Volkswagen Caravelle Edition 25

400HP VW Polo rally prototype from Poland

VW Polo racing prototype

A Polish racing team led by Paul Dytko has created this Volkswagen rally prototype, in preparation for the upcoming 2012 FIA European Hill-Climb Championship season. This is a custom built car and has nothing to do in common with the Volkswagen Motorsport’s Polo R WRC. The rally prototype features an impressive turbo engine that develops 400 hp (405 PS / 298 kW) and it allows the car to do the 0-62 mph sprint in approximately 4 seconds.

VW Polo racing prototype

As you would imagine, the costs for developing such a car are quite huge and Dytko’s team is still looking for sponsors who are willing to sponsor the evolution of the car, the next step being the introduction of a full steel tube chassis.

VW Passat Alltrack announced

Volkswagen Passat Alltrack

Set to be officially unveiled next week during the Tokyo Motor Show, the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack will be making an appearance in the showrooms next year. This is a more rugged version of the Passat estate and comes with an all-wheel drive configuration in the United Kingdom and will be slotted between the regular Passat estate and the Tiguan.

Volkswagen Passat Alltrack

UK buyers will be able to order the car with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine that fires 138 hp or 168 hp, and it comes fitted with the company’s 4Motion all-wheel drive technology. In the rest of Europe, the Passat Alltrack is going to be available with a FWD configuration and gasoline engines. The 138 hp diesel engine will be linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the beefier one is mated to a 6-speed DSG.

Volkswagen Passat Alltrack

The German car maker has stated that the Alltrack version of the Passat estate has real off-road capabilities, something that is emphasized with both equipment and styling. The front and rear bumpers have been revised and now adopt a more Tiguan-like appearance, while the Touareg-inspired flared wheel arches will be wrapped around in black plastic cladding. Even though there are some changes to the exterior of the car, the Alltrack Passat’s dimensions are the same as the ones of the regular Passat estate, standing at 4771 mm and 1820 mm respectively.

Volkswagen Passat Alltrack

The approach angle is 16 degrees while the departure angle is 13.6 degrees and the breakaway angle is 12.8 degrees. All of these have been increased in comparison to the Passat estate while the suspension has been raised by 30 mm in order to provide a higher ground clearance which now is of 165 mm.

Volkswagen Passat Alltrack

Another feature that makes this model different from the regular estate version is the Off-Road Driving Program that is borrowed from the Tiguan and the Touareg. It can electronically tune various equipment like the ABS, electronic differential, hill descent, torque control, while the models fitted with the DSG gearbox it can tune the transmission to provide a more focused off-road drive. This system is available up to a speed of 18 mph.

Volkswagen Passat Alltrack

In the United Kingdom, the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack will be offered in only one trim level and will have 18-inch alloys and Alcantara upholstery. Most likely, the car will be available for ordering in April next year and the first deliveries will be made later on in July. We don’t have any details about the price tag of the car but it is safe to assume that it will be more expensive than the Passat estate.

The German automaker Volkswagen revealed a few days ago at the Los Angeles Auto Show the new generation of the CC model which will no longer carry the “Passat” designation. VW Beetle R Concept unveiled in L.A.

VW Beetle R Concept

Even though VW says that this is only a concept, most likely the production version will look just about the same. At this year’s edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show, the German automaker Volkswagen has brought the Beetle R Concept, a car that was developed by the same engineers who were in charge of the Scirocco R and the Golf R models.

VW Beetle R Concept

As a reminder, the Beetle Turbo is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that generates 200 hp, but VW said that this power unit can easily pump out at least 60-70 hp more. The car is based on the third generation of the Beetle and it has a 30mm wider front bumper, 20-inch Talladega 5-spoke alloy wheels, 15mm widened wheel arches and beefier blue R brake calipers. At the back there’s a rear wing, four tail pipes and a diffuser.

VW Beetle R Concept

Moving inside the cabin of the VW Beetle R Concept we find a bunch of glossy black accents for the dashboard, aluminum pedals, bucket sport seats wrapped around in Nappa leather, along with redesigned instruments.

2013 Volkswagen CC revealed

2013 Volkswagen Passat CC

The original Volkswagen Passat CC came out about four years ago and in that time the German automaker has managed to sell more than 270,000 units. To avoid a midlife crisis, VW has decided that the sleek four-door coupe needs a facelift and this is what they’ve come up with.

2013 Volkswagen Passat CC

The car is scheduled to make its official debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show which will be organized later on this month. The front of the Passat CC has been redesigned with a new flashy chrome-trimmed grille, along with revised headlamps that now have a ring of LEDs, and they also worked on the bumper. Looking at the back we notice the LED taillights, a revised bumper and a reshaped boot lid. The exterior updates end with a bunch of new colors and new designs for the rims.

