2012 Toyota Prius C
The Japanese automaker Toyota has officially unveiled the Prius C compact hybrid hatchback at this year’s edition of the Detroit Motor Show. This is the fourth member in the Prius family and will be the most affordable hybrid from Toyota, with a base price tag of less than $20,000.
The car is considerably smaller in comparison to the mid-size Prius hatchback and Toyota expects that it will have a combined EPA rating of 50 mpg. The automaker is highlighting the C’s 53 mpg EPA rating which is the highest one among non plug-in cars commercialized in the United States. Its highway rating is of 46 mpg, which means that the combined rating is 50 mpg.
2012 Toyota Prius C
Toyota has said that the new Prius C is a subcompact model and it is 19 inches shorter in comparison to the regular Prius hatchback, almost 2 inches lower and 2 inches narrower. It will also be more than 500 pounds lighter than the standard Prius hatchback. According to the automaker, every single element of the Hybrid Synergy Drive system has been redesigned in order to lower the weight and the size of the parts. This more compact hybrid system is also implemented in the European version of the Yaris Hybrid.
The company has installed the fuel tank and the nickel-metal-hybrid battery pack under the rear seat, allowing for a deeper rear load bay in comparison to the one available for the bigger Prius hybrid which has its battery pack located under the car’s rear deck. According to Toyota, the C is capable of offering 17.1 cubic feet of cargo.
2012 Toyota Prius C
Toyota’s new model features an Atkinson Cycle 1.5-liter gasoline power unit that generates 73 hp and comes with a 60 hp (45 kW) electric motor-generator, which means that the total output is of 99 hp. Just like all of the recent Prius models, the driver of the C can switch between Normal, Eco and EV drive modes. At speeds of up to 25 mph, the 2012 Toyota Prius C can travel for less than a mile.
Scheduled to go on sale this spring, the car will be available with four different trim levels, while the cheapest model will set you back somewhere around $19,000. As standard, the car will feature a generous 3.5-inch color TFT information display, as well as iPod connectivity via USB port and Bluetooth hands-free mobile phone capabilities.

Also in the car’s standard configuration will be the automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, along with telescoping and tilting steering wheel with built-in audio controls. Those who want extra goodies can get the Prius C with 16-inch alloy wheels, a navigation system and Display Audio with the company’s own Entune infotainment and connectivity system.

This week, Toyota unveiled the Prius c model which is just about the same as the JDM Aqua. The hatchback will get its official debut in January 2012 at the North American International Auto Show and Toyota thinks that it is suitable for “youthful shoppers seeking fuel efficiency, technology, and spirited driving dynamics.”
We don’t have that many details to share, but we do know that the Prius c measures 157.3 inches long, 56.9 inches tall and it is 66.7 inches wide. Some of the tech goodies include Bluetooth support, an optional Entune infotainment system and audio controls on the steering wheel.
The car is motivated by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a small electric motor. At the moment we don’t have any official specs, but according to a brochure of the aforementioned JDM Aqua that leaked online a few days ago, the combined output of the car is of 99 hp (100 PS / 74 kW). The car maker mentioned that the new Prius c model will be able to return more than 50 mpg (60 mpg UK or 4.7 liters / 100 km) in the city.

The journalists from Auto Express.co.uk have managed to publish a few photos of the upcoming Toyota Prius C, photos that were taken from a leaked Japanese brochure. As you can see, the production version of the model will be more toned down than the concept that the Japanese automaker unveiled back in January at the Detroit Motor Show.
The model that will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in December will look quite similar with the bigger Prius and it will feature stepped headlights as well as clear tail lamps. As for the cabin, the centrally-mounted digital display and the steering wheel have been borrowed from the regular Prius.
From this brochure we learn that the Toyota Prius C is motivated by a 4-cylinder 1.4-liter engine and an electric motor for a total output of 99 hp. This horsepower is sent to the front wheels via a CVT gearbox. According to Toyota, the new model will be able to return 100 mpg on the Japanese test cycle so with the European standards it should do approximately 80 mpg UK. As for the CO2 emissions, these should be around 80 g/km.
According to a spokesperson from Toyota UK, the Prius C will not be available in Europe, at least not in the beginning. As you probably know, the automaker already has a small car in the form of the popular Yaris which in 2012 will get a hybrid variant. However, chances are that the Prius C, which is 5cm lower and 10cm longer than the new generation of the Yaris, will make it in Europe in the next years. Another Prius model that will arrive in Europe is the 7-seater Prius+ that will hit the dealerships in early 2012.

If you are in the market for a brand new 2011MY Toyota Prius hybrid, you’ll have a tough time finding one. It seems that the supply level is down to only 3,000 units which are enough for less than 10 days of sales. This situation in the automotive industry is called “sold out” and as a consequence, the dealers are now charging more money for the few Priuses that they have left in stock.
It was only last week when the Japanese automaker said that 75,000 units will reach the United States by the end of 2011. Toyota already promised to its dealers 36,000 Priuses over the course of this summer. In regular months, the company sells about 15,000 cars, but they managed to sell even 25,000 cars when the gas prices were high (May) and for this reason the inventory is very low at the moment. Another reason for the current situation is due to the severe impact of the March 11 earthquake, which lead to a terrible tsunami that caused a lot of issues to Japan’s industrial infrastructure, among other problems.
At the moment, Toyota is rolling out Priuses as fast as the factories that make components can deliver the necessary parts and it takes a long time before they reach stateside as the cars are shipped by sea and by long time we mean a couple of months of travel between the factory in Japan and the dealers in the United States.
Our recommendation would be to wait until this fall to buy a Toyota Prius hybrid, unless you want to pay a lot for getting one of the few ones available now.

