Dodge –

Here comes the new advertising campaign from Dodge to promote their 2011 Dodge Charger. The slogan is “Never Neutral” and, boy, are the commercials fun! I don’t think that the punch line reveals a whole lot, but they certainly underline that they’ll never color inside the lines. With grey.

Dodge is aiming to promote the new Charger as a driver’s car, the way it’s always been, if you ask me. There’s nothing like a real, hands on driving experience and Dodge knows that. They make a pretty good point with their spots and they also pick in their competitors. We would’ve liked a bit more on screen aggression than a passive aggressive attitude, but I guess it’s a good start.

What do you think about these ads? Hit the jump, watch and enjoy!

According to Dodge, if there will ever be a “snowpocalypse”, you should be behind the wheel of the 2011 Journey, Charger or the Durango thanks to their AWD system that can transform this epic winter weather into mild flurries.

The 2011 edition of the Chicago Auto Show will open its doors on February 9th, lasting until the 20th of the month. Here are some of the most important cars that will be exhibited at this important automotive event.

2011 Audi TT-RS

Audi will be bringing three new production models in the United States: TT-RS, 2012 Audi A6 and the 2012 Audi A7 Sportback. The sexy TT-RS is the most powerful and expensive TT model and will be offered with a 5-cylinder 2.5-liter supercharged power unit that outputs 340 hp. At first, the car will be sold with only a 6-speed manual gearbox. Later on, the German automaker will introduce other transmissions.

The A6 grabbed the EyesOn Design award a couple of weeks ago at the Detroit Auto Show and will feature a V6 3.0-liter supercharged engine which will probably be linked to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The A7 Sportback will be offered with the same engine that churns 333 hp and will be linked to a 7-speed dual-clutch automated-manual gearbox.

2012 BMW 1-Series Convertible

BMW will take to the Chicago Auto Show two of their newest models: the 2012 1-Series and the gorgeous 2012 6-Series. The first one will be available with new styling features that should be popular among American customers. The 128i and the 135i models will carry the 3.0-liter engine which is available in the 3-Series. The 128i will pack 230 hp under its hood while the 135i will be able to output 300 hp. If this isn’t enough, you could get the 1-Series M-coupe which will offer you 335 ponies to play around with.

If you like to drive with the top down, the 6-Series Convertible is the way to go. The car will feature a powerful V8 4.4-liter engine that cranks up 400 hp and is mated to BMW’s 8-speed automatic gearbox.

2012 Buick Verano

For those of you that prefer a car from the domestic market, the 2012 Buick Verano might be what you need. Placed below the Regal, the Verano will feature a 4-cylinder 2.4-liter engine that outputs 177 hp and is linked to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. A couple of months later, the Verano will be available with a 2.0-liter.

2012 Chevrolet Sonic

Aveo is dead, long live the Sonic. Chevrolet will be taking to Chicago their new car which will come with a 1.8-liter engine that produces 135 hp and is mated to either a 5-speed manual (as standard) or with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The car will also be available with a 1.4-liter turbocharged power unit that will be linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox, outputting 138 hp.

2011 Chrysler Town & Country

Being a North American auto show, it is obvious why all of the local automakers will be bringing their latest models. Chrysler will roll out the 200, 300 and the all-new Town & Country models. The first one will be the company’s new mid-size sedan, replacing the now defunct Sebring. As far as the engine choices are concerned, the 200 can be fitted with a 4-cylinder 2.4-liter, mated to a 4-speed / 6-speed automatic gearbox. The high-end 200 model will be equipped with a more powerful V6 3.6-liter that produces 283 hp, linked to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Presented at the Detroit Auto Show, the Chrysler 300 will be shown at Chicago next week. It will be available in three versions, as follows: Touring, Limited and the 300C. The first two versions will pack a V6 3.6-liter engine that produces 292 hp while the 300C will get a massive V8 5.7-liter that is good for 370 hp. The Town & Country will be available with a V6 3.6-liter engine which will be mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The model will be available with the following trim levels: Touring, Touring L and Limited.

2011 Dodge Durango

Dodge will be bringing the Charger, Avenger, Journey and the Durango. The first one will feature two new sets of engines for the SE and R/T models. The SE will pack a V6 3.6-liter power unit that outputs 292 hp while the R/T will get a more powerful 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that will offer 370 ponies. Both of the engines will be linked to a 5-speed automatic gearbox.

