CFC StylingStation unveils VW Golf 6 GTI tuning job

Volkswagen Golf VI GTI by CFC StylingStation

One of the graphics firms that specializes in custom vehicle exterior vinyl foils is CFC StylingStation and for their latest project they chose the hot Volkswagen Golf 6 GTI but aside from creating a new vinyl for the hot hatch, they also made some other changes worthy of a proper tuning program.

Volkswagen Golf VI GTI by CFC StylingStation

The first thing that they did is install a custom bodykit from Kerscher that includes 2.5cm widened fenders and a front bumper carbon-lip spoiler – with both of them carrying a price tag of 800 Euro. For an additional 1,200 Euro you get the new rear diffuser, side sills, engine cover, mirror caps – all wrapped around in carbon fiber from Black-Gold-Design.

Volkswagen Golf VI GTI by CFC StylingStation

On one side of this GTI there are red ASA GT3 rims while on the other side there are pink ASA GT1 rims, both sets measuring 8.5 x 19 inches. All these wheels are wrapped around in Hankook EvoS1 225/35R19 rubbers, and each wheel set will set you back no less than 2,400 Euro. As for the front wheel hubs, these feature Eibach spacers, while at the back we find 5mm H&R wheel disks.

Volkswagen Golf VI GTI by CFC StylingStation

The APX AP coilovers cost 779 Euro and they work in combination with H&R stabilizers in order to improve the driving dynamics of this Golf 6 GTI. For an additional 949 Euro you can get the TUV-certified braking system which features four-piston calipers, ultra light floating aluminum hub and two-piece, carbon-steel grooved brake discs.

Volkswagen Golf VI GTI by CFC StylingStation

Probably the biggest change occurs under the hood of the car where we find the MR Car Design’s turbo kit which is priced at 2,200 Euro. The output of the GTI’s engine is increased from the standard 207 hp (210 PS / 155 kW) to 266 hp (270 PS / 199 kW) and a maximum torque of 400 Nm.

Volkswagen Golf VI GTI by CFC StylingStation

We should also mention that special matt gray foiling which costs an extra 1,400 Euro which is more than just pricey. Let’s not forget that the roof of this GTI is wearing a High Gloss Carbon Black finish which will set you back yet another 550 Euro. For 250 Euro more you can opt for the Sticker Bombing cartoonish collage design for the front bumper grille and the right side fender.

Volkswagen Golf VI GTI by CFC StylingStation

Full details about the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

At the 82nd edition of the Geneva Motor Show, the German automaker Mercedes-Benz has introduced the SL63 AMG and now we have official details about its bigger brother, the SL65 AMG which is the top-ranging model of the SL class. This new model features an aluminum body shell along with other weight-saving measures that the less powerful cousins have, managing to lower the weight of the car by 170kg to 1950kg, which is still a lot in our humble opinion.

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

Anyway, at the heart of the all-new Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG is an updated version of the V12 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine that powered the older model, but it has suffered a few modifications in the inlet and exhaust systems. While the previous version of the engine managed to deliver 603 hp, the new SL65 AMG packs no less than 621 hp which is more than the SLS model. This amount of horsepower is available between 4800 and 5400 rpm, offering the two-seat roadster a power-to-weight ratio of 318 hp / ton. The maximum torque generated by the engine is limited to 737 lb.-ft which is available between 2300 and 4300 rpm.

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

This means that the engine produces 91 hp and 111 lb.-ft more than one found in the SL63 AMG which is a V8 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged unit. At the same time, it generates 64 hp and 73 lb.-ft more than the SL63 AMG version fitted with the Performance Package (optional feature), which by the way can’t be ordered for this new SL65 AMG.

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

This impressive V12 power unit is driving the rear wheels of the car through the company’s seven-speed 7G-tronic automatic gearbox. The engine comes with a whole bunch of BlueEfficiency features, including the automatic stop/start function. As for the SL63 AMG, this one utilizes a less impressive 5G-Tronic gearbox which has been around for a good chunk of time.

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

Thanks to these hardware modifications, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG is 17% more efficient and is capable of returning 24.4 mpg UK, while CO2 emissions stand at 270 g/km. The car needs only 4 seconds to do the 0-62 mph sprint, which is 0.3 seconds quicker than the SL63 AMG. The maximum top speed achieved by the SL65 AMG is electronically limited to 155 mph.

2012 Geneva Motor Show – ItalDesign Brivido

ItalDesign Brivido

A luxurious four-seat sporting GT envisioned by VW Group-owned ItalDesign Giugiaro is this Brivido (meaning “thrill” in Italian). The car is almost five meters long and was designed by Giugiaro, the same company that was responsible for the styling of the Scirocco and the original Golf.

