Preliminary Info – 2012 Honda Accord

2012 Honda Accord Sedan Type S

Yesterday, Honda released some details and the first official images of the upcoming European-spec 2012 Accord which will make its public appearance in March at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show. The car will be available in both sedan and Tourer configurations and will come with an updated exterior look that will feature new headlights and bumpers along with redesigned taillights.

Inside the cabin, the new Accord will be available with better finishes and materials, leather seats along with other improvements of this kind. The Type S models will pack exclusive half leather seats which will have a dark grey finish and black head lining.

2012 Honda Accord Tourer

Regarding the engines available, the Accord will come with a new 2.2-liter PS i-DTEC diesel unit that develops 150 hp and has a lower CO2 emissions level (9 g/km less with the 6-speed manual gearbox and 11 g/km less with the automatic transmission).

2012 Honda Accord

The Japanese automaker also affirmed that the high-end 2012 Honda Accord Type S will be available for the European market, featuring a 180 hp engine and bespoke interior and exterior styling. This new version will also benefit from the Auto High-Beam Support System and Active Cornering Lights.

Honda did not reveal any information about the price of the 2012 Accord but it should be announced quite soon as the sales will commence this April.

Honda Exhibits Civic Sedan And Coupe Concepts

Honda Civic Coupe Concept

Although advertised as concepts, the production versions of both the coupe and the sedan will look very similar to these if we were to judge the company’s history with concepts. This means that the upcoming Civic Coupe will have an Accord Coupe-inspired styling which should make it very appealing in our opinion, considerably better than the outgoing generation. If you are interested in the sedan version, it will look just about the same as the 2011 Civic. Although in the front it will look a little bit angrier in comparison to what you were accustomed to, the headlights along with the carried-over grille are very familiar to most of us as Honda decided to stick to what they know, and they know well.

Honda Civic Coupe Concept

According to what Honda said, for the first time in history, the natural-gas Civic will be available in all 50 states in comparison to previous generations when the cars were available only in selected areas. According to the press release, the i-VTEC (“intelligent” variable valve timing and Lift Electronic Control) technology will be more efficient for the upcoming 2012 models. The soon-to-be-released Hybrid version of the Civic will feature the latest generation of the IMA – Integrated Motor Assist gasoline-electric hybrid system and will have the very first application of a lithium-ion battery pack in a hybrid made by Honda.

Honda Civic Sedan Concept

Most of the upcoming Civic models will get the Eco Assist technology that is already available in the Insight and CR-Z hybrids. The 2012 Civic will be the first Honda model delivered in the United States that will benefit from the Eco Assist technology in a gas-only powered car. As we mentioned before, Honda will be working on expanding the availability of the gas-powered model (GX) which is at the moment the only OEM-built, dedicated CNG passenger vehicle that is assembled in the United States.

Honda Civic Sedan Concept

As far as safety is concerned, all of the 2012 Honda models will be fitted as standard with VSA – Vehicle Stability Assist. In addition, the upcoming 9th generation of the popular Civic will have the company’s proprietary ACE – Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure for managing the front collision energy.

2011 Chrysler 200 starts teasing us

2011 Chrysler 200 starts teasing us

After a huge amount of speculation, it seems that the all-new Chrysler 200 will replace the aging Sebring from the carmaker’s lineup.

The company has just started teasing us with a few shots depicting various elements of the new luxury sedan. As you can clearly see, the model is based on the 200C concept we saw a few years ago, but will tone it down and replace the electric powertrain with a conventional one.

According to the details revealed up until now, the base Chrysler 200 will sport a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which can be had with either a four- or a six-speed automatic. Those that want more power can upgrade to the already ubiquitous 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, rated at 283 HP and 263 lb-ft of torque. This unit will only be had with the six-speed automatic.

Expect more details and teaser shots in the following days, but Chrysler fans can already start celebrating the demise of the Sebring.

Audi A3 sedan once again rumored for US debut

It seems that slowly but surely the Audi A3 sedan is becoming a reality. That’s at least according to a brand new report coming from Germany.

Even though the regular A3 hatchback is getting by thanks to its green diesel image, the Ingolstadt manufacturer plans to really tug at the heart strings of American consumers by releasing a dedicated sedan model.

As you can clearly guess, the car would slot in below the larger A4 in terms of price, and offer a lower entry point into the Audi range for new customers. It will also be largely unchallenged, as BMW only offers the 1 Series as a coupe, and Mercedes-Benz isn’t really decided on if it will launch a smaller sedan, presumably based on the next B Class.

Do you think an A3 sedan would make sense in the USA? Share your thoughts below.

Lamborghini Estoque four-door might still appear

We’ve seen quite a lot of super sedans lately, with likes of the Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide or the Maserati Quattroporte fighting for the money of rich families.

According to a recent statement from Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann, the Italian company might also launch its own performance four-door model, in the vein of the Lamborghini Estoque concept we saw a couple of years ago.

According to the CEO, Lamborghini’s profits are down, due to the economic recession, so a third model might help boost sales and get the raging bull back on its tracks. A sedan model might be a winning idea, Winkelmann admits, but nothing has been decided at the Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters of Lamborghini.

