The Japanese carmaker Nissan has revealed earlier this week the Track Pack version of the popular GT-R model, which although it is track-focused, it still remains 100% road legal. Based on the 2012 GT-R, the Track Pack doesn’t get more power but it comes with a bunch of dynamic and visual upgrades in order to make it the hottest GT-R ever.

According to Nissan, this version of the car is a response to the requests coming from GT-R owners, the ones who are “the most demanding in the world” and who want an extra edge on the circuit. Kazutoshi Mizuno is the car’s chief engineer and he said that this Track Pack version of the Nissan GT-R is able to do a lap of the Nurburgring in less than 7 minutes.

From the outside we notice that the standard wheels are gone as Nissan replaced them with a lightweight 6-spoke RAYS set that comes with a glossy black paint finish. The front bumper has received more cooling ducts in order to offer more air to the brakes, which in return will improve their performances around the race track. There are additional ducts hidden behind the back wheels which offer more cooling for the rear brake discs.

Nissan’s engineers also modified the suspension of the GT-R, revising the spring rates to make them more suitable for track use. The comfort setting for the adaptive dampers was not removed so that the GT-R could still be suitable for road use.

Inside the cabin, the Nissan GT-R Track Pack features Recaro seats that are trimmed in a high grip material which will keep the driver in place during heavy braking and cornering. In order to reduce the weight of the car, the Japanese automaker has removed the rear seats. In the center console, Nissan has mounted a bespoke “Track Pack” emblem.

The car is powered by the same V6 3.8-liter engine that develops 542 hp and is able to hit 62 mph from start in only 2.7 seconds, just like the standard model. Nissan said that the regular 2012 GT-R will cost from 74,450 pounds while the Track Pack version is 10,000 pounds more expensive. Both versions of the GT-R are available for order now and the deliveries in the United Kingdom will start from March next year.

2013 Nissan GT-R hits 100 km/h in 2.84 seconds

You probably knew already that the 2013 Nissan GT-R was going to be an impressive car, but it is even better than most of you have hoped, being capable of hitting 100 km/h in only 2.84 seconds. If this figure is accurate it means that the car will be faster than the Ferrari 599 GTO, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and pretty much every car out there, except for the Bugatti Veyron.

As a reminder, the 2013 Nissan GT-R is powered by a revised twin-turbo V6 3.8-liter engine that develops 542 hp (550 PS / 405 kW) and a peak torque of 466 lb.-ft (632 Nm). We don’t have official details regarding the performance specifications of the car, but we do know that it is going to be a very quick vehicle.

The original Nissan GT-R was launched back in 2007 and since then, every year the Japanese automaker has launched a new model year version. This week they did the same thing, launching the European, JDM and North American versions of the all-wheel drive sports cars.

As far as the design is concerned, things have remained pretty much the same compared to the outgoing model, except for the blue lightning inside the tachometer ring which now matches the shift position indicator light.

The most important modifications are under the hood where the 3.8-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine has received a few upgrades for the exhaust system, intercooler, heads as well as other changes which have increased the output of the power unit from the previous 530 PS @ 6,400 rpm and 451 lb.-ft (612 Nm) available between 3,200 to 6,400 rpm, to 550 PS @ 6,400 rpm and 466 lb.-ft (632 Nm) available from 3,200 to 5,800 rpm.

According to Nissan, the changes have improved the response of the engine and torque, and also the fuel efficiency has been improved as well, the car now being capable of doing 20 mpg (11.8 liters / 100 km or 24 mpg UK or 8.7 km/L in Japan’s JC08 mode). The new model year also features a more rigid body; certain models get a ceramic brake system, along with unique asymmetric suspension settings.

The Japanese car maker has also made a few equipment changes and all of the 2013 GT-R variants will get as standard a rear view camera system along with an improved Bose sound system.

Nissan has also mentioned that they have developed a new track-focused version of the GT-R which was designed entirely for right hand drive markets like UK and Japan. The car was jointly developed with NordRing Company from Japan, and comes in a two-seat configuration in order to lower the weight of the vehicle; an updated suspension settings, more brake cooling, a different front spoiler that has a carbon air duct, while the wheels are taken from the Spec-V model.

The Nissan GT-R is set to go on sale on the 24th of this month in Japan while Europe will get it in early next year.

If you haven’t heard of BenSopra yet, you should know that it is a tuner from Japan and its latest upgrade program is for the Nissan GT-R. The car is scheduled to make an appearance at the 2012 Tokyo Auto Show and soon after that it will go on sale. According to the tuner, the GT-R will be able to develop about 1,000 hp (735 kW) from the same V6 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine, and it will also feature a new bodykit.

Expect to see wider wheel arches, new side skirts, new front & rear bumpers as well as a huge rear wing. In addition, the Nissan GT-R by BenSopra will have a new hood that will feature a lot of vents for cooling down the engine, along with a new rear diffuser.

First of all, the car you see in these pictures is not tuned by Mansory or by any other tuner with bad tastes. As a matter of fact, Nissan themselves ruined the 2012 GT-R. This special edition was named “VVIP” and it is easily distinguishable by the black carbon fiber rear spoiler and the 24 karat gold plated side panels and grill. Obviously, there are dozens of VVIP badges.

