Frankfurt Motor Show – Peugeot 508 RXH

Peugeot 508 RXH

Peugeot brought this year to Frankfurt its hybrid 508 RXH model which is the crossover variant of the 508 SW. It will carry a base price tag of more than 30,000 pounds and will be motivated by a 2.0 HDi engine – the one you’ll find in the 3008 HYbrid4- which will power the front wheels, along with an electric motor that drives the ones in the back.

The car will have a combined fuel economy of 67.2 mpg UK and will have CO2 emissions of only 109 g/km. The combined output of the power units is 200 hp, while the torque is 330 lb.-ft, and the car will allow the driver to choose from one of the four following modes: automatic, zero emissions, sport and four-wheel drive.

Compared to the aforementioned 508 SW, the new hybrid 508 RXH has different dimensions as it features a 40 mm wider track while the height has increased by 50 mm. The vehicle will feature a head-up display, electric front seats, 18-inch alloys, dark-tinted acoustic laminated side windows, a panoramic glass roof and a half-leather trim – all as standard features.

The diesel/electric hybrid exhibited at the Frankfurt Motor Show is a part of a special launch edition that Peugeot plans on rolling out. Only 300 cars will be made and 10% of them will go to UK customers when the car will be available starting with the spring of next year. Each of them will be individually numbered and will wear a brown exterior paint finish, along with a leather and Alcantara interior cabin.

Peugeot 508 RXH Revealed

Peugeot 508 RXH

Announced back in July, Peugeot has decided to offer all the juicy details regarding its all-new 508 RXH which will join the company’s mid-size model’s range after the introduction of the sedan and the estate versions. Set to make its official debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the car is based on the estate model and basically it follows the same idea that Audi used for its Allroad and Volvo for its XC70 model.

It has a new front end which looks excellent in my opinion, along with flared wheel arches, plus the higher-riding suspension and the bespoke 18-inch alloy wheels. The car features an entirely new 4WD system that uses an electric motor, just like the one used in the HX1 and the 3008.

The car’s Hybrid4 system includes a 2.0-liter turbodiesel HDi FAP located in the front and a rear-mounted electric motor. The traditional engine drives the front wheels while the green one the rear wheels. The car will feature four driving modes: Automatic, Sport, 4WD and Zero Emission, the latter being available when the car is driven in electric mode.

The Peugeot 508 RXH offers a combined power output of 200 hp and manages to return 58.8 mpg (70.6 mpg UK or 4.0 liters / 100 km), while CO2 emissions are 109 g/km.

The car is set to go on sale starting with next spring and at Frankfurt in September the French automaker will reveal a special edition of the car which will feature a Calern Brown exterior finish and Alcantara upholstery. Each of the 300 units they’ll make will be individually numbered and clients will be able to order the car starting with this fall.

Peugeot officially reveals the new 508 sedan

After a lot of rumors, plenty of teasing and a special concept, the brand new Peugeot 508 sedan has officially been revealed.

For those that aren’t in the know, the 508 will replace both the smaller 407 and the bigger 607, and act as the flagship for the whole Peugeot range.

As you can see above, the new 508 takes cues from both the Peugeot SR1 concept, as well as the 5 by Peugeot prototype. While its looks may not be everyone’s cup of tea, expect certain elements to transcend into the smaller models from the range.

Engine-wise, you can expect an array of both petrol and HDi diesel units. Thanks to the PSA Peugeot Citroen group’s e-HDi technology, all diesel 508 version will feature Stop-Start systems.

A Hybrid4 version might also appear along the way. It will use a regular engine to power the front wheels, while the rear ones will be powered by an electric motor. According to those same rumors, the hybrid verison will boast four-wheel drive, 200 HP and an emissions rating of 99 g/km of CO2.

Last but not least, and this might be a bit of a long shot, while the 407 Coupe will continue to live on, the 508 might see a convertible version, with a folding hardtop.

The 2011 Peugeot 508 will make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show this September, and will be marketed both in Europe and in China.

Peugeot launching luxury sub-brand: Hors-série

Peugeot is borrowing a page from Citroen’s play book, and has just announced that it will establish, with the release of the RCZ roadster, a new premium sub-brand, called Hors-série.

As you may remember, Citroen is getting a lot of attention because of its new DS lineup, which takes regular models from the French company and adds luxury features, moving them upmarket in terms of quality and price. Seeing that, its partner in the PSA Group, Peugeot, will do the same, as hors-serie means “built outside the regular, mass production, in French.

The RCZ is set to lead the pack, followed by a wagon variant of the future 508 sedan, which will also feature some interesting additions to the standard trim line. After this, another model, which hasn’t been detailed, will follow in 2012.

For what it’s worth, Citroen is set to make some pretty big sales with the DS lineup, so Peugeot might be onto something. Hopefully it will be able to market it correctly and succeed.

5 by Peugeot concept revealed, previews future 508 model

Peugeot is getting ready to replace its aging saloons, the 407 and 607, with one single model, the upcoming 508. Up until a few days ago, nothing certain was known about the next sedan, only that it will take on the D segment and sport some kind of hybrid setup.

Now though the French company officially revealed the “5 by Peugeot” concept model, which will no doubt preview the production version of the future 508 sedan. Although still bearing some classic concept styling tweaks, like the emphasized headlights, overall you can expect many of its features to make it on the final car that rolls off the assembly line.

Under the bonnet, the 5 by Peugeot sports a diesel hybrid setup, with a 163 HP 2.0-liter HDI FAP combustion engine being mated to a 37 HP electric motor. As such, 200 HP are sent through the Hybrid4 setup to all of the wheels. The technology also allows the 5 concept to run on the electric power alone for a certain, undisclosed distance. The result of this hybrid setup? A fuel economy of 74.3 mpg and 99 g/km of CO2 emissions.

Overall, the new concept looks pretty good, borrowing a few things from the SR1 sportscar concept we saw earlier this year. Take a look for yourselves in the photo gallery below and then share your thoughts about it in the comment box below.

Peugeot to merge 407 and 607 into the new 508

OK, I admit that title might have gotten you a bit confused, but that’s just what the new strategy for Peugeot is. According to some sources, it seems that the French company has decided to follow-up its two sedans, the 407 and 607, will be just one vehicle, dubbed the 508.

This decision is largely due to economical constraints, as not a lot of people were interested in the big old 607, and that it will create a 408 model, but not the one you would expect, as it will just be a sedan version of the 308 hatchback, exclusively for the Chinese market.

Enough to make you scratch your heads? I thought so. It seems that this new 508 will become the company’s flagship model, and although this move might turn off a few fans, it will be targeted at the premium segment of the market. Rumors also indicate that Peugeot will borrow some of the technology its partner, Citroen, has developed for the new C5.

Last but not least, the model might arrive at the beginning of 2011, according to some voices, and a hybrid version might also make an appearance one year later, in late 2012.
