Terry Richardson was the photographer for this Mercedes-Benz shoot meant to promote the company’s Fashion Week. He is known for his fashion works that tend to exploit the sexual side of his models, not rarely Richardson being acused of focusing on the sexual graphics of the pictures instead of highlighting the intended product.
On a closer look at Jessica Stam’s apparel for this photo shoot, the Class-A concept endorses the presence of at least one beatiful woman near the car, even though she may or may not be the driver.

If you are a big fan of Mercedes-Benz but you need to travel over the ocean very fast and you cannot take your S-Class, why not get this Eurocpoter EC145? Its interior has been designed by Mercedes-Benz as a special order from a European customer.
The helicopter was unveiled a couple of days ago at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition 2011 in Geneva. Its interior design was developed in order to emphasize the helicopter’s luxury-class offerings and borrows a lot of design ideas from the German automaker, like the ambient lightning and the use of woods.
Those comfortable seas are fixed onto rails but they can be moved or even removed. In addition, the cabin can be configured so that it could seat up to eight passengers.
Too bad they didn’t say anything about the price… I bet it costs a fortune.

Mercedes-Benz Celebrating 125 Years
On January 29th, 1886, Karl Benz filled the patent for his “vehicle with gas-engine drive.” Without any doubt, it is one of the most important days in the history of automotive and with this occasion, Daimler is looking back at that day that happened 125 years ago while at the same time looking into the future of the company.
Daimler is organizing a world tour in order to present the Mercedes cars that are powered by fuel-cells. The B-Class cars equipped with these fuel cells will travel all over the world during an extensive 125-days trip. 125 years later after that patent, the German received another patent for the bi-polar flat-cell frame which is an all-new technological development that will help creating lithium-ion batteries in the future.
With this special occasion, Mercedes decided to celebrate by using art as a method of highlighting the company’s future. Benefiting from the rapid-prototyping technology, the German engineers were capable of quickly making a sculpture that at first it was only a data in a computer. Dubbed Aesthetics 125, this cool-looking piece demonstrates the high level of technological sophistication available today while at the same time giving us a few ideas about the design language of the future.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell
The most interesting car brought by Mercedes at Detroit is the SLS AMG E-Cell. Except this one, the Germans brought a wide range of eco-friendly cars, like the B-Class F-Cell and many BlueTec diesel engines. Getting back to the E-Cell, you probably have already seen this eye-searing yellow paint before. What is interesting about the car, except for the paintwork is the power it packs – 525 hp and a massive 649 pound-feet of torque, all thanks to the four synchronous electric motors. These are installed close to each of the four wheels which means that there will not be any unsprung mass problems of the hub-mount configuration in order to aid the car’s handling capabilities. These four compact electric motors are capable of achieving a maximum rpm of 12,000 rpm.
According to the official press release, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell is capable of doing 0-60 mph in only 4 seconds, similar to the 563 hp 6.3-liter V8 SLS AMG which does it 0.3 quicker. To stop this electric supercar, the Germans fitted it with AMG ceramic composite brakes. The prototype exhibited at Detroit had these types of brakes which will be offered as an optional feature for the standard production model. The carbon fiber-strengthened ceramic measure 15.8×1.5 inches in the front and 14.2×1.3 in the rear and they feature an integral design all around. In comparison with normal brakes, the ceramic discs are 40% lighter. This significant reduction improves agility and handling but also adds a little bit to the grip of the car and the driver’s comfort.
The front apron of the SLS AMG E-Cell has been brought further forward and it now further optimizes the airflow to the underbody of the supercar, reducing downforce and improving wind resistance at the same time. For the exact same purpose, an extendable front splitter was installed which extends towards by 3 inches when the car is running at speeds of over 75 mph. The E-Cell rides on 10-spoke light-alloy rims developed by AMG, covered by 265/35 R 19 tires in the front and 295/30 R 20 in the back.

The model showed at Detroit sports dynamically shaped full-LED headlamps that feature integrated daytime driving lights. The radiator grille of the E-Cell has been updated and is offered with transverse slats unlike the ones found on the normal SLS AMG that have a diamond pattern.

