Toyota GRMN SPORTS HYBRID Concept II

During the 2012 edition of the Tokyo Auto Salon, the Japanese automaker Toyota revealed an interesting concept study that was based on the MR2 roadster. It was a front-wheel drive hybrid sports car that was developed in partnership with GAZOO Racing. A year after that and now we see the successor of that concept.

Toyota GRMN SPORTS HYBRID Concept II

Dubbed GRMN SPORTS HYBRID Concept II, the second iteration of the model will make its first public appearance this weekend during the 39 edition of the famous 24h endurance race at Nurburgring, Germany. If you are curious what “GRMN” means, you should know that it comes from GAZOO Racing tuned by Meister of Nurburgring, honoring the late Hiromu Naruse who passed away last year, Toyota’s chief test driver and the head of the GAZOO Racing Team, who died in 2010 while driving in Germany a prototype of the Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition.

The new concept benefits from an entirely new design and features an upgraded AWD hybrid system. The car is powered by a V6 3.5-liter engine that produces 249 hp, along with the electric motors that drive the rear wheels. The gearbox of the concept is mounted in the middle while in the front there is another electric motor which is responsible for driving the wheels.

VW Golf R Cabriolet Concept

Another interesting concept revealed this year at the Worthersee show is the Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet, which is the fastest open-top Golf ever created. It was conceived in order to demonstrate the “inexhaustible potential of the Golf” and comes with a redesigned front fascia that is considerably more aggressive in comparison to the one on the regular R model.

VW Golf R Cabriolet Concept

The German engineers fitted the car with a center-mounted dual exhaust system and new aerodynamic side skirts, along with the high performance braking system, a sport-tuned suspension and those cool 19-inch rims you see in the pictures.

We don’t have any photos of the interior but the company says that there are sport seats wrapped around in Nappa leather, carbon fiber accents and a piano black trim.

VW Golf R Cabriolet Concept

Under the hood it has the same engine as the one in the standard AWD Golf R, which is a turbocharged 2.0-liter unit that generates 266 hp (270 PS / 199 kW) and has a peak torque of 258 lb.-ft (350 Nm). It can do the 0-62 mph sprint in “less than 6 seconds”, on its way to a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

Skoda Fabia vRS 2000

During this year’s Worthersee event, Skoda has revealed its Fabia vRS2000, a concept especially developed for this tuning show. The concept is based on the company’s Super 2000 rally car and has been transformed as you can see, into a roadster, which means that this probably is the first open-top rally car in the world in which you can take three of your best friends.

Skoda Fabia vRS 2000

If we compare it to the standard vRS, this concept has significantly wider wheel arches and track, a new hood that sports two vents that cool down the engine, along with updated front and rear bumpers.

We haven’t seen a coupe from Fiat since the Coupe model which was axed back in 2000. If the Italian automaker is thinking of a Dino revival, they could get their inspiration from Peter Norris, a British designer that revealed his vision of a new coupe from Fiat, but most likely not the successor of the Coupe, taking into consideration that it features the Pininfarina badge, which means that it’s not as affordable as the Coupe was.

Anyway, his concept is a front-engine, RWD luxury sports car that has a very sleek profile with an extremely low roofline. It also has big wheel arches while the front fascia reminds us of some Aston Martin models, especially if we take a closer look at those headlights. Out in the back, it has C-shaped taillights and the exhaust pipes have been mounted in the center.

Peter Norris is from Rochester in Kent, United Kingdom and over the years he has worked for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and at Ideaworks 3d, which is a mobile games company. During his 7-years period that he spent at Free Radical Design, he was in charge of creating virtual vehicles for videogames like Star Wars: Battlefront III and Timesplitters 2.

I really like this concept except for the low roofline and those taillights. Other than that, it’s awesome. When we will be seeing a new Fiat Coupe or Dino? Time will tell. Until then all we can do is wait or turn our heads to other manufacturers as there are plenty of cars to choose from in this segment.

Protoscar Lampo3

The Lampo3 is the successor of Protoscar’s other two EV concepts, the Lampo and the Lampo2. This 2+2 coupe has a composite body, a tubular steel chassis and a removable targa roof. The car is powered by three electric motors that generate a combined output of 563 hp (570 PS / 420 kW) and 664 lb.-ft (900 Nm) of torque. One engine is installed on the front axle while the other two sit on the rear axle.

Protoscar Lampo3

The car benefits from an all-wheel drive system and torque vectoring. The company estimates that the Lampo3 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 137 mph (220 km/h). With the batteries full, the EV can be driven for up to 124 miles (200 km). It features a 32 kWh lithium-ion battery that benefits from a BRUSA on-board charger, allowing the vehicle to be charged with basically just about any type of charger out there.

Protoscar Lampo3

Despite the fact that at the moment the Lampo3 is just a one-off concept; the manufacturer is taking into consideration a limited-run production series. There are no information regarding the price tag or when it will be available.

BMW 328 Hommage Concept

The German automaker BMW has revealed its 328 Hommage concept, right before the car’s debut at the upcoming Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este near Lake Como in Italy. This exquisite concept is based on the company’s Vision Connected Drive Concept that we saw during the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show this year. Back in 2008, BMW launched another similar concept, the M1 Hommage.

BMW 328 Hommage Concept

The 328 Hommage is a modern interpretation of the 1930s classic sports car, featuring a lightweight construction thanks to the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic, achieving a curb weight of only 1720 lbs (780 kg). The car is powered by a 6-cylinder 3.0-liter engine but we don’t know how much power it produces.

