Porsche Cajun Renderings Leaked

We finally have some definite proofs that Porsche is working on a baby Cayenne, which most likely will be called Cajun. The car will probably be launched in 2013 and is going to be based on the Audi Q5. It seems that the model is going to be available in both 5- and 3-door variants, but nothing is certain at the moment.

These renderings come from an internal styling exercise at the company’s design headquarters and we can see that the Cajun will borrow some design cues from the 911 model. To differentiate it from the aforementioned Q5, Porsche will come up with an entirely new interior and parts of it, like the ancillary switchgear, climate controls and the instrument pack will also make it into new generation of the Boxster as well as a new mid-engined roadster that will be slotted below the Boxster.

Reports say that the baby SUV will be powered by a wide selection of Porsche-tweaked Audi engines, including here 4- and 6-cylinder gasoline and diesel units. Most likely, the Cajun will be available only with a four-wheel drive system borrowed from Audi.

This will become Porsche’s fifth model in the lineup and hopefully for the German automaker, will help with the company’s objective of reaching 150,000 annual sales. The new sub-Boxster model aims as high as 200,000 units by the end of this decade.

With the launch of the Cajun, Porsche will build a new bodyshell facility and hire 100 people at its east German facility. At the moment, the body of the Panamera model is built and painted by VW at the Hannover factory.

Fully Restored Porsche 911 T Coupe From 1973, To Be Raffled

If you are a member of the Porsche Club of America (PCB), you’re probably counting the days left until the parade. The car in this image is a fully restored 1973 Porsche 911 T Coupe that was brought back to life by the Porsche Classic in Germany and at the end of this month, on July 31st, it will be raffled-off to a very lucky PCA member during the Porsche Parade which will be held in Savannah, Georgia.

This is one of the units from the last year of production of Porsche’s F-model and was found to be in a “pitiful” condition somewhere in sunny California. The car is powered by a 6-cylinder, 2.4-liter engine that produces 138 hp (140 PS / 103 kW), enough for hitting a top speed of 127 mph (205 km/h).

Singer’s Porsche 911 Gets Cosworth Engines

You probably have heard of Singer Vehicle Design, the engineers that came up with the retro-modern cool Porsche 911 a while ago. This week, they’ve announced a partnership with Cosworth, the legendary British engineering company.

Singer’s 911 model features a modified body of the 1960s Porsche 911, but underneath it is as modern as it can be, combining the very best from both worlds. Singer Vehicle Design (SVD) is using flat-six air-cooled engines for their special 911 and already they’ve managed to sell three cars. From now one, customers will get the car with one of the three Cosworth engines offered. The Singer Porsche 911 Cosworth is going to be available with three performance levels.

The entry-level “Touring” is offered with a 3.6-liter engine that outputs 300 hp, the mid-range “Sport” with a 3.9-liter engine that churns 380 hp, along with the top-spec “Cup” model that will host a 3.9- to 4.0-liter engine that generates more than 425 hp.

In addition, Singer teamed up with Aria Group who will be in charge of preparing, painting and delivering the carbon fiber bodies.

Interested in this car? Well, you have to know that the base model will set you back $190,000 while the “Cup” costs more than $300,000.

Porsche Triumphs At 24-hour Nurburgring Race

The Porsche Team Manthey has managed its fifth victory in the last six years at the 24-hour Nurburgring race. The guys behind the wheel of the 911 GT3 RSR were Marc Lieb from Germany, Timo Bernhard form Germany, Romain Dumas from France and Lucas Luhr from Switzerland. They managed to drive the car for 156 laps or 2,460 miles (3,958 km).

The Porsche 911 GT3 RSR took the lead of the race while there were only 35 minutes left of the race and successfully hold on to the first position until the end. In second place came last year’s winner – BMW Motorsports M3 GT2 and rounding up the top 3 was the Audi R8 LMS.

Cars team up again with femininity – 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 by Autodynamica Performance

I don’t know how this is possible, but apparently women cannot stay away from super-cool cars, and either cars from women. It’s like a silent long-term partnership that activates itself exactly when at the right moment and always with the right woman / car nearby.

