Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Super Sport

Our colleagues from WorldCarFans have managed to take a couple of spy shots with the upcoming Super Sport version of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport (convertible version). We believe that it is the hotter SS version because the bumpers look very similar to the ones on the Veyron Super Sport, only this time the air intakes are bigger and fixed.

A few weeks ago, the company’s president Wolfgang Durheimer said something about a more powerful version of the Grand Sport that will output more hp than the regular Veyron which has 987 hp (1001 PS / 736 kW) and a peak torque of 922 lb.-ft (1,250 Nm).

We’ll have to wait and see the end result.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Sang Noir

As you probably already know, Bugatti has stopped making the Veyron Super Sport so your chances of buying a brand new one are zero. However, if you really want the car and you can afford to pay an insane amount of money for it, you should know that a British luxury car dealer by the name of Tom Hartley has one for sale right now.

The dealer has the bespoke model that was exhibited at this year’s edition of the Geneva Motor Show and comes with tangerine seats and a gorgeous matte black paint. The car has been barely driven as the odometer reads 864 miles (1,390 km).

We almost forgot about the asking price – $3.4 million (2.4 million Euro / 2.1 million pounds)!

Bugatti impressed a lot of people when it presented the Veyron hypercar, which broke the world speed record for a production model. Soon after that, Shelby Super Cars revealed the Ultimate Aero TT model, which stole the crown from the European company.

As you no doubt know by now, Bugatti fought back a few months ago, and released the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, which achieved a new world record of 267.81 mph.

As soon as the news hit, rumors began to fly around that SSC would gladly pick up the gauntlet and reveal an improved Ultimate Aero, to take down the Veyron SS.

Now, the first shots of the SSC Ultimate Aero II have been leaked, and posted by the guys at Jalopnik. The new model is much more attractive than the TT, and you can clearly see the work of Jason Castriota, now lead designer at Saab.

No other details are know, but you can be sure that this car is built with just one purpose, taking the world speed record from the Veyron Super Sport and bringing it back to the USA.

The automotive industry was plunged into a state of shock when the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport model was revealed, alongside its newest performance, breaking the world’s fastest production car speed record, achieving 267 mph.

Soon afterwards, Top Gear magazine did hint that it had something to do with the performance and with the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

Now, as a preview for the August issue of the magazine, Top Gear has officially revealed that James May, a presenter of the famous car show, had a very impressive run in the new Bugatti. According to the mag, May, nicknamed Captain Slow, reached 259.11 mph in the Veyron Super Sport.

This isn’t the first time May pushed a Bugatti to its limit, as he reached 253 mph a few years ago, in a standard Veyron model.

If you want to check out the complete story, then you have to wait for the Top Gear August issue to hit the stands wherever you live.

A few years ago, Bugatti received plenty of accolades for building the Veyron, which broke the world’s fastest production car record, achieving 253 mph.

Soon after, SSC (Shelby SuperCars) revealed the Ultimate Aero model (pictured above), which, thanks to its twin-turbo 6.2-liter V8, capable of 1,183 HP, broke that record, achieving 256 mph.

As you all know, a few days ago, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport was revealed, which broke the Aero’s record, achieving 268 mph.

SSC released an official statement, through which it congratulates Bugatti for its impressive effort.

“We would sincerely like to congratulate Bugatti… When the Ultimate Aero broke the record in 2007, we knew it was just a matter of time until it was broken by someone else.”

Still, that doesn’t mean SSC won’t put up a fight, as it continues in the statement to hit at a new supercar, which will be even more powerful than the Ultimate Aero, and take back the world record from the Germans.

“[W]e’ve been working on a new project to debut before the end of the summer. Not much can be said at this time except that we’ll be upping the ante on all fronts. Having famed American designer Jason Castriota as our lead design enables SSC to reflect its engineer and performance in its aesthetics. It’s impossible for us to be more thrilled about having him on board and we’re anxious to show the world what we have up our sleeve.”

So, it seems that design is a done deal, thanks to Castriota, and SSC just needs to upgrade the existing technologies from the Ultimate Aero. Hopefully its engineers will be able to come up with something impressive.

Either way, we’re in for one heck of a battle.

What started out as just a rumor is now official, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport high performance edition has been revealed.

The Veyron really broke the mold in terms of hypercars, and was a testament to the engineering (and funding) of both Bugatti and (especially) its parent company, Volkswagen.

Now, as a fitting end to the life cycle of the glorious model, the company has announced the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport.

What’s so great about this new Veyron edition? How about the fact that it upgrades the output of the massive 16-cylinder engine from the already famous 1,001 HP to a whopping 1,200 HP. Throw in a torque rating of 1,106 lb-ft, and you will certainly be experiencing the best of the best.

Why do we say that? In order to really demonstrate the potential of the Veyron Super Sport, Bugatti took the car on the VW test track. There, with German officials and Guiness World Record representatives, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport model achieved a new world speed record for a production model. The value achieved was 267.81 mph or 431.07 km/h.

The Veyron Super Sport, besides the increased output, also boasts other changes, in order to make it resilient to the high speed abuse it will no doubt receive in the hands of customers. As such, an optimized suspension system has been added, while the chassis was strengthened. As a special treat, the skin of the car is made completely out of carbon fiber composites, which can be decorated, at request, with a clear coat that leaves the carbon exposed.

The first five Veyron Super Sport models are part of a World Record edition, boasting the same paint scheme, black exposed carbon and orange finish. Before you reach for that wallet though, they have already been sold out. Still, you can check out the car at the upcoming Pebble Beach Concours, this August.

Until then, you can admire the new hypercar in the photo gallery below.