The Avenger will be available in four trim levels: Express, Mainstreet, Lux and R/T. The car will have a 4-cylinder 2.4-liter engine that will output 173 hp, fitted with a 4-speed automatic transmission for the Express trim while the Mainstreet and Lux get a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The R/T will benefit from a V6 3.6-liter engine with 283 hp and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The Journey is a crossover/SUV which will be available in a 5-seater or 7-seater configuration. The model will be offered in five different trim levels: Express, Mainstreet, R/T, Crew and Lux. The entry-level Express will get a 4-cylinder 2.4-liter engine that offers 173 hp and will be mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. The rest of the trims will get a V6 3.6-liter that outputs 283 hp, linked to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The Durango will be available in three different trim levels: Express, Crew and Citadel. All of them will benefit from the same power unit, which will be a V6 3.6-liter that produces 290 hp. The customers that choose the Crew or the Citadel trim levels can get a more powerful engine, in the shape of a 5.7 HEMI V8, good for 360 hp. Regardless of the engine, all cars will get a 5-speed automatic gearbox.

2012 Fiat 500

After a couple of years of waiting, Fiat will be delivering the lovely 500 model to the US market. For this reason, they will exhibit the car at the upcoming Chicago Auto Show. The model will be available in three trim levels: Pop, Sport and Lounge. The engine will be a 4-cylinder 1.4-liter that will output 101 hp and will be linked to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Later on, Fiat will launch the 2-door convertible 500C model.

2010 Dodge Viper Final Edition

The Dodge Viper is probably one of the coolest cars in the world with great muscle lines that emphasize the car’s raw power. Design-wise, things could change for the next generation of the Viper as Ralph Gilles, who is Chrysler’s and Dodge’s head of design said that the new look of the Snake will be inspired by “a naked woman on the beach”.

This rather surprising announcement was made while Gilles was speaking to a couple of reporters at the Automotive News World Conference and although this was the most important thing that he said, he also said that the upcoming generation of the Dodge Viper will be targeted to steal away buyers from both the Chevrolet Corvette and the Porsche brand.

The next generation of the Viper will be launched in 2013 which should give Dodge engineers plenty of time to come up with a great car, but they have to deliver something great as we are certain that both Chevrolet and Porsche are working on something just as good to match the new Viper.

Regardless to say, in the next couple of years we will have some fierce competition in the sports car segment, taking into consideration the fact that there are many automakers out there that in the last few years have delivered some great cars.

Hurst Hemi Challenger Series 5

The Challenger is considered by many as one of the greatest muscle cars in the world, but what does it happen to it if it gets the Hurst treatment? Simple, it gets better. The standard version itself is a true-core muscle car, but by making it even meaner, louder and lower, the result is simply outstanding.

The primary target of the Hurst Challenger is to keep the philosophy of the original car and instead of messing it up; they enhanced the car’s gentleman hotrod core. The pre-production model had a rear spoiler that stuck up similar to a duck’s tail. Luckily, this isn’t a problem anymore as the retail version simply extends back flat from the Challenger’s decklid. In addition, the “Hurst” badge is now history. The car is fitted with massive 20-inch wheels covered by BFG KDW tires, which give the car a very masculine look.

Hurst Hemi Challenger Series 5

Both the white and black versions are equipped with a very powerful 527 hp HEMI engine that has a massive torque of 528 lb-ft. Fitted with an automatic gearbox you simply just have to get in the car, start it and push the pedal to the medal for the ride of your life. Of course, this car was not designed for your daily commute; you would be better off with a BMW 5-Series or other similar cars. The centrifugal Vortex supercharger kicks in similar to a traditional turbo and adds more boost in a progressive matter – the more power you need, the more it will give you, simple as that.

If you leave the driving aids on while you start off in first gear, you will get very accustomed to the traction control lights, if you know what I mean. For pure fun and excitement, turn off all the driving aids and enjoy the raw power of this monster., but be careful as the level of power this has to offer is out of this world.  As far as the suspension is concerned, the Hurst Hemi Challenger Series 5 comes with a high-performance Eibach kit which is fully capable of keeping the vehicle’s weight and mass in check, maintaining it even through turns and steady for those side-to-side inputs.