Such an example is Porsche 911 GT3 modified by Autodynamica and his sexy partner Shellee Nemeckek, a Texas model. The result: a provocative photo-shoot and an aroused guilty pleasure.

So, let us be clear about the characters involved into this situation: we have one super-hot model and a Porsche 911 GT3. Yet Another Porsche 911 Variant Announced!

As if there weren’t enough variants of the current generation Porsche 911, the Ingolstadt-based automaker has announced yet another one – the 911 Carrera 4 GTS, just a few months away from the next-gen 911. This new variant of the current 911 is in fact the all-wheel drive version of the 911 Carrera GTS, a car that we saw first last year at the Paris Motor Show.

Customers will be able to choose from both coupe and cabrio variants, powered by a 6-cylinder 3.8-liter inline engine that outputs 402 hp (408 PS / 300 kW) and has a peak torque of 310 lb.-ft (420 Nm). As standard, this engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or with the optional 7-speed double-clutch PDK transmission. 0-60 mph will be done in 4.6 seconds for the coupe model fitted with the manual, while the convertible is a little bit slower, needing 4.8 seconds. The PDK gearbox shaves off 0.2 seconds for both variants.

The car features a new wide bodykit that has a wider rear track, a front apron, black spoiler lip, black side skirts, along with 19-inch RS Spyder black-painted rims with central locking. The cabin gets sports seats and a black Alcantara trim for the center console, gearshift, steering wheel rim, door handles and handbrake lever.

As far as the PTM all-wheel drive system, it features torque vectoring in order to send the suitable amount of twisting power to the wheels in the front with a limited-slip differential for the car’s rear axle.

In Germany, the base price for the coupe version is 111,959 Euros, while the cabriolet starts from 122,071 Euros. The model is scheduled to go on sale this July.

Porsche Cayman S Black Edition Revealed

One of the few Porsche models that I really like is the Cayman. After they’ve released the Black Editions of the Boxster S and the 911, the German automaker has decided to role one for its sexy Cayman model. Over the standard model, the black one offers 10 hp more from its 6-cylinder 3.4-liter engine that now develops 325 hp (330 PS / 243 kW) @ 7,400 rpm (200 rpm higher in comparison to the regular model) and 370 Nm (same as before).

Other goodies include the 19-inch rims from the Boxster Spyder, covered by 235/35ZR19 rubber (front) and 265/35ZR19 (back). As standard, the car comes with bi-xenon headlights, black leather seats and a new Sport Design steering wheel. The door sills now feature a stainless steel “Black Edition” badge.

In Germany, the Porsche Cayman S Black Edition has a base price of 67,807 Euros, including VAT, while in UK, the price starts from 50,420 pounds.

Diesel-powered Porsche Panamera Offers 745 Miles Range

The German automaker Porsche has unveiled this week the diesel version of its Panamera model. Fitted with a V6 3.0-liter that produces 247 hp (250 PS / 184 kW) and 406 lb.-ft (550 Nm) of torque, it will do 36 mpg (6.5 liters / 100 km); 172 g/km CO2, making it one of the most fuel efficient cars in the segment.

If the car is equipped with low roll-resistance tires, it will do 37 mpg; 167 g/km CO2, which is pretty impressive for such a heavy car. With its 80-liter tank, the diesel-powered Porsche Panamera has a range of up to 745 miles (1,200 km).

Porsche dealerships will be able to sell this model starting with August, at a starting price of 80,183 Euros (VAT included), in Germany.

Porsche Shows Us The Versatility Of Their Cars Through A Clever Ad

The German automaker Porsche has launched a new ad commercial campaign in the United States that tries to attempt to change the company’s image in the eyes of American customers. This new advert aims to show that a Porsche is much more than a sports car.

This TV ad shows the Porsche Cayman / 911 as a snowmobile, pickup truck, getaway car and my personal favorite, as a school bus. The main idea behind this clever ad is to show that the automaker’s cars are also fit for day-to-day use.