Being an electric vehicle, the interior couldn’t have remained the same as the normal SLS AMG. As a consequence, the AMG instrument cluster as well as the center console received a new design. The first one offers information about estimated range, charge status of the battery and speed. The latter offers a 10-inch touch screen for the navigation, climate and audio functions. In addition, the driver can find more about the flow of power from the four electric motors.
Inside, the driver will find a black/white color combination of the high-quality premium leather. The steering wheel was wrapped in alacantara and leather, similar to the door linings and the broad center console.
The car will be available for ordering sometime next year at a yet undisclosed price.

If you have tons of money and you don’t know what to do with it, here are 11 solutions to your “problem”. The following 11 cars will be auction this month at The Scottsdale Auction, organized by Gooding & Co. There will be a couple of beauties auctioned, like the FXX Evoluzione and the legendary F40. All of the cars were in the possession of Benny Caiola, a man known for his love for Ferraris. Check out some of the cars from his garage:
A good way to spend a good amount of money would be to get this 1973 Dino 246 GTS, a real looker in our opinion. Although it isn’t one of the fastest cars in the world, it sure looks drop dead gorgeous. The idea behind this model was to build an “accessible” Ferrari and it was made by Enzo Ferrari himself, to honor his late son Dino. The car featured a V6 2.4-liter engine that offered 175 hp. There were only 1,274 GTS built. The car in the picture was first sold in California and after that spent a couple of years in Hong Kong and Japan, returning to the US about seven years ago. The car is expected to sell for at least $160,000.
Another Ferrari on the list is the iconic F40 which was a hit from day one. Launched back in 1987, it featured a V8 engine, twin-turbo, capable of outputting 478 hp. It was the fastest car in the world from 1987 and 1989. Ferrari’s initial plan was to build only 400 units, but due to high demand, it rolled out 1,315. This F40 you see in the picture is one of the 213 units that were sold in the United States. The first owner of this beauty was Richard Slobodian. It is almost brand new if you looking at the odometer which shows only 3,448 miles. The car will probably be sold for at least $475,000.
Looks like Gooding & Co. love Ferraris as they have another one listed, the successor of the F40. Although it wasn’t just as popular as the Enzo or the F40, the Ferrari F50 shared just about all of the F1’s technology available at that time. It was built in order to commemorate the company’s 50th anniversary in 1995. The car had a powerful V12 4.7-liter engine that produced 520 hp and it was based on the F92A F1 racer. Pininfarina was responsible for designing the bodywork and they emphasized on proper handling and optimal downforce. The car will do the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.7 seconds, onto a top speed of 200 mph. The car pictured above is the 38th unit of a grand total of 349 cars the Italian supercar maker produced. Similar to the F40, it is barely driven, only 4,000 miles. It will probably fetch at least $750,000.
Here is something that you don’t see every day, a 1999 Ferrari 333 SP. This one was developed by Dallara and had a carbon-fiber monocoque with a F1-inspired suspension. The 4.0-liter V12 engine, which was mounted right in the middle of the car, offered 650 hp. Introduced in late 1993, this one grabbed 69 pole positions and won 56 races. It will probably sell for about $800,000.
Finally, something that doesn’t have the Ferrari badge, a 2005 Maserati MC-12 that features an F1-inspired suspension, a V12 5.9-liter power unit that unleashes 630 hp; it is the same engine you will find in the Enzo. The car will do 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds, onto a top speed of 205 mph. The company’s initial plan was to build only 25 units, but due to high demand, they made 50 cars. The car in the picture is the 39th one and was only driven for 730 miles. It will probably go for about $1.1 million.
2006 Ferrari FXX Evoluzione
My vision of the ultimate car is the 2006 Ferrari FXX Evoluzione. This one has the Evoluzione Kit, priced at $300,000. With this package, the FXX offers 860 hp in comparison to “only” 790 hp available for the standard version. In addition, the response time of the paddle-shifted transmission has been reduced to only 60 milliseconds. Other updates include improved carbon ceramic brakes, revised traction control and suspension geometry. The body got rear flaps in order to increase downforce and a new rear diffuser. It can be yours if you have at least $2.2 million.
2007 Ferrari 430 Challenge
Here is a car that suffered two crashes during its lifetime – the 2007 Ferrari 430 Challenge. With a 4.3-liter V8 engine that outputs 483 hp, it isn’t a Buick. Caiola crashed it twice, but this doesn’t mean that the car is worthless. On the contrary, it will probably sell for about $125,000.
2008 Ferrari F430 Scuderia
Another 430 – this time the 2008 Scuderia. Michael Schumacher helped out Ferrari’s R&D when they made this car. The car is almost brand new with just 625 miles shown on the odometer. It will probably go for about $225,000.
Something from Germany, the 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR, which Caiola purchased in January 2008 and drove it for only 525 miles. It will be probably sold for $240,000.
2009 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560
Probably the most down-to-earth car from this list is the beautiful 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560. With a 525 hp engine that allows the car to reach 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, I wouldn’t mind driving it for a lifetime… Again another car barely driven showing just 612 miles on the odometer. It can be yours if you are willing to spare about $175,000.
Last but certainly not least, the newest car from this list – the 2010 Ferrari 599 HGTE. In fact, this is a 2008 599 GTB but received the Handling GT Evoluzione treatment last year. With just 237 miles on the odometer, it is almost new. If you are willing to part about $275,000 – it’s yours!
My favorite car from this list is the FXX, but I wouldn’t mind getting the Gallardo which is the “dullest” model from this long list of automotive beauties.