2010 has been a great year for car leases in the UK as well. The end of 2010 was marked by the announced VAT raise to 20% that determined dealers to impress and attract their clients with all sorts of incentives like free insurance, affordable finance deals, discounts and many more. Manufacturers like Volvo or Hyundai decided to give customers the chance to swap their old cars for a massive discount on their new car. But even if you weren’t interested in swapping your car, you could benefit from the discounts offered by Renault and Vauxhall for the clients that were able to pay up front.
Let’s know take a look the 2010 UK best car leases. One example would be the lease of a Mercedes SLK Roadster for only £332 a month. That’s a bargain price for a gorgeous convertible offered by FinanceAcar.co.uk. The offer was limited, but all you needed to do was to register on the website and wait for a call from the lease company in order to establish all the necessary details. This is considered one of the most valuable Mercedes models because of its good enough performance, affordable price and also affordable running cost.
The small car segment was also filled with great lease deals. So if you were interested in leasing a smart car, the 2010 UK best smart car lease was the offer for the Nissan Micra. At only £129 a month, this Nissan Micra 3rd Hatchback 1.2 Visia was a lease agreement that many of us would have been happy to sign. With looks that transform it into a charming smart car and a manufacturer that is known for the quality and longevity of the cars it produces, the Micra could not be forgotten by my list.
Who doesn’t love the Toyota Prius and at £267 a month, I started to love it even more in 2010. This was definitely another incredible lease deal despite the recent recall problem that affected the company. The sales weren’t that affected and Toyota has seriously handled the problem. That price for a green car is not bad at all, especially considering that we are talking about a car with a fresh look, highly stylish because of all the glass used and the rakish roof angle.
Fiat was on top of its game as well, offering one of the best 2010 UK car lease deals for the Fiat500. For just £167 a month, you were getting this iconic car capable of helping you to easily make your way through the crowded traffic. It’s a cutie on wheels offering enough space for the driver and the passenger along with safety measures and an engine that will keep you safe on the road.
Last but not least, the Vauxhall Astra Sporthatch was another excellent deal at £213 a month offered by one of the top lenders in the UK and also by the manufacturer’s finance houses. The car’s quality is impressive as well as its behavior on the road and the engine that makes it all possible. All these qualities have turned it into a desirable acquisition that for that lease price was one of the 2010 UK best car lease deals.
Leasing it’s always an option if you can’t afford buying a new car or you just like the idea of changing your car with a brand new one every two or three years. And with this lease deals available, who can blame you? I sure don’t, because I know that 2011 will be offering even more incredible deals, harder to ignore and forget about.

Achievement Unlocked – Selling One Million Priuses In The U.S.
Despite the fact that recent reports say that in California (at least) Toyota is running out of Priuses, the Japanese automaker has reached an important milestone – selling one million units of this eco-friendly model in the United States.
Back in mid-2008, the automaker said it had sold one million Priuses around the world, which was a pretty big deal. To achieve this performance, Toyota needed about five years. Since the introduction of the second generation which occurred in 2003, sales went sky high and they needed only two more years to sell another million cars. As of October last year, the automaker has sold more than three million hybrids, which is pretty darn impressive if you ask me.

Toyota Has Reached The Three Million Hybrid Mark
The biggest car manufacturer in the world, Toyota, has managed to sell more than three million hybrid cars around the world since it introduced its first model, the Coaster Hybrid EV bus in 1997, followed that same year by the first generation of the very popular Prius model. More than one million of these sales were achieved since August 2009.
At the moment, the Japanese automaker offer 16 different hybrid models and pretty soon they will launch a couple of variations of the aforementioned Prius. The company’s luxury division, Lexus, is offering a gas-electric option for the LS, GS and RX models, along with two dedicated hybrids, the HS and the CT.
By the end of next year, Toyota said that they will add 10 more hybrid models to the global market.
Kudos to Toyota!

European-spec Toyota Prius+
Yesterday at Geneva, Toyota unveiled the European version of the Prius+ MPV, known in the United States as the Prius V where it has only five seats. The EU-spec model will be available with a seven-seat configuration and sales will commence early next year according to the manufacturer. In addition, it will have three middle row seats that can be folded individually (instead of the US 60/40 split) and a 50/50 folding third-row seat.
European-spec Toyota Prius+
The car will have a fuel consumption of about 5.9 liters / 100 km thanks to the hybrid powertrain and a very low drag coefficient of only 0.29. It will be the first Toyota non-plug-in hybrid that will use a lithium-ion battery pack and it will feature three driving modes: EV, ECO and POWER, just like the Prius.

What Is The Plural Of The Word “Prius” ?
The Japanese automaker Toyota is still trying to find out what is the plural of the word “Prius”. James Lipton, the host of Inside the Actor’s Studio decided to help them. He sits down with Shakespeare, MC Flossary, Randall the Octopus, a spelling bee champion and a group of cheerleaders.
Each guest casts his vote for the correct plural; the voting is still open on Toyota’s Prius Family website. At the moment, the word “Prii” has 40% of the votes, followed by “Priuses” with 27%. The other votes were cast to “Prius”, ”Prium” and “Prien”. I think that “Priuses” is the obvious choice.
The voting will end on February 20th when a winner will be announced, probably “Prii”.
In this video you’ll see Lipton having a chat with Shakespeare.