2012 Nissan GT-R Breaks Its Own Nurburgring Record

In this video you will be able to see the 2012 Nissan GT-R breaking its old record on the Nurburgring circuit. Although the clip is in Japanese, you can see all the 7 minutes and 24.22 seconds of the car’s track run from inside the cockpit. The time Nissan managed to do is just a little bit behind Porsche’s 911 GT2 RS that completed a lap in 7 minutes and 24 seconds.

As a reminder, the 2012 Nissan GT-R packs a 3.8-liter V6 twin-turbo engine that produces 530 hp (537 PS / 395 kW) and 488 lb.-ft (661 Nm) of torque. The car can sprint to 60 mph (100 km/h) in 3 seconds, but in order to achieve that time, some may have to use the R-Mode Start Function.

The new model managed to beat the 2011’s circuit time of 7 minutes and 26.7 seconds by almost 2.5 seconds, which is quite a lot.

Nissan’s Street Campaign Is Rudimentary, Yet Efficient

What would be the most direct and obvious way to get the attention of a Porsche driver in Germany and make him switch to a GT-R? Well, sticking the message right in his face is one. Although it isn’t subtle at all, it can work in some cases; this is one of them, according to the agency that came up with the campaign.

The idea behind Nissan’s campaign you see in this video comes from Dusseldorf-based ad agency TBWA. This agency went around sticking an ad poster that featured the GT-R’s rear end on the windscreen of Porsche models – pretty innovative, right? This ad asks the Porsche drivers whether they would want to have a different perspective and points them to Nissan’s website in Germany to put their name down for a test driver.

According to the agency, test drive requests went up by 23% after this 2-week campaign. I don’t think that this figure is true, plus there is a long way between test driving a car and buying one.

Corvette Z06 vs. Shelby GT500 vs. GT-R

It seems that Motor Trend is searching for the best budget supercar and Ford, Chevrolet and Nissan stepped up to this challenge with their 2011 Shelby GT 500, 2011 Corvette Z06 and my favorite, the 2012 GT-R. The latter cranks out 530 hp from its V6 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged engine. The GT500 offers 20 hp more from the 5.4-liter V8 supercharged power unit while the Z06 produces 505 hp from its 7.0-liter engine.

Although the best bang-for-the-buck would have to be the Shelby GT500 due to its $55,330 price tag, I’d still pick the GT-R as it looks way cooler. The price for the Nissan is $90,950 while the Corvette is $98,010 – the models tested.

To find out which is better, Motor Trend took these three cars to the Streets of Willow road curse and organized a drag race. As you might have expected, the Nissan GT-R won the challenge, but the video is still worth seeing.

The other day Dodge released a really cool-named version of their Challenger SRT8 model, dubbed “Green Envy”. Today we’re going to talk about another car with an interesting name, the 2012 Nissan GT-R “Egoist Edition”. This new edition joins the other already available: Pure Edition, Black Edition, Premium Edition, SpecV and Club Track. The most interesting thing about this one, aside from its cool name, would have to be that it is the first and only GT-R exclusively created by Takumi.

Each of the cars will be unique, as the buyers will have the possibility to choose from a combination of 20 interior colors. Under the hood of this beast will be the standard GT-R engine, and by standard we mean 530 hp @ 6,400 rpm / 612 Nm @ 3,200 – 6,000 rpm, coming from the V6 3.8-liter twin turbo, mated to a 6-speed dual clutch gearbox. This allows the car to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 3 seconds, onto a top speed of 195 mph. Despite it is a very powerful engine, fuel consumption is rated at 8.5 liters / km.

Moving on to the exterior changes, this “Egoist Edition” benefits from a black carbon rear spoiler that you will also see in the SpecV model, which was added in order to improve the aerodynamic performances of the GT-R. The car rolls on highly-rigid forged aluminum-alloy rims that are offered in a 5-layer Blue Sword Chrome Color Coating. This special edition GT-R also got a Titanium exhaust system.

More significant modifications can be seen inside the cabin. As we mentioned before, buyers will have to choose from 20 colors, 4 upper area interior colors as well as 10 lower area interior colors. The seats of the “Egoist Edition” have an exclusive quilted design that has single and double stitching combined in a reticular pattern.

Those lucky enough to buy the car will also get a Bose Precision Sound System that has carbon composite-based woofers. More than that, Bose will adjust the sound quality for each owner, depending upon the individual driving position.

The 2012 Nissan GT-R Egoist Edition will be available only in Japan at a starting price of 15,000,300 Yen (approximately $184,500 at the current rates).

If we look back to 2009, you’ll remember that owners of the Nissan GT-R had a serious issue to think about. Their cars came with a launch control system, but by using it, they had to say goodbye to the warranty. The Japanese carmaker decided to avoid the “warranty nightmare” for the 2010 model and they ditched the system.

For the 2012 model, the Nissan GT-R can be fitted with the launch control system as it is listed as optional equipment. The Japanese engineers tweaked the system which now allows the drivers to use it four times in a row, before shutting it off so that the transmission of the car will not have to suffer.