Hurst Hemi Challenger Series 5

It would be a very bad move to consider this a sports car as it isn’t. Although it is a highly tuned car it still is a proper “Challenger”, which should be able to tell you about the purpose of it and what it is capable of doing. Think of this Hurst Challenger as a toned-down Dodge Viper that has rear seats and a decent trunk, without losing any of the performance of the legendary car. This is the ultimate gentleman’s hot rod and one of the most frightening cars that were ever produced in the US of A.

1964 Dodge Hemi Charger Concept Car

The picture you see right in front of you is of the first Dodge that used the Charger nameplate, a living legend in our opinion. The car we are talking about is a 1964 Dodge Charger Concept Car. It was developed back in 1963 on Polara underpinnings and it was used by Chrysler to introduce its newest engine at that time, the now popular and legendary 7.0-liter (426-cubic inch) Hemi V8.

Over its 47-year existence, it was owned by several collectors and now it is going to be put up for auction at the 2011 Automobiles of Arizona event which will be organized at Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa, on January 20th. Although RM Auction didn’t publish any official estimates, the same car was auctioned three years ago and managed to fetch $1.1 million. We assume that the car is now worth even more than that.

The car is at the moment in the estate of the now late John M. Quinn and it has been fully restored by Fran Roxas, a multiple award-winner, who fitted the car with one of the 15th original race HEMI power units that outputs 600 hp.

1964 Dodge Hemi Charger Concept Car

Looking at the specifications sheet, the very first Charger was fitted with a 3-speed automatic gearbox, independent torsion bar front and rear semi-elliptic leaf spring suspension. In addition, it features a 4.56:1 “Sure Grip” rear axle and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. The block casting of the 1964 Dodge Hemi Charger Concept Car is dated October 1963 which goes to show that this car is as authentic as it can get.

If you take a closer look at the pictures, you will notice that the car is in perfect condition and it has been kept in a climate-controlled storage. Basically, it looks as if it just rolled out of the production line. If I had the money to buy it, I wouldn’t hesitate and choose this over any type of modern vehicle that costs the same as in my opinion, cars like this one will never be made again and it is indeed a great shame, but there is nothing that we can do.

2011 Dodge Nitro

The Dodge Nitro is back for the 2011 model with the new Heat 4.0 lifestyle package that joins the already launched Detonator, Shock and Heat models which were introduced in 2010. The Heat 4.0 is offered with a 5-speed automatic gearbox and an updated 8-speaker sound system. The car is fitted with the new all-aluminum V6 power unit that is capable of producing 260 hp (194 kW) and 265 lb.-ft (359 Nm) of torque.

The Heat model is offered with 20-inch aluminum rims, performance suspension, sunscreen glass and body color grille with bright billets. The car is equipped with a 3.7-liter V6 engine that outputs 210 hp and 235 lb.-ft of torque. The Detonator is 23 hp more powerful and offers 12% more torque in comparison with the Nitro and shares its powertrain with the Heat 4.0. The car rolls on 20-inch polished aluminum rims, Parksense Rear Park assist system, remote start and nine premium speakers with subwoofer.

The Nitro Shock comes with new polished 20-inch aluminum premium-painted wheels, sunroof, heated leather seats, along with the powerful 4.0-liter overhead cam  V6 engine linked to the 5-speed automatic gearbox. The car is equipped with the same Parksense rear park assist system, remote start and the modern nine speakers with subwoofer sound system.

2011 Dodge Nitro

All of the 2011 Dodge Nitro models are fitted as standard with 20-inch wheels and have monochromatic interiors. The new colors available for the car include: Two Coat Pearl, Toxic Orange, Blackberry Pearl Coat and Bright White Clear Coat. The Shock and the Detonator models have hood/fender racing stripes and 20-inch rims.

The 2010 Dodge Nitro model does 16 mpg on the city and 22 mpg on the highway so the 2011 models should be slightly better in other to compete with other rivals from this segment. With the standard power unit, the Nitro needs 9.5 seconds to do the 0-60 mph sprint. Some of the most important pros of the car are the price tag, stylish looks and the decent towing capacity. In addition, the car offers very comfortable seats, lots of headroom and for the legs.

