Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible En Route To L.A. Auto Show – rpmGo.com

2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible

In November at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Detroit-based automaker General Motors will bring the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible. This exciting new soft-top model is based on its Coupe sibling and will go on sale in late next year as a 2013MY. The most impressive thing about it is the massive LSA V8 6.2-liter supercharged engine that is capable of firing 580 hp (432 kW) and a peak torque of 556 lb.-ft (754 Nm).

Since it lacks a unifying roof structure, Chevrolet’s engineers had to add a tower-to-tower brace under the bonnet, an underbody tunnel brace, a transmission support reinforcement brace, rear underbody “V” braces, a stiffer cradle and a front “X” brace.

They also made other structural reinforcements in order to improve vibration and noise characteristics while at the same time diminish body and ride motions. Some of these changes include an inner reinforcement bracket located in the windshield header, a hydrofoamed tube for the A-pillars, reinforcements inside the rockers and a reinforced front hinge pillar.