PIECHA Mercedes E Class Convertible
PIECHA Design just revealed their take on the already beautiful Mercedes E-Class Convertible, but unfortunately the car did not receive any extra power, just aesthetic improvements. PIECHA Design is a Mercedes-Benz tuning specialist based in Rottweil and with their latest program, they wanted to give the E-Class Convertible a fresh new look further enhancing the elegant lines of the car.
In the front of the E-Class Convertible, they installed a spoiler lip that supplements the standard AMG styling, increasing the sporty look of the car. At the back, the same successful recipe was applied and the new tail diffuser has perfectly integrated a four-pipe sports exhaust system, replacing the original one developed by Mercedes-Benz. By adding a 3-part spoiler lip on the boot lid, it further increases the beauty of the car and at the same time improves aerodynamics. The new side skirts of the car are now equipped with integrated a LED lightning system, a feature that can be installed on all Mercedes-Benz models, according to the official press release published by the tuner.
As far as the emission control aspect is concerned, the guys over at PIECHA Design installed their own Quadro series system. Their 4-pipe exhaust sub-systems can be fitted for all 4, 6 and 8-cylinder power units, for coupe and convertible models alike. Also available is an exhaust system conversion kit which permits the two oval chrome tail pipe sections to be welded onto the regular sound absorbers.
With this new styling of the Mercedes E-Class Convertible, the engineers installed the 19-inch dp2 Phantom rims. These 8-spoke wheels feature a high-gloss polish stainless steel base and a multi-element look. At the front, the car is equipped with 8.5 x 19-inch wheels wrapped in 235/35 R19 tires while at the back, the E-Class rolls on 9.5 x 19-inch rims covered by 275/30 R19 tires.
PIECHA Mercedes E Class Convertible
For the convertible model and also for other cars produced by Mercedes-Benz that have an electronic accelerator, PIECHA offers a power convertor that is capable of fully canceling out any sort of slow reaction time. With this system, the car is able to accelerate more powerful even when it is at an idling speed. The system has a separate control that can be switched between standard mode, sports mode and urban-driving mode. In addition, the system features a potentiometer which allows the driver to tweak the system in order to adapt it to match the particular type of vehicle as well as the driving style.
For the roof, PIECHA installed the Vario module, a simple plug-and-play solution for the Mercedes E-Class Convertible. With this module, the driver of the car has the ability to open or close the roof of the E-Class while driving at speeds of up to 50 km/h, using only the standard key, without the need to hold the switch or car key pressed all the time.