ItalDesign Brivido

At the heart of this concept is a 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine linked to an electric motor and an 8-speed automatic gearbox, managing to deliver 355 hp and 339 lb.-ft of torque. This RWD concept needs only 5.8 seconds for doing the 0-62 mph sprint, on its way to a top speed of 171 mph. the ItalDesign Brivido has CO2 emissions of 154 g/km.

ItalDesign Brivido

This is a vehicle that measures 4980 mm long, 1298 mm high and 1960 mm wide, while its wheelbase is of 2910 mm long. It has been fitted as you can see with cool gullwing doors that offer an easy cabin access for both front & rear passengers. The developers of this concept have used a lot of glass for forming a “glass dome” that manages to increase visibility.

ItalDesign Brivido

We also notice LED light clusters, cameras instead of the usual side mirrors which display images on the steering column’s top. Other than that, the ItalDesign Brivido rides on massive 21-inch alloys and the engineers have used a lot of carbon fiber for both the front and rear of the vehicle. Inside the cabin it packs an iPad docking station as well as two LCD screens from where the driver will have access to all of the important functions of the vehicle.

Geneva Motor Show – VW Cross Coupe Concept

Volkswagen Cross Coupe

One of the many concepts introduced at the 82nd edition of the Geneva Motor Show was this Volkswagen Cross Coupe which is an SUV that previews the upcoming new generation of the Tiguan. It benefits from an advanced 4WD system that showcases the all-new plug-in diesel-electric hybrid system that the German carmaker is working on for a lineup of upcoming frugal production vehicles.

Volkswagen Cross Coupe

The VW Cross Coupe concept has a curb weight of 1858kg and manages to return 157 mpg UK and has CO2 emissions of just 46g/km. The car develops no less than 380 hp and can hit a top speed of 137 mph. It offers a range of up to 800 miles.

Volkswagen Cross Coupe

This would have to be the second version of the concept, as the first one was shown at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show which came with a gasoline-hybrid system. The new version connects a 187 hp version of the company’s new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder common-rail EA288 diesel with a couple of electric motors. One of these motors is installed up front and it can deliver 54 hp to the front wheels while the other motor is located at the back and has 114 hp for driving the rear wheels. These two electric motors are driven by the 9.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Volkswagen Cross Coupe

The top speed that the Volkswagen Cross Coupe concept can achieve in electric mode is of 80 mph and it can be driven for up to 28 miles in this mode. There is a switch installed on the center console of the vehicle which allows the driver to change between electric and hybrid drive modes. When running in electric mode, there is a clutch which will be opened in order to disengage the diesel power unit, thus diminishing mechanical drag. This diesel engine will start to top out the battery in the event in which additional battery charge is necessary for powering those two electric motors we’ve mentioned.

Nissan reveals DeltaWing racer

Nissan DeltaWing

The Japanese automaker Nissan is a founding partner in the DeltaWing project that will be a part of this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours event. The vehicle is powered by a 4-cylinder, 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and it has 50% of the weight and 50% of the aerodynamic drag of a regular racer.

Nissan DeltaWing

Organized between 16th and 17th of June, the Le Mans 24 hours is as you probably know one of the most difficult races in the world. The DeltaWing won’t be allowed to compete in the overall classification, but it will be a very good occasion for Nissan to show off its new racer.

Nissan DeltaWing

The design of the DeltaWing belongs to British designer Ben Bowlby who lives in the United States. It is the work of Don Panoz who is an American motorsport entrepreneur, along with the All-American Racers organization of Dan Gurney, Michelin and Highcroft Racing team.

Nissan DeltaWing

The engine that powers the DeltaWing is known as the DIG-T and has the same technology as the one found in Nissan’s road cars, including the top-spec Juke DIG-T. The term “DIG-T” refers to direct injection gasoline – turbocharged. This power unit is said to output no less than 300 hp so it should make the DeltaWing as fast as some of the LMP1 and LMP2 vehicles.

Nissan DeltaWing

In this interesting vehicle, the driver sits back in the car, looking ahead down a long and narrow fuselage. He is actually sitting almost over the rear axle and the car rides on narrow thin front tires that have been specially developed by Michelin for the vehicle. The engine is mounted at the rear and thanks to the fact that the car has a strong rearward weight bias, the DeltaWing is very maneuverable.

The Nissan DeltaWing will participate in the “Garage 56” which is the area in the pitlane that is reserved for experimental vehicles. The car will be wearing the number “0” and the first two drivers which already have been confirmed are Michael Krumm and Marino Franchitti.