Just like the first generation of the system, the new one, dubbed LC4 launches from 4,000 rpm but it does a better job at minimizing the wheel spin, making the new generation of the car (which is 45 hp more powerful than the outgoing model) a lot faster in a straight line race, comparing to the 2010MY GT-R.

The 530 hp / 448 pound-feet of torque coming from the engine allow the car to reach 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, with the aid of the sophisticated electronic all-wheel-drive system and the dual-clutch transmission.

Former O.C. deputy accused of illegally importing GT-Rs, including “The fast and the furious” car

According to LA Times, Daryl Alison, a 45 year old former Orange County sheriff’s deputy is currently being charged with illegally importing $450,000 worth of Nissan Skyline GT-Rs, including the one driven by Paul Walker in “The Fast and The Furious” movies. Not produced in the United States, the cars don’t meet the current US regulations regarding safety and environment and both Alison and his employer, Kaizo Industries failed to file the required paperwork for the vehicles.

According to investigators’ reports, the cars came into the United States in two shipments (one included the body and the other the drive-train) and “After arriving at Kaizo’s warehouse, several of the car bodies were then mated back with their original drive-trains and sold to the public,” ICE officials said in a statement.

“The defendants allegedly put bogus 17-digit Vehicle Identification Numbers on the cars in place of the actual Nissan VIN plate,” the statement read. “To avoid California’s stricter registration and emission requirements, many of the cars were registered out of the state and sold to California residents with Florida and Arizona plates.”

Premium Nissan GT-R to get ‘Egoist’ name


Nissan definitely wants to stand out from the rest of the pack when it comes to its flagship GT-R performance model. We’ve already seen leaked details about the upcoming 2012 Nissan GT-R, and now new info on the premium version of the Japanese car has been uncovered.

According to Autocar, the more upmarket Nissan GT-R will get the ‘Egoist‘ name, instead of the rumored Spec M.

“Yes, there’s a bit of tongue in cheek in the name, and yes, the word does mean self-conceited, but we just wanted to have some fun with the name,” said a spokesman.

The Nissan GT-R Egoist will boast a revised front fascia, with a new front intake duct and larger air vents to provide cooling for the transmission and exhaust. The brakes have been enlarged, while the 10-spoke wheels are now even lighter. LED technology will be used on both the front and the rear of the sports car.

Expect an array of high end options to be available for the Egoist, as well as the changes that were already rumored for the 2012 Nissan GT-R.

Overall, it seems Nissan really wants to market the GT-R to other types of customers, not just performance enthusiasts.

2012 Nissan GT-R set to get big improvements, rear-wheel drive mode


The Nissan GT-R is one of the most acclaimed models on the market, offering great performance for a decent price. The 2012 Nissan GT-R will further improve the recipe by adding things like an upgraded chassis as well as other improvements, including a rear-wheel drive mode, at least according to new rumors.

First off, Nissan is looking to address some chassis issues, and will reinforce the current one by adding new stabilizers and reinforcements. The front suspension assembly will also see the addition of aluminum and carbon strut towers. The braking system will also be thoroughly upgraded, as many customers have complained about it.

Most importantly however is the fact that Nissan will include a rear-wheel drive mode, in addition to the standard, biased all-wheel drive. Before you dream of the hoonage that would imply, Nissan does advise customers to keep the GT-R in AWD while on regular roads.

Cosmetic improvements are also rumored. These include a redesigned front fascia, with LED daytime running lights. Aerodynamics are set to be improved, thanks a new rear diffuser, while weight will be shaved with a set of new wheels. New car colors are available, Aurora Flare Blue Pearl and Nebula Opal Black, while the wheels can also be decorated in either Hyper Blue Black and Hyper Titanium.

Expect price increases for the standard model, set to be called the Pure Edition, as well as for the Premium Edition. No word yet on when we will see the concrete announcement of the 2012 Nissan GT-R, but these details will keep us satisfied until then.

Nissan GT-R Track Club Edition revealed, get your wallets ready


Nissan wants to make its GT-R sportscar even more exclusive, and is setting up a special owner’s club in its native Japan, complete with a dedicated track-only Nissan GT-R.

This new organization is called The Prestige Club of GT-R. The special car made by the Japanese company will be the Nissan GT-R Track Club Edition. It has been developed with insight from Nissan, NISMO, Nova Engineering and Nordring tuning.

Why is this track-only Godzilla so great? Well, it packs a huge array of upgrades over the regular model. It has a recalibrated ECM, a new traction control, Blistein dampers and a front lip spoiler. On the inside, you will find special Bride sports seats, with four-point harnesses, a fire suppression system and a race-ready data logging system from NISMO. The twin-turbo engine is now rated at 493 HP with 434 lb-ft of torque.

In case you want in on this track-ready goodness, you’d better be prepared to pay a lot of money, as well as move to Japan. The Nissan GT-R Track Club Edition costs ¥10,479,000 ($120,725), while membership in the prestige club costs ¥2 million ($23,024), and the annual fee is ¥1 million ($11,513). For all that, you’ll get access to a special yearly gathering, as well as participation in two race days. Make up your mind fast, as applications are open until September 20.