Rumors: Porsche Working On Ferrari 458 Rival

Just a few days ago Porsche confirmed that the 918 Spyder will go into production and it is going to be the most expensive model that the company has ever sold, with a price tag of $845,000. Rumors say that the automaker is working on another car to fill in a gap in its lineup. We are talking about a new mid-engined supercar that will rival the beautiful Ferrari 458 Italia and the McLaren MP4-12C. Of course, Porsche cannot take this decision on its own because they have to get approval from Volkswagen.

If there is going to be such a model, it will most likely be offered in both coupe and roadster versions and will have a price tag of approximately $275,000. The Porsche engineers might use carbon fiber-reinforced plastic for reducing the car’s curb weight and increasing its performances.

The car will be powered by an engine that will develop somewhere between 550 and 600 hp in order to compete with the aforementioned 458 Italia and the MP-12C. The Ferrari packs a V8 4.5-liter engine that develops 570 hp and 398 lb.-ft of torque, while the McLaren delivers 592 hp and 443 lb.-ft of torque from its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 power plant. This power could be attained from the 911 GT2 RS that has a 3.6-liter engine, developing 620 hp.

VW-Porsche Merger, Not Over Yet

This talk about Volkswagen taking over / merger with Porsche is been going on for ages, but it’s still not over yet. The giant VW Group is having tax and legal issues in its planned merger with Porsche, because of the Porsche Holding SE, which is Porsche’s parent company and has a very significant debt to pay. The latter will need a major cash infusion before they can be financially stable enough for a proper merger.

As a reminder, Volkswagen AG currently has 49.9% of Porsche cars while the Porsche SE owns the rest of the 51.1%. VW really wants this merger to take place as soon as possible as its plans are to become the world’s largest automaker by 2018 and sell more than 10 million cars annually. Needless to say, Porsche is a very successful brand (although the designing team is almost inexistent) and both the companies have already established many projects as a part of a $971.1 million investment per year in shared synergies.

This Is The World’s First Petrol-Electric Hybrid Car

Although many people think that hybrid cars were not around until the late 90s or so, you should know that the first petrol-electric hybrid vehicle was made in 1900 by Ferdinand Porsche himself. After a prolific history of 111 years, the German automaker has reconstructed the car and will be exhibiting it next week at the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show.

The revival of the Semper Vivus was a 4-year project and for this special occasion, Porsche will bring to Geneva a more modern hybrid model – probably the Panamera S Hybrid. They will also bring the 918 RSR hybrid race car concept, a 325 hp (330 PS / 243 kW) Cayman R, a Boxster S Black Edition and a limited series 911 Black Edition based on the 340 hp (345 PS / 254 kW) 911 Carrera.

Porsche will make only 1,911 units of the 911 Black Edition while the Boxster S Black Edition will be made in only 987 units.

Porsche To Roll Out New Models Every Year

Matthias Mueller, Porsche’s CEO told Automotive News Europe about the automaker’s strategy to double sales by 2018. The most important thing that he said is that they want to “improve condition between our model line product life cycles” by launching new models each and every year. This year they will introduce the new 911 and in 2012 the facelift for the Cayman and the Boxster.

The German automaker already has a lot of derivates of the current 911, but they will not stop here as Mueller said that they will launch more in the future, not only for the 911, but also for other models in the lineup. In other words, pretty soon we will see new variations of the aforementioned Cayman and Boxster, along with the Panamera sedan and the Cayenne SUV.

When asked what will the Panemera facelift look like, the German said that it will adopt a sportier styling and they might also launch an extended-wheelbase model along with a plug-in hybrid. He didn’t confirm whether there is going to be a coupe version of the Panamera.

Regarding the rumored 929 supercar, he said suggested that there was room for such a car between the 911 GT2 RS and the 918 Spyder. The automaker is at the moment evaluating the idea and they will most likely reach a decision later on this year.