As you know, the Estoque generated mixed responses when it was revealed in 2008, prompting the whole super sedan project to be put on hold. We’ve also heard recently that Lamborghini might also launch an entry-level V8 supercar, as well as a luxury SUV.

Currently though, Lamborghini only offers the Gallardo and the Murcielago, so until sales improve, things will remain the same.

2011 Hyundai Elantra arrives in the USA by the end of the year

2011 Hyundai Elantra arrives in the USA by the end of 2010

It seems that compact sedans are quickly becoming extremely popular in the USA, at least judging by the impressive array of new models set to arrive on the market. These include cars like the Chevrolet Cruze on the 2012 Ford Focus.

Now, a new contender is preparing for its own launch, the 2011 Hyundai Elantra.

We’ve already seen the Elantra be revealed in its native South Korea, at the Busan Motor Show, as the KDM-spec Hyundai Avante. At that time, no details were revealed about US availability. Now, as the Avante is hitting showrooms in its native country, Hyundai has confirmed that the 2011 Elantra will also be reaching US shores by the end of the year.

As you can see, the new model will boast the ‘Fluidic’ design we already saw on the bigger 2011 Sonata. In South Korea, the model is offered with the 1.6-liter Gamma inline-four cylinder engine, capable of 138 HP with 123 lb-ft of torque. While power figures aren’t all that impressive, it can achieve a combined fuel average of 38.8 mpg.

Expect more details about the US-spec 2011 Hyundai Elantra as we reach the end of 2010.

Chrysler 200C patent shots leaked

A lot of people were surprised at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show when the Chrysler 200C concept was revealed.

Afterwards, the model dropped off the radar, and with the bankruptcy and bailout, Chrysler had plenty of other things to worry about.

Now though, it seems that the 200C is making its way to production, at least judging from a batch of recent patent sketches leaked onto the web. The photos depict a model quite similar to the concept, but with a few more toned down elements.

We still don’t know much about this car though. According to rumors, it might replace the Sebring sedan, which will be axed in the near future by the Pentastar and its corporate overlord, Fiat.

If it will retain its bold design, and pack plenty of features, alongside the new Pentastar V6, then the Chrysler 200C might be a winner for the US company. What do you think? Share your thoughts below.

2011 Volkswagen Jetta gets customization treatment

Barely a few weeks have passed since the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta was revealed and the German company has already decided to showcase the customization potential its next generation sedan has.

As you can see above, the photo was taken by the guys from the VWvortex forum, and depicts a slightly customized 2011 Jetta at the Waterfest gathering.

A revised aerodynamic body kit was added, complete with a more aggressive front fascia, side skirts and a rear bumper. Tinted out windows, a dark decklid spoiler and a set of black wheels are in sharp contrast with the white paint job of the car.

No details were given, but you can expect almost all of these accessories to appear in the Volkswagen catalog as soon as the 2011 Jetta goes on sale this fall. For a price, you too will be able to get an extra bit of customization into the German sedan.

Lamborghini planning new SUV and entry-level V8 supercar, scraps sedan plans

The rumor mill has started spinning once more, this time powered by Car and Driver which says that Lamborghini is planning two new models that will take it into new directions, even though they have some predecessors.

According to the magazine, Lamborghini is planning a new luxury super-SUV. Lambo fans are sure to remember the company’s eccentric LM002 SUV, which was something like a cross between a Hummer and a regular Lamborghini supercar, being off-road ready and powered by a V12 engine.

According to the report, the new Lamborghini SUV might use the platform of the 2011 Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne. It will definitely use a bigger engine though, in order to produce adequate performance for regular Lambo fans.

Secondly, C/D says that an entry-level Lamborghini supercar, powered by a smaller V8 engine, as opposed to the V10 Gallardo or the V12 Murcielago, might also appear. This would also act as a spiritual successor to older Lambo models like the Urraco or Jalpa.

Last but not least, the super sedan plans of Lamborghini are reportedly scrapped, as the Estoque concept we saw some time ago hasn’t really generated the desired response. As such, Lamborghini will continue with the coupe body style.

Frankly, we’re a bit overwhelmed by these rumors, but seeing as how Volkswagen wants to further develop Lamborghini, an SUV and a smaller supercar are a possibility. What do you think? Share your thoughts below.

Next generation Chevrolet Aveo hatchback and sedan leaked through patent photos

After yesterday’s big leak of the Volkswagen Jetta Coupe, a new set of patent photos showcase another future model, the next generation Chevrolet Aveo.

As you can see above and below, GM has trademarked both the hatchback and the sedan versions of the 2012 Aveo with the US Patent Office.

Basically the two versions retain much of what we saw on the Aveo RS concept in Detroit and on the official photo of the sedan, afterwards.

The design is much more aggressive, in the vein of the upcoming Cruze sedan. The new Aveo will compete with the likes of the Fiesta, and pack a wide array of upgrades over the current generation, which, suffice to say, isn’t winning any awards.

We can expect the new Chevrolet Aveo to be showcased at the Paris Motor Show this fall, or at the LA Auto Show at the end of the year.