2013 Volkswagen Passat CC

As for the interior cabin, the 2013 VW Passat CC features stainless steel door sills, a new audio system, a fatigue detection system, as well as safety head restrains that have additional longitudinal adjustment for the seats in the front.

2013 Volkswagen Passat CC

With the new model year, the German car maker will also offer new assistance systems like the Side Assist Plus with built-in Lane Assist or the Dynamic Light Assist as well as a camera-based traffic sign detection system.

2013 Volkswagen Passat CC

For the U.S. market, the four-door coupe will be powered by the same engines as the outgoing model, including here the 2.0-liter TSI power unit that develops 200 hp and the beefier 3.6-liter FSI that outputs 280 hp. The situation will remain the same also for the European model as the car will get the same gasoline and diesel engines, with outputs that will range from 140 hp to 300 hp. The most frugal version of the Passat CC is motivated by a 2.0 TDI that develops 140 hp and manages to return 50 mpg (4.7 liters / 100 km).

2013 Volkswagen Passat CC

The car will go on sale at first in Germany in February next year, followed by the rest of Europe, North America, Russia and other sales regions. China will get in 2013 its own version of the Passat CC.

VW will probably become largest automaker this year

2012 VW Passat

As we reported a few months ago, Volkswagen AG plans on becoming the world’s largest carmaker in the world by selling 10 million vehicles annually by 2018. However, they might become the best-selling carmaker by the end of this year, according to a report published by Bloomberg.

A survey of the company’s sales projections shows that the German automaker will sell 13% more cars this year in comparison to 2010, with a total sales volume of 8.1 million vehicles. General Motors will be able to deliver 8% more cars this year, with a grand total of 7.55 million units, while Toyota will sell 9% less cars this year, which means that they’ll deliver 7.27 million units. The reason why Toyota’s sales are down is due to the tsunami disaster that hit Japan this past March which meant less deliverable cars.

Volkswagen is doing a great job in China, which is at the moment the world’s biggest car market, where they managed to sell 20% more cars this year. So far in 2011, the total Volkswagen Group sales, including all of its brands, have gone up by 16% to an impressive 6.2 million cars.

16 People Squeezed In The VW Up!

VW Up!

There is a common trend among automakers that launch small city cars to try and prove that these vehicles are very spacious. The latest example comes from Volkswagen who took 16 of its employees and stuffed them inside the recently introduced Up! model. Two of them were in the trunk, another one on the dash, seven of them on the back seat, two in the footwells under the dash and four on the front seats. What they did is pretty impressive since the VW Up! measures only 3.54 meters long and it’s 1.64 meters wide.

VW Up!

Other recent attempts we should mention include the one from last year when 20 students were stuffed in an original VW Beetle. Another example is from 2001 when not more than 27 students from Penn State Abington got inside a New Beetle.

VW Up!

Although this isn’t an original idea since car cramming started back in the 50s, this still remains a pretty efficient marketing idea that VW has implemented for the Up! which will go on sale in Germany on December 2nd.

JE Design Launches Wide-body Kit For VW Touareg

VW Touareg By JE Design

The German tuners from JE Design have developed a brand new bodykit for the VW Touareg lineup, including the R-line models. This bodykit consists of a new front spoiler, grille, front & rear widening wheel arches, a tailgate panel and a rear apron insert. The Touareg now rides on a new set of SUV-Select 22-inch alloys wrapped around in high-performance tires that measure 295/30R22 on all four corners. In addition, they’ve installed a wheel spacer kit (30 mm front / 40 mm rear).

VW Touareg By JE Design

Aside from the bodykit and the wheels, JE Design has a power boost for the Touareg. The 4.2-liter TDI gets an ECU remap so the horsepower figure goes up from the standard 335 hp (340 PS / 250 kW) and 590 lb.-ft (800 Nm) to 404 hp (410 PS / 302 kW) and 686 lb.-ft (930 Nm) of torque. With this upgrade, the Touareg is capable of doing the 0-62 mph sprint in 5.4 seconds, which is 0.4 seconds quicker than the standard version of the car. It can hit a top speed of 167 mph (269 km/h) which is considerably higher than the 150 mph (242 km/h) of the standard car.

VW Touareg By JE Design

The German SUV is also brought closer to the ground by 35mm thanks to the new suspension-lowering module. Other than that, it packs a dual exhaust system that has stainless steel oval pipes, while inside the cabin they’ve used Alcantara for the roof liner, door panels and the dashboard.