Porsche’s CEO also said that electric vehicles are overhyped and will only represent a small portion (3-5%) of all automotive sales by 2020 – I completely agree with him. Taking this statement into consideration, it means that the Boxster E-prototype will remain not more than a prototype, but Porsche promised to offer hybrid variants to the entire cars in the lineup.

Preview – 2011 Chicago Auto Show PART 3

Welcome back to the third and final part of our extensive article about the most important cars that will delight us at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show. Let’s start with Land Rover and their Range Rover Evoque.

2012 Land Rover Evoque

The car will be available in 2-door and 4-door variants, both of them featuring the same engine, which will be a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged that outputs 240 hp, linked to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Evoque will come with an all-wheel drive system as well as the company’s new Terrain Response System.

2011 Lexus CT 200h

One of my personal favorites, Lexus, will bring the CT 200h which is a 4-door / 5-passenger hybrid hatchback, featuring a conventional 4-cylinder 1.8-liter gasoline engine and a battery-powered electric motor, both of them offering a combined power of 134 hp. The new C200h will use a CVT – Continuously Variable Transmission and can run on one or both of the power sources (without having to charge it).

2012 Mercedes SLK

Mercedes will be heading out to Chicago where they will have three new production models: the beautiful 2012 SLK, the 2012 CLS and the 2012 C-Class. We’ve talked about the SLK on rpmGO.com before; it will be available in two variants: the SLK250 and the SLK350. The entry-level model will be fitted with a 4-cylinder 1.8-liter that outputs 201 hp, linked to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic gearbox. The SLK350 is going to have a more powerful V6 3.5-liter engine, good for 302 hp. This model will be available with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

The CLS will be available in two models: CLS550 and the AMG CLS63. The first one has a V8 4.7-liter turbocharged engine that outputs 402 hp while the other comes with a V8 5.5-liter turbocharged engine that produces 518 hp. The CLS550 has a 7-speed automatic gearbox while the CLS630 AMG will get a 7-speed automated manual gearbox.

The 2012 C250 will be offered in two trim levels: Luxury and Sport, both of them featuring a 4-cylinder 1.8-liter unit that churns 201 hp. The C300 will have the same trim levels, but it will be equipped with a V6 3.0-liter engine, good for 228 hp. The C350 will have the same engine, but this time it will output 302 hp. The high-end model will be the AMG version C63 which will most likely come with a V8 6.2-liter that outputs 451 hp.

2011 Mini Countryman

Mini will be bringing their 2011 Countryman, which will be the first four full-sized doors Mini model sold in the United States. The car will be available in two trim levels: Base and S. The entry-level will get a 4-cylinder 1.6-engine that churns 120 hp while the high-end variant will feature a 4-cylinder 1.6-liter that produces 180 hp. Both of the models will get front-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

Mitsubishi will show us their Outlander Sport model which will be available in two trim levels: ES and SE. Both of the versions will pack a front-wheel drive system and a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter that outputs 148 hp. The ES will come with a 5-speed manual gearbox while the SE will get a CVT transmission and steering-wheel paddles for manual changing.

2011 Nissan Juke

Another Japanese automaker that will be heading out to Chicago this year will be Nissan with three models: the award-winning Leaf, the funky Juke and the sporty 2012 GT-R. We talked about the Leaf thousands of times, but here is a small presentation. The car will be available with two trims levels – SV and SL. Both of them will have the same lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor that outputs 107 hp. It can be charged at either a 110-volt or a 220-volt outlet. For the first type it will need 20 hours while for the second type it will need only 8 hours.

Porsche Cayman R

The guys over at Porsche will be bringing their 2012 Cayman R. This two-seater sports coupe will come with the third and newest trim, dubbed “R”. Unlike the entry-level trim or the S mode, the R has a 6-cylinder 3.4-liter power unit that outputs 330 hp, linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. It is also available with an optional 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual gearbox.