Mercedes S250 CDI
Over 60 years have passed since the last 4-cylinder engine powered an S-Class model from Mercedes. This decision was made in order to keep in touch with Audi and BMW’s “green” tendencies. By doing so, Mercedes-Benz is the first of the world’s largest luxury automakers that installs such a small power unit into a top-of-the-line model. In order to fulfill the emission standards and get customers that care about the environment, luxury car producers are at the moment flaunting their environmental credentials. Mercedes doubled its investment on “green” development this year, reaching 1 billion euro. BMW also spent 1.2 billion euros in various fuel-saving technologies.
The German engineers are aiming to maintain the traditional S-Class performance even with this small power unit. The MB S250 CDI will be available for sale in the first months of next year and will have a 2.2-liter diesel power unit that will output 204 hp and a 500 Nm torque at 1,600 rpm. The Germans affirmed that the high torque at low engine speeds is a consequence of the two-stage turbocharging and that the engines’ torque numbers are equal to a six-cylinder diesel engine.
The S250 CDI will come as standard with the stop-start technology and will have a fuel consumption of only 5.7 liters / 100 km and 149 g/km CO2 emissions, allowing the car to be the first luxury model to consume under 6 liters / km and at the same time maintain the CO2 emissions below the 150 grams level.
The Mercedes S250 CDI Sedan has a 2-ton weight and even though it has a small engine it is capable of reaching a top speed of 149 miles (240 km) and it will only need 8.2 seconds to reach 100 km per hour. However, these figures pales when we look at the S65 AMG that needs 4.4 seconds to sprint to 100 km/h, but the AMG model not only it is costs more than three times, but it has double CO2 emissions.
Verena Mueller is a spokesman for Mercedes and recently stated that “green luxury is feasible. We expect to attract environmentally conscious customers who are seeking the lowest possible CO2 emissions. Besides private customers, that could of course also be fleet buyers.”
Mercedes S250 CDI
This decision of reducing the size of engines is also a direct consequence to the financial and economical crisis, which reduced the demand in the United States for high-end automobiles and at the same time, cut lots of jobs. On November 3rd, the CEO of BMW, Norbert Reithofer affirmed that the United States luxury car sales will maintain a level similar to the one before the crisis, most likely until 2013-2014.
By introducing smaller engines, cars of course become cheaper and keep buyers from purchasing less-expensive model lines. This new S250 CDI model from Mercedes-Benz will be directed primarily for the European market and will cost 3,700 euros less than its bigger brother, the V6-powered S-Class. However, the car will still be 27,400 euros more expensive in comparison with the E-class base model.
Unlike Mercedes, BMW will not be launching a 4-cylinder engine for their 7-Series flagship model. Reithofer said that “I like selling 7-series cars with six- and eight- cylinders.” However, BMW is looking towards the future with their production version of the Vision Efficient Dynamics concept car which will be available for sale starting with 2013. The 4-person sports car will combine a 3-cylinder engine with two electric motors which will allow it to sprint to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The car will have CO2 emissions similar to the most efficient VW Golf 6 – 99 grams CO2 / km.
Audi will do something similar like Mercedes Benz, developing a version for their flagship A8 model that will use a 4-cylinder gasoline power unit, but this time combined with an electric motor. The A8 hybrid will be launched sometime in 2012 according to Eric Felber, Audi’s spokesman. Before the arrival of this new model, Audi will roll out more fuel-efficient cars, like a front-wheel-drive A8 model that will have a 6-cylinder diesel engine and will be available at Audi’s dealerships early 2011.
Most likely, the most buyers of the Mercedes S250 CDI will come from countries like the Netherlands, United Kingdom and France; countries that will be rising the automobile taxes based on the carbon-dioxide emissions.

The LA Auto Show is about to start and we already have a lot of interesting premieres announced and here comes another one, from Mercedes Benz. The German carmaker announced the debut of the new CLS 63 AMG, the high performance version of their recently introduced CLS. Compared to the ‘regular’ model, the CLS 63 AMG got a modified body kit, featuring a new front grille, new hood, modified bumper, rear diffuser and LED daytime running lights, plus a set of 19-inch alloy wheels.
Under the bonnet, the new CLS monster is powered by a biturbo 5.5-liter engine which delivers 518 hp (386 kW) and 516 lb-ft (699 Nm) of torque, which paired to the seven-speed Speedshift MCT transmission takes the car from stand to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and up to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). For power freaks, Mercedes also offers an optional AMG Performance Package which increased the power output to 550 hp (410 kW) and 590 lb-ft (799 Nm) of torque, 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds and top speed of 186 mph (299 km/h).
The pricing hasn’t been released yet, but we’ll probably find it out closer to the market release date, which is scheduled for the summer of 2011.