On the other side, there are other feature-packed crossover SUVs available on the market today, making the Nitro a tough sell in our opinion. The biggest downside of the Nitro is the limited power available and customers will most likely choose other lighter, responsive cars that pack more power under the hood.

The manufacturer suggested retail price starts at $22,245 for the base model and goes up to $28,995 for the top of the line model. Invoice is $21,652 – $27,975.

2011 Dodge Journey

In the last few months, Chrysler has brought many improvements and updates for the vast majority of their models and the Journey was not left out of the deal. Along with the 2011 Dodge Durango and the Dodge Charger, the Journey brings for 2011 a new look, significantly more power, a much updated interior look and decent fuel economy. According to the people at that had the chance of taking the car for a quick spin, it has one of the most generous and fast touch screen ever installed on an automobile before.

We all know that with their recent models, Chryslers has managed to greatly improve the materials that are used inside the cabin and it should come as no surprise that the Journey is benefiting from this trend. This is not the most important update brought to the car in comparison with the previous generation, as the engineers at Dodge spent a lot of time tweaking the driving character of the car. With these changes brought to the car, the Journey morphed from a car that was never seen as a potential competitor, into one that is worth taking into consideration when picking out a brand new crossover.

These significant changes were not applied to the exterior look of the car, Dodge wanted to keep the original look and improve things here and there, giving a more fresh and updated look to the Journey. Up front you will notice the redesigned fascia, the freshened corporate split-crosshair grille and the massive 19-inch rims. In the back the car got LED taillights and that’s about it, no other changes in comparison with the 2010 version of the Journey.

Once you get inside, you will notice the huge difference. Instead of offering new shades of the boring gray plastic, people over at Dodge managed to add new more exciting colors that give the car a new look as far as the cabin is concerned. Similar to other cars manufactured by the Dodge, the Journey benefits from the implementation of the single-piece, soft touch instrument panels. By eliminating the multi-piece dashboards that we are all accustomed to, Dodge managed to avoid the likelihood of rattles and squeaks and at the same time, reduced the possibility that during assembly, something might be done wrong. The nice to poke soft-touch material used for the cabin allowed the Dodge designers to throw in 0-milimiter tolerances for HVAC bezels.

We mentioned the big touch screen; it has a generous 8.5-inch diagonal (optional) that draws all the attention inside the large cabin of the Journey. The screen not only is very responsive and quick, but it also offers crystal-clear graphics. Changing the radio stations is done very easy without any hassle, and you don’t have to wait between two stations, we all know how annoying that could get.

2011 Dodge Journey

Moving on to more important business, the engine of the 2011 Dodge Journey is the new generation V6 3.6-liter Pentastar that is capable of outputting 283 hp at 6,350 rpm. Torque figures are 260 pound-feet at 4,400 rpm. In comparison to the previous generation of the engine, the car is now 20% more powerful which makes it very agile than ever before. The engine is linked to a comfortable smart-swapping 6-speed automatic gearbox, which will not give you any trouble in traffic. The Mexico-built 2011 Dodge Journey is available with a four wheel drive and it will do a decent 17 mpg city / 25 mpg highway. For those of you that cannot afford the Pentastar V6 3.6-liter engine, Dodge is offering a smaller 2.4-liter that outputs 173 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 166 pound-feet @ 4,000 rpm which is linked to an outdated 4-speed automatic gearbox, making the car quite slow, taking into consideration the weight of the 7-seater.

Of course the Pentastar engine is agile, but nobody can say that it is fast. However, thanks to the fact that it has a quicker-ratio steering rack, along with a host of bushings and stiffer springs, the 2011 Dodge Journey is quite capable of taking corners, despite its weight and size.

The base model for the 2011 Dodge Journey, dubbed Express, will cost you $22,245 but it will come with the outdated engine and transmission that don’t live up to the expectations of a 2011 model. For $2,000 more, you can get the Journey Mainstreet which will come with the powerful Pentastar engine. In addition to this price, you will have to pay a $750 worth of destination charge, regardless of the model you want.

Dodge managed to surprise many people with the launch of the 2011 Journey, which although does not offer many improvements as far as the exterior look is concerned, it brings many updates for the materials used inside the cabin, plus the V6 3.6-liter Pentastar power unit that gives the Journey a brand new life, leaving behind the rusted and outdated image of the outgoing generation that nobody took into consideration as a crossover choice.