Peugeot officially reveals the new 508 sedan

After a lot of rumors, plenty of teasing and a special concept, the brand new Peugeot 508 sedan has officially been revealed.

For those that aren’t in the know, the 508 will replace both the smaller 407 and the bigger 607, and act as the flagship for the whole Peugeot range.

As you can see above, the new 508 takes cues from both the Peugeot SR1 concept, as well as the 5 by Peugeot prototype. While its looks may not be everyone’s cup of tea, expect certain elements to transcend into the smaller models from the range.

Engine-wise, you can expect an array of both petrol and HDi diesel units. Thanks to the PSA Peugeot Citroen group’s e-HDi technology, all diesel 508 version will feature Stop-Start systems.

A Hybrid4 version might also appear along the way. It will use a regular engine to power the front wheels, while the rear ones will be powered by an electric motor. According to those same rumors, the hybrid verison will boast four-wheel drive, 200 HP and an emissions rating of 99 g/km of CO2.

Last but not least, and this might be a bit of a long shot, while the 407 Coupe will continue to live on, the 508 might see a convertible version, with a folding hardtop.

The 2011 Peugeot 508 will make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show this September, and will be marketed both in Europe and in China.

Check out a few images with the new 508 below, and visit the full photo gallery for the rest.

2010 Suzuki Kizashi recalled over dashboard problem

The Suzuki Kizashi has been around for a pretty brief amount of time, but a recall has already been issued by the Japanese company for its sedan model.

It seems that one of the doors from a lower center box on the dashboard has a faulty mechanism which, in the case of an accident, may cause it to swing open. As you can imagine, given the right (or actually wrong) circumstances, this can cause some serious injuries.

As such, all 2010 Kizashi models, manufactured between October 13, 2009 and May 31, 2010, will be called back to dealerships, where a new door mechanism will be installed, free of charge.

For more details, you can contact Suzuki at 714-996-7040.

Video: 2011 Volkswagen Jetta officially revealed

After yesterday’s photo leak, the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta has been officially revealed by the German company.

As you can see, the new Jetta sports an increased size, thanks to an all-new platform, 3.5 inches longer than its predecessor, but also a new design, heavily influenced by the New Compact Coupe we saw a few months ago.

Gone is the half Golf half Passat Jetta which still managed to sell quite a number of units and now we have a much more attractive model, with increased size and upgraded systems that will replace the Passat in the US market.

Engine-wise, not a lot has changed, as US customers will still get the 2.5-liter inline-four and the 2.0-liter TDI units, present in the current Jetta, but also a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot, available in the Jetta GLI version. Manual and automatic transmissions are available, including the DSG seven-speed gearbox, optional for the turbocharged gasoline and the TDI.

A price has yet to be confirmed for the new Jetta, but voices are pegging it around $16,000.

You can check out the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta photo gallery below. A video presentation of the new sedan is located after the jump.

Next gen 2011 Volkswagen Jetta leaked before official debut

The current Volkswagen Jetta is nothing more than a sedan version of the Golf V. But the odd combination of a Golf front end and Passat rear hasn’t stopped it from becoming quite a best seller for the German company.

As such, the next generation, previewed by the New Compact Coupe concept, will have its own distinct personality, in order to attract more people.

Now, it seems that the aforementioned model has already been leaked onto the Internet, as three photos of the next generation, 2011 Volkswagen Jetta sedan have appeared.

The guys at AutoExpress have published the photos, which showcase a pretty attractive model. According to the magazine, the European version will get a choice of five engines, three using gasoline and two using diesel. On the gasoline side, a 104 HP 1.2-liter TSI, a 121 HP 1.4-liter TSI and a 200 HP 2.0-liter TSI will be available. The choice of oil burners is between a 104 HP 1.6-liter TDI and a 138 HP 2.0-liter TDI.

No word on what the US-spec Jetta will bear under its bonnet, but the official announcement from VW isn’t that far away, so stay tuned for more Jetta news.

Subaru reveals STI-tuned Legacy 2.5GT tS in sedan and wagon form

Subaru isn’t just about the Impreza and its numerous performance editions, as it has just revealed the newest creation of its STI tuning division, the Legacy 2.5GT tS.

In case you’re wondering, tS stands for ‘Tuned by STI’, which means that both the sedan and the wagon variants of the Legacy received a wide array of sporty and handling upgrades. Sadly, the 2.5-liter turbocharged Boxer engine hasn’t received any tweaks, keeping the power level at 265 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque.

Still, we’re pretty sure people will enjoy things like the enhanced aerodynamics, thanks to a restyled front bumper and a subtle rear spoiler. A set of 18-inch wheels were added, wrapped in performance tires. For the inside, customers will get a mix of leather and alcantara, complete with contrast stitching. STI branding is also par for the course.

The real improvements were made to the handling of the Legacy 2.5GT, as it received Bilstein suspension and new strut tower bars. Add in the upgraded sports exhaust system and you’ve got yourself a perfect ride for any self-respecting family person.

Sadly, the Subaru Legacy 2.5GT tS is exclusive to Japan, as only 600 models will be made. Still, you can bet STI is developing some upgrades for international Legacy models as well.