BMW 328 Hommage Concept

This concept celebrates the 75th anniversary of BMW’s 328 roadster, a model manufactured between 1937 and 1939. The BMW 328 Touring Coupe still holds the record on the Mille Miglia circuit for the highest average speed. That car managed to achieve an average speed of 103 mph and it all happened way back in 1940.

BMW 328 Hommage Concept

The original 328 also featured a lightweight construction as the German engineers used a lot of aluminum and magnesium. As you can see, both models are basically cut from the same cloth to reach a lightweight construction, although the ways to achieving a low curb weight are very different.

Pollution caused by cars has lately been the hot topic for car manufacturers. We have to recognize that they have lately done some efforts to limit their impact on the environment by developing eco-friendly cars or electric vehicles. However, they haven’t made a car that not only protects, but also cleans the air. But finally, someone thought about the idea of creating such a car. For the Michelin Challenge Design competition, Gunwoong Kim and Suji Kim have designed an electric concept car that solves that issue, the Vieria car.

As you can see it in the article’s title, we named this car “the city housewife”: – first, because has a wheel system that can contract and expand slightly, perfect for situation when you want to fit into city’s narrower streets or for rides on rush hours with heavy traffic.

– secondly, because it features a system purifies the air taken in. In specific words, it cleans the dirty air around us, in an innovative way: takes in dirty and dusty air, runs it through a filter beneath its passenger capsule and returns clean, fresh, breathable air.

Our only regret for this car is that it’s just a concept. However, its designers would like to see it unfold in 2021, and we totally hope for that thing to happen. Actually, it will probably be the most extensive joint action for cleaning the polluted air, came from car drivers.

What do you think about this concept car: could this be a dream about to come true?

Mostro Di-Potenza SF22

You probably never heard of Lamborghini’s Indomable concept, to be honest, neither did I. Well, the Pennsylvania-based 215 company has recently acquired the rights to build this concept, which was originally created by Daniel Chinchilla, as part of a design program that was sponsored by the Italian automaker. The production model will be called Mostro Di-Potenza SF2, not very attractive, we know.

Mostro Di-Potenza SF22

Details regarding the specifications of the car are a little bit unclear, but the company stated that it will feature a mid-mounted V8 9.4-liter twin-turbo power unit that will crank out 2,000 hp (2,028 PS / 1,491 kW) and a whopping 2,000 lb.-ft! With a curb weight of only 3,000 lb (1,360 kg) this supercar will be able to do the 0-60 mph sprint in a blazing 2.5 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 265 mph (426 km/h), less than the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which can do 430+ km/h.

Mostro Di-Potenza SF22

Only 50 units will be ever made and production is slated to start in the second part of next year.

Italdesign BMW Nazca M12 Concept

If you are in the market for a very rare and expensive sports car, you might want to take a closer look at this Italdesign BMW Nazca M12 Concept. This car was designed by Giorgetto Giugaro (the same genius that worked on the BMW M1) and only a few were ever made. The Nazca M12 debuted back in 1991 and one year later, the sportier Nazca C2 was launched, and it was followed in 1993 by the open top version, dubbed Spider C2.

Italdesign BMW Nazca M12 Concept

A dealer in Czech Republic has one of these beauties up for sale, based on the body of a Nazca M12 built in 1991, featuring a massive V12 5.7-liter engine that was prepared by Alpina, sourced from the golden days of the 850i.

Ram Long-Hauler Concept

Measuring an almost incredible 24 feet (7.3 meters) long, we completely agree with the Chrysler Group saying that “they don’t get much bigger” than their new Ram Long-Hauler Concept truck. This huge vehicle is based on a Class 5 Ram 5500 Chassis Cab, and sports a stretched wheelbase that measures a whopping 197.4 inches in length and is 79.1 inches tall.

Ram Long-Hauler Concept

As you would expect from a truck that has these dimensions, its weight is also quite astonishing, standing at 9,300 lbs (4,218 kg). Ram affirms that this truck has a maximum Gross Combined Weight Rating of 37,500 lbs (16,783 kg).

Ram Long-Hauler Concept

Under that massive hood is a big 6-cylinder 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel power unit that has a peak torque of 800 lb.-ft, mated to a 6-speed Aisin automatic gearbox. It sports a 4WD transfer case linked to a 4.88 Dana 110 axle with dual rear wheels. To reach your destination, you need a pretty large fuel tank, and luckily, the Long-Hauler has one as Ram fitted the truck with three of them, with a total capacity of 170 gallons.

Ram Long-Hauler Concept

It features a full Kelderman Air Suspension and massive 19.5-inch Alcoa aluminum rims, while the 2+2 interior has a DVD player with an overhead screen for the passengers in the back, along with a rear center console that sports tray tables, cup holders and a refrigerator.

Ram Long-Hauler Concept

Ram said that at the moment, the Long-Hauler remains a concept, but they will show it off across the United States during this year in order “to gauge public opinion”, which means that if it receives a positive feedback, we might see one the next year in our rear view mirror.

BMW Vision EfficientDynamics

It seems that the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics will be a star of the upcoming Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol movie, which will be launched on December 16th this year. A member of the Team-BHP forums managed to grab a spy shot of the concept on the movie’s set.

As a reminder, this concept previews the i8 model which will be launched sometime in 2013. The VED sports an advanced powertrain that uses a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter turbodiesel power unit along with two electric motors, generating 351 hp (356 PS / 262 kW) and 590 lb.-ft (800 Nm) of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, and can hit a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h), while averaging 63 mpg (3.7 liters / 100 km). On electric mode, the car can be driven for up to 31 miles (50 km).
