Lamborghini Insecta

All around the world the Lamborghini brand is known for its outlandish and incredible supercars. Everybody knows that supercars like the Miura, the Countach or the Murcielago have changed the meaning of the word “car” and have become the most desired supercars in man’s history. But the latest concept car released by Lamborghini is the start of a new improved era.

The name Lamborghini is usually associated with the fierce bull emblem that represents the Lamborghini Company all over the world. But in the case of the Lamborghini Insecta (a concept car created in 2009) the association went to the next level, bringing in the spotlight a really interesting and futuristic design.

The story of this “alien” concept car is told by its designer, Iulian Bumbu, a Romanian car designer who interned at the styling department of Alfa Romeo after he finished his studies and got the master degree in car design in Milan. He said that the design is a mixture of the brand’s style and of elements inspired by the insect’s exoskeletons. The intention was to create an “extreme race-oriented supercar” with softer and more organic lines integrated into the geometrical style of Lamborghini. This incredible type of armored appearance is much more visible when looking to a rear or a top view.

Lamborghini Insecta

This modern piece of art gives you the illusion that is a hybrid between a Ferrari’s rear end and a Lamborghini’s front end. Moreover, the back of the Lamborghini Insecta has curvy lines especially in areas such as the roof or the rear wheel arches while the front of the car is actually angular with sharp edges and hard creases.

The Lamborghini Insecta is an aggressive two seats supercar with a highly aerodynamic body frame inspired from the insect world. The supercar has a glass sky roof that allows you a pick inside the incredible cutting-edge cockpit. When you step into the car the deep bucket seats and the U-shaped jet steering wheel invite you to take a ride and to really feel the adrenaline flowing through your veins.

This Lamborghini’s dimensions are the same as those of the Lamborghini Gallardo. That means a length of 4,300 mm, a height of 1,000 mm and a 2,000 mm width with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. The carbon-fiber is the main material used for the body structure and the panels, but not for the winged scissor doors and the wide set eyes. Moreover, the Lamborghini Insecta has a glass engine cover that blends into the glass roof and provides a clear view of the engine.

If the external design takes your breath away and sends you in a futuristic trip, the key word that describes the under the hood area is super-speed. This supercar borrows its high technology from the Lamborghini Gallardo. So, you will be handling a 5 liters V10 engine placed in the middle. The engine outputs 412 kW at 8000 rpm and will probably be faster than the Gallardo. If Gallardo goes from zero to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, the new supercar (if will be ever built) will achieve the same speed in 3.6 seconds.

Even if the Lamborghini Insecta (considering the opinions of field specialists) still needs some engineering improvements, the design is incredible. We could say that the Lamborghini Insecta concept is the best example of a winner fusion between high technology and nature. I think that in the future we will have the opportunity to actually drive this incredible car and that we will also have the opportunity to admire some other unimaginable supercars as well.