Mercedes are currently working very hard on the next generation SLK and to prove that they released a set of picture with prototypes being tested in Death Valley, United States. With these photos, they also released a teaser photo with the nee SLK’s panoramic roof. Nice, but nothing spectacular so far, right? Well, Mercedes is actually very proud of this roof, because it features what they call Magic Sky Control, an option which will be available for 2,000 euro ($2,772) and which can make the roof either transparent or darkened, only by pushing a button. We’re not very good at chemistry, but Mercedes said the technology features some special particles in the glass roof which react to electrical voltage. Also, they mentioned their Death Valley testing showed that the temperature in the interior is 10 degrees Celsius lower than with traditional green glass panoramic roofs.
No official dates so far, but we’re expecting the next generation 2012 Mercedes Benz SLK to debut next year at the Detroit or Geneva motor shows, with sales starting later next year.

Misha Designs is an Los Angeles-based company specialized in Porsche tuning but recently they turned their attention to other brands like Mercedes or BMW and now have presented a widebody package for the Mercedes Benz SL, which provides the car with a Black Series look. The body kit features a redesigned front bumper with lower carbon fiber lip spoiler, larger openings, wider fenders, new hood with carbon fiber slats, new side skirts and wider rear fender flares and a new rear bumper with carbon fiber gills and a carbon fiber diffuser.
The kit is available for all SLs from 2003 onwards and it comes as a direct bolt for 2009 and newer models, while also allowing pre-2009 SL owners to convert their cars to the facelifted SL.

The SLR 722 Edition is powered by a V8 engine delivering 640 hp (480 kW) and 820 Nm (600 lb-ft) of torque and it features 19-inch black light-alloy wheels, upgraded lowered suspension, larger front brakes, a revised front air dam and rear diffuser and red “722″ badges.
Pricing is a little high, but you have to consider the car has less than 1,000 miles on the odometer and it also has Mercedes Benz factory warning until August 2011 or 50,000 miles.

Mercedes-Benz USA has announced the pricing for its new models which will debut in the States, including the 2011 CL550 4Matic, the 2011 CL63 AMG Coupe and S63 AMG Sedan. So let’s see what’s new and how much it costs.
The restyled 2011 CL550 4MATIC is available with the new 4.6-liter V8 engine that delivers 429 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque and is available starting with $114,025. The CL will arrive in the United States in November and it will feature bi-xenon headlights with LED turn signals, LED taillights, new steering wheel design, Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist.
Another new engine is the twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter AMG V8 engine, available for the 2011 CL63 AMG Coupe and the S63 AMG Sedan, that delivers 536 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT transmission and pricing for the two cars is $151,125 (CL63) and $138,875 (S63). Customers wanting even more power will also be able to order the AMG Performance Package which increases the power output to 563 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.

In a recent study conducted by Quality Planning, an auto insurance analytics company, Mercedes-Benz SL drivers are the most ticketed drivers in the United States. Not that it comes as a surprise, because the Mercs SL are pretty powerful cars, but what is interesting is that the average age of “violators” is 53 years and almost 60% of them are…wait for it…women! You’d expect a little more responsibility at that age. The full list goes like this:

Despite previous rumors and speculations, it seems that the Maybach luxury limousine brand won’t be axed by its corporate overlords from Daimler.
Instead, the brand will take full advantage of the upcoming 2012 Mercedes-Benz S Class new generation, and will borrow the revised platform, as well as new systems and much more.
According to Automobile, the whole existing Maybach range, including the 57 and 62, will benefit from a restyled exterior, a new interior and many new technologies that will make it worthy of the large price associated with Maybach models.
Also, it seems that the four-door coupe trend will spread to the luxury brand, as a CLS-like model might be added, but with a completely convertible roof, not like the current 62 Laundaulet.
The cherry on top is that Mercedes-Benz is considering adding a small electric motor to the inside of the Maybach, which will turn the limousine into a hybrid, and even allow it to travel a certain distance on just electric power. This would not only help the Maybach become more popular, but also improve its fuel average.
