2012 Subaru Impreza Revealed

2012 Subaru Impreza

At this month’s New York Auto Show, Subaru unveiled the 4th generation of its Impreza model, bringing the 4-door and 5-door variants. The new model has the same exterior dimensions as the outgoing model, but offers a more spacious cabin and better fuel economy. Subaru also said that the new Impreza is more fun to drive; we’ll have to wait and see about that.

2012 Subaru Impreza

The wheelbase of the 4th generation Impreza has grown by 25 mm, while the bottom end of the A-pillar has been extended 200 mm toward the front. In addition, the door structure has been modified and all of these changes have brought more elbow and shoulder space, along with more room for the passengers in the back and the driver now benefits from an improved field of vision. Cargo space has also gone up and Subaru says that in the sedan you can put in four golf bags, while in the hatchback version you can store three.

2012 Subaru Impreza

The U.S.-spec version comes with the company’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system and is powered by the third generation of Subaru’s 2.0-liter boxer engine, which will be linked to either a standard 5-speed manual gearbox or the new Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission.

2012 Subaru Impreza

This new engine produces 148 hp, which is 22 hp less than the previous one; and 145 lb.-ft (197 Nm) of torque. This smaller engine has managed to do 36 mpg in the preliminary in-house tests, which is a record for a U.S.-market all-wheel drive production model. To achieve this figure, the engineers over at Subaru had to implement a few weight saving techniques, managing to drop the Impreza’s curb weight to only 2,910 lbs (1,320 kg), and also they’ve optimized the car’s aerodynamics and fitted it with low-rolling resistance tires.

2012 Subaru Impreza

As far as the design is concerned, it looks pretty boring if you ask me, although Subaru said that they have used the “Smart & Classy” concept. Inside, we find a 3-spoke steering wheel, a round speedometer and rev counter, not that exciting at all.

Fox Marketing Lexus CT200h

Fox Marketing Lexus CT200h

I never liked the idea of a tuned Lexus and this latest package developed by Fox Marketing is another reason why cars like these should stay stock. This one-off CT200h was unveiled during the New York Auto Show and it is a bespoke model that packs a wide bodykit with modified fascias, updated side skirts and an awful-looking very aggressive rear diffuser. Those 20-inch alloy rims are not that bad, along with the Cinnamon paint job and the tinted headlights, but that diffuser ruins the car.

Fox Marketing Lexus CT200h

Nothing special going on inside the cabin, where we find Yonaka Ronin racing seats, illuminated “Lexus” logos in the door panels and an aluminum trim.

Fox Marketing Lexus CT200h

The car’s 1.8-liter engine has been fitted with an Eaton supercharger, a high-performance intercooler and a Climax Racing intake manifold. No performance figures have been revealed but the Japanese automaker says that the power plant should deliver about 300 hp (304 PS / 224 kW).

Suzuki Kizashi Apex And EcoCharge Concepts Revealed

Suzuki Kizashi Apex Concept

Today at the New York Auto Show, Suzuki unveiled two new concepts: the Kizashi Apex and EcoCharge.

Suzuki Kizashi Apex Concept

The first one is powered by a 2.4-liter engine that produces between 275-300 hp (205-224 kW). This power unit features a Garrett/Honeywell 2871 R ball bearing turbocharger, along with an air-to-liquid intercooler. Taking into consideration that the automaker wasn’t able to say exactly how much power this 4-cylider 2.4-liter DOHC produces, it means that they haven’t really tested the car a lot.

Suzuki Kizashi Apex Concept

As you can see from these photos, the Apex Concept sports Euro-spec HID headlights, LED fog lights and sits on 19-inch rims, covered by Yokohama S.Drive tires that measure 245/35/R19 on all four wheels. Inside the cabin, they’ve fitted the concept with a black leather finish that is complemented by a laser blue Alcantara trim for the steering wheel and the sport seats.

Moving on to the EcoCharge, it is a hybrid concept that couples a 2.0-liter engine (144 hp / 127 lb.-ft) with a tiny 15 kW electric motor. With the help of a 15 kWh lithium-ion battery, the fuel consumption drops by 25%.

2013 Ford Taurus Revealed

2013 Ford Taurus

With all those China-only models invading the automotive industry, it’s good to talk about an all-American car. This week at the New York Auto Show, Ford will bring the 2013 Taurus model, which will feature a couple of mild exterior upgrades here and there, along with a new look for the dashboard and better materials inside the cabin. In addition, there are going to be some modifications in the engine department, but we’ll talk about them a little bit later.

2013 Ford Taurus

As you can see, the front of the Taurus has received a new inverted trapezoid grille as well as an updated front bumper and a more muscular bonnet. Out in the back, you’ll notice that the quarter panels have been raised and they’ve added generous LED tail lamps. The top-spec SHO model comes with a black mesh grille and matching mirrors, a decklid-mounted spoiler and sits on 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped around in 255/45 ZR19 tires.

2013 Ford Taurus

As far as the cabin is concerned, the 2013MY Taurus features an updated dashboard with a new instrument panel, center console and steering wheel and as we mentioned in the beginning, better materials. In comparison to the outgoing model, the new one doesn’t have that many buttons and knobs thanks to the fact that the Blue Oval has updated its MyFord Touch technology and now most of the controls are only a touch of the screen away.

2013 Ford Taurus

The most important modification brought to the facelift version is under the hood, where we find a new 2.0-liter Ecoboost turbo power unit to choose from. This 4-cylinder power plant will produce about 237 hp and a peak torque of 250 lb.-ft. Fuel economy will be of at least 31 mpg on the highway.

2013 Ford Taurus

The automaker also tweaked the V6 3.5-liter Ecoboost engine which now produces 290 hp (263 hp in the current model) and 255 lb.-ft. In addition, this updated version improves fuel economy by 3%, according to Ford. The 3.5-liter Ecoboost engine available in the SHO version hasn’t received any updated, which means that it still outputs 365 hp and a peak torque of 350 lb.-ft.

2013 Ford Taurus

All these power units will be linked to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
