 mph) in 10.49 seconds and it reaches its top speed of 300 km/h (186mph) after 24.5 seconds.

To make all that power as comfortable as possible for the passengers, the Bullit has a revised suspension and braking system. No word so far on how much this tuning program will cost, but one thing’s for sure, it will be a lot.

Later Edit: We found out the price: $475,000 / 348,000 €. So, if you want a high performance sedan at the price of a Lambo or an SLR, start saving.

Brabus presented a power upgrade kit for the Mercedes-Benz C220 CDI, the BRABUS D3 S POWER XTRA. The electronic engine control unit has an integrated injector drive that increases C220′s power output from standard 170hp to more impressive 217 hp and torque from 400 Nm to 480 Nm. With this kit, the C200 CDI goes from 0 to 62 mph (100km/h) in 7.8 seconds and to a top speed of 239 km/h (148 mph).

The BRABUS D3 S POWER XTRA complies with Euro IV emission limits, may be installed by any authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer and is backed by Brabus Tuning Warranty valid for three years. And of course, Brabus couldn’t settle with just a power upgarde, they also made available an aerodynamic kit, suspension modifications, performance brakes and different interior enhancements.

Mercedes C63 AMG

A few days ago Mercedes presented their latest high-performance car, the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG. We know that everything that comes out from Mercedes wearing the AMG badge is among the best plus that I, personally adore the new C Class, but the C63 is really exciting. Powered by an AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine developing a peak output of 336 kW/457 hp and a maximum torque of 600 nm, the car goes from 0 to 100 km/h (60 mph) in 4.5 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).

Beside the outstanding tech specs, the new Mercedes Benz C63 AMG sets itself apart with a new exterior look, featuring the trademark AMG radiator grille with a central star and two louvres with chrome inserts, side air vents, 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels, standard LED rear lights, the AMG rear apron with its black diffuser insert and three pronounced diffuser fins, as well as the AMG sports exhaust system with two chrome twin tailpipes.

The Mercedes C63 AMG will hit showrooms at the start of 2008. View more pics after the jump. (more…)

Mercedes C Sportcoupe preview

Mercedes is currently developing the next generation of C-Class Sportcoupe, which we hope to see at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show. MotorAuthority showed us how this car might look like. The renderings are based on the prototypes seen tested in Sweden this year. Like the current model, the new Sportcoupe range will feature several different 4-cylinder variants but may include new V6 versions as well. The range-topper will be powered by Mercedes’ 272hp 3.5L V6, but we wouldn’t be surprised if a brand new AMG version is released.

No official news so far, so we have to wait for September to see what happens. (more…)

Mercedes B-Class might come to the US

Ernst Lieb, the CEO of Mercedes’ US division spoke to Automotive News and said that the German company thinks about importing the B-Class to the US. This is due to the rising demand for fuel efficent cars in the US, but could only happen starting from 2011, because Mercedes is now focusing on marketing their new C-Class sedan over the next few years.

Another car that could come to the US is an upcoming M-Class little brother, which will most likely be named GLK, but there’s no sure thing about this one, because it isn’t even launched by Mercedes and they don’t know if it would be suitable for the US. (more…)

Carlsson CK35 Tuning For The New Mercedes C-Class

The German tuner Carlsson prepared a tuning package for the new Mercedes C-Class. The engine was modified and now produces 295 hp and presses maximum torque of 385Nm, which takes the Carlsson CK35 from 0 to 100 in 6 seconds and to a top speed of 270 km/h.

Other mods include a front apron, a diffuser-look apron at the rear, side moldings and rear spoiler, an electro-polished front grille, double-headlight units with fog and driving lights. The sport sedan also has lowered sport springs and 19in lightweight alloys. (more…)