2011 Scion iQ

If you can’t afford the Aston Martin Cygnet, the next best thing is the Scion iQ. Featuring a 4-cylinder 1.3-liter engine that outputs 90 hp, this certainly won’t be the most powerful car at the Chicago Auto Show.

Scion will also be bringing the 2011 tC 2-door hatchback coupe which will be fitted with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder power unit that cranks up 180 hp, mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Toyota Prius v

Scion will not be going to Chicago without its parent company Toyota. Despite the fact that the Japanese automaker is the largest manufacturer in the world, they will be bringing only one model here (one that they already took to Detroit) – 2012 Prius v. The heart of the car will be a conventional 1.8-liter gasoline engine which will be paired with a battery-powered electric motor. The combined power will be 134 hp.

2012 Volkswagen Passat

The German automaker Volkswagen will be heading out to Chicago with the recently-launched 2012 Passat and the 2012 Eos. Presented first at Detroit, the Passat will be available in three different trim levels: S, SE and SEL. Engine options include the 4-cylinder 2.0-liter unit with 140 hp, 5-cylinder 2.5-liter with 170 hp and the high-end V6 3.6-liter with 280 ponies. The diesels will be available with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automated-manual gearbox. The 5-cylinder 2.5-liter will get either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The V6 engine will be fitted with a 6-speed dual-clutch automated manual gearbox.

The EOS will come with a power-retractable hardtop with an integrated sunroof. Under the hood it will feature a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter that produces 200 hp, mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automated-manual transmission.

2011 Volvo S60

Sweden will be represented at Chicago by Volvo with their sexy 2011 S60 model. This premium-midsize car will benefit from a 6-cylinder 3.0-liter turbocharged engine that will produce 300 hp and will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. At first, the car will be available in one single trim level, the T6. Later on this year, the Swedish automaker will be introducing the T6 R-Design which should be a real looker.

These are the most important cars that will be presented at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show. Some of them you might have already seen while others are a premiere (not many unfortunately).  From February 9th to February 20th, the automotive capital of the world will be Chicago. I am certainly starting to like the Qatar Motor Show as many automakers from all over the world come here and present some interesting special editions of their most popular models. At the beginning of this week we’ve seen VW roll out two special editions of their Touareg model; Lamborghini launched the Gallardo LP 560-4 Bicolore while Bentley introduced the Arabia Continental Flying Spur.

Porsche decided to take their turn and launched the 2011 Panamera 4S Middle East Exclusive Edition. By “exclusive” it means that it will only be available in the Middle East and the German automaker will only roll out 66 units of this beauty. According to some sources, this won’t be one of those cars that you can simply purchase by going down to the dealership. With other words, most of these units will be sold to some wealthy and important people in the region.

Regarding the exterior look of this limited series, nothing has really changed in comparison to the standard model, except for the commemorative plaque by the door. The front fascia remained the same, with its powerful contoured air intakes that replace the traditional radiator grille. The car’s wheel arches bring a slender shape that emphasizes the 911 “landscape” which can be found in a lot of the cars from Porsche made in the last 50 years.

In the back you will notice those muscular and imposing shoulders over the wheels with a swooping roofline, very Porsche-ish. For this special and limited edition, the guys over at Porsche decided to paint the car in a clean white pattern, dubbed Carrera White Metallic. Inside the cabin you will find the exquisite Carrera Red leather that complements the exterior look.

2011 Porsche Panamera 4S Middle East Exclusive Edition

The car will benefit from the same engine that can be found in the standard model. It means that it will be powered by a V8 4.8-liter that cranks up about 400 hp and is linked to the company’s PDK gearbox. For this limited series, the German engineers decided to install the Sport Chrono Plus Package as well as the PTM – Porsche Traction Management system with active 4WD. With these hardware specifications, the 2011 Porsche Panamera 4S Middle East Exclusive Edition is able to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 4.8 seconds, onto a top speed of 175 mph.

The company didn’t announced any pricing information about this special edition, but taking into consideration that the regular version has a base price of around $94,700, this Middle East Edition should be a little bit more expensive, probably well over $100,000.
